Well. She's stacked.

And she does look a bit...I dunno. The other characters have a degree of realism. Her proportions and features are verging on caricature. Compared to Fenris, she doesn't look like the same type of elf.

This much I agree with. Potentially, they could be different races.

13 years old? That's just ludicrous. At least 20. On the right picture she looks 35.

No the one of the right looks 20-25. What planet are you from? There's not a wrinkle on her and her face is in proportion for an adult. In the new design the size of her head next to her body screams young teenager.

She could be in her 20s. She looks young and petite... but there are women who naturally look that way.

Yep, I beg to differ. Because my Mahariel's facial features are actually all in place...unlike the ones of Merril. She looks like as if someone has played with the toolset sliders for the lulz to make her look like a deformed rat. :pinched:

Wow.. So much hostility towards an imaginary character
.. I swear, some people are freakin weirdos..
We only saw one angle of her so far. I mean when I first saw Isabella I thought she was hideous, but now she's actually pretty attractive looking(still wont romance her but whatever). But maybe you should wait a little longer before calling her a deformed rat.
I mean she looks fine to me now, and if you don't like her later one thats fine as well. Not everyone likes the same things..

Not really.

You know I should be squeeing over the fact of having a Dalish companion, being the Dalish nerd that I am. The thing is...I'm not :? I blame that totally to that kind of design. She simply looks hideous to me. Period. If this is the new design for elves overall, then I'll have a hard time to take them seriously anymore...especially compared to how Dalish elves were portrayed in Origins. CUTE the last thing Dalish elves need to be. Seriously. Aside the fact that I find that design as far away from cute as possible, of course.

Though like you said; Not everyone likes the same things. I for myself like to see Dalish elves as the fierce and unrelenting warriors of the forest they were in Origins and not as doll-faced 12 years old laughing stocks. Thank you very much. :wizard:

What did they do to her EARS??!??!!!!!!

Seriously - fix that, please?

Those are DA2 elf ears. I hated that ear design in WarCraft, I hated it the moment they revealed their Thedosian races redesigns, I hate it still, I'll always hate it. Them being not quite as humungous as in WC doesn't change that.

@Herr Uhl Ugh, I'm about to revoke my own Dalish fan card. At the coronation, it's your foster mother Ashalle that shows up, not Keeper Marethari. >.> Keeper Marethari is there for the funeral though, I was correct on that. In any case, it is the player's own clan that is there for coronation/funeral, so I hope that is accounted for! And I'm still holding my breath that the boon isn't discounted!

ETA:  In fact, I'm hoping that I'm not hoping too hard when I note that the fact that one of the "pre-done" background settings that can be chosen is a Dalish US ending might possibly mean that things can change depending on if the Dalish origin is the one that is imported. *hopeshopeshopeshopeshopes*  As long as it's acknowledged and handled, I'll be very content with that!

On closer inspection, other than the tiny thing on her chin, not even her tattoos are anywhere near the same.

I can get and accept that you don't like her looks I honestly can.
But what does being a "doll faced 12 year old" (as you so eloquently put it) have to do with being a fierce warrior? To me this is no different than when a guy talks about how being a female warrior is a ridiculous concept. And we all know thats bull****.

She looks late teens early 20s to me. And I think there is a clear resemblance to her DAO version, more than Isabella in fact. She looks like the DAO version with her ears changed and her facial structure morphed.

I thought the presentation was fairly appropriate.  I think the Dalish see themselves as fierce warriors and have an oral history that may or may not be accurate, but in the larger scheme of things--from the outside looking in--they're pretty insignificant and not all that frightening.  They are allowed to live in lands that other people don't want.  The glory has faded.

Loghain was scared of them.  If this is what Loghain was scared of, I'm taking the signature down now.  LOL

If you're referring to TST, that's because they were two lightly armed men deep in their territory.  The deck was as heavily stacked against him as it could be (more than if he had been alone, even).

Right, and now I have an image of Lilliputians with goat ears climbing all over a tied-down Maric and Loghain.  At least good for a laugh.

As for those saying not to judge on appearances, sure, although it's also a matter of everyone- including the writers- reacting to her character in the manner of ohhh I'm gonna put the little elfsy welfsy into my pocketses.  Not to mention that the established lore of human men being attracted to elven females just got a whole lot creepier.

Clearly, I have not read enough anime to be able to appreciate the new direction for DA elves.

She honestly looks like she belongs in another game with a different aesthetic. Legend of Zelda comes to mind. Maybe its that smile.

"Oooooh wook at you, you are sooo cute! I wuv my wittle elves!"

Yeah, Fenris has the larger ears but his facial features seem to be intact. Whereas Merrill looks...odd.

That was my initial reaction too- her design doesn't look like it would fit in with everything else they had done with DA. It just seems really out of place.

I'm an anime/manga fan and I don't like the way Merrill looks either (but I like the design overhaul in general, there's just something off about her).

Just curious, since people are saying she looks 14. How old do you think the kids in DAO are?

I like her new look since for myself I always felt the elves should look less like a normal human. While still being heavily humanoid and I would say fairly close to DA:O elves there are elements that make her appearance slightly different. Just enough to make me appreciate them being an actual different race and not just shorter humans with pointy ears. Hell, I would go a little bit further give her the black eyes from the concept storyboard elf.

GOAT EARS!!!!! YES!!! That's what they remind me of!!!!!!!

I'm sorry - I can't get past that.  It's like some horrid mutation, or a genetic experiment gone wrong.

Count me in the "haven't read enough anime" crowd.  Those things are a joke.

At least at the University of Toronto, it isn't uncommon to see a girl that looks like her attending classes, and we're all at least 18. Americans just look... older to me on average. Bigger, too.

That sounds a little exciting, yet I am a little nervous because the voice actress from DA:Origins did a good job as well. But from the quote it sounds like the voice actress will be full of surprises

so merrill is a confirmed, permanent companion of hawkes gang?

if the german mag was right....her spec will be similar to a blood mage! awesome.

but seriously she is a companion just like the others...yes?
