If you leave that beach and continue walking everywhere, every day without shoes, yes. Well, not dorky since I don't see how dorky = not wearing shoes, but kinda crazy. Stuff hurts.

Stuff does indeed hurt. However eventually the cuts and blisters fade away and the skin surface that is being hurt daily adapts and forms callouses upon that skin so that it stops hurting.

100,000 years ago our ancestors didn't have any shoes and instead had to rely on their skin to adapt to the situation at hand so that they could function properly. It's only "crazy" now when everyone can get a cheap set of shoes for any and all occasions, and were we ultimately value having smooth skin rather then calloused skin.

I wander if they have Nikes in Thedas.

Why biased?  I love the Dalish.  I don't want Merrill to look
weird.  She just... looks strange.  Her head is too big for her body,
her eyes are too big for her head, she's deathly pale, and someone even
said she looks like she has claws for creators' sake.

As I said, you're comparing the "normal" looking Dalish Merill to the non-normal looking elf Fenris. Subjective I know, but I wouldn't consider lyrium-tattoos to be normal among elves.

Right, because where would a society based on hunting get the materials for shoes?  <_<

I think it should be pretty obvious from what I said that what I'm looking at is bone structure, stature, and facial features.  Merrill has tattoos, as well, when it comes to that.  But that's not what I'm talking about.

Sure, that's why I am advocating for rough, grody feet textures for elves. Team cracked calloused feet that would make the most professional pedicurist cry! There are also a wide variety of environments here that our ancestors back then didn't have to deal with. I wouldn't want to walk around my neighborhood in NYC without any cover on my feet. As it stands their feet look as delicate as ever. It like, totally breaks my immersion or something.

:P

I eagerly await an actual introduction of Merrill

Will there even be one?:P If Seb hadn't confirmed she was a companion we wouldn't even know that.
You sure are taking your time giving us info about characters and enemys we already know about.

Elves must have really rough feet.

Hawke will have to regularly massage her feet with natural moisturizing oils in order to complete her romance. It will be a QTE minigame.

Unlikely, but I'm positive they have broken glass. Yikes. Poor elves.

Who says elves want to wear shoes to begin with? You're assuming elves do, but you're human with human thought patterns.

I think it should be pretty obvious that your nitpicking and that I could say that in turn Merill has better bone structure, stature, and facial features. But that would be biased of me wouldn't it? You have no proof to say that Fenris looks better then Merill aside from the fact that you think he looks better. Especially when Fenris is abnormal in comparison to Merill (if you were to use Merill as a base-line for the looks of all of the normal Dalish elves.)

There are special potions you can cover the bottom of your feet with... That helps "toughening " the skin also.

In India, Fakirs (those weird guys that walk on hot coals and think thats cool) have done that for centuries.... :wizard:

Indeed, a good point.

Which brings me to another, are we sure that Merill and Fenris are the rule and not the exception to the rule? How many Dalish elves have we seen so far?

Actually, after all the people making a fuss we immediately ran and shrank down her breasts. We were just listening to you guys. Honest. Posted Image

I wonder how many hours of productivity were lost to the "Breast" settings in the toolset.

Zola Budd and many african runners used to run marathons barefooted. People do go barefoot 12 months of the year in parts of the world and even in some colder climbs. Good thing we got the huge knockers bit out of the way so half the board can bray about the next small detail that just is horrible.

Nit pickers!

There's a trick to that that has little to do with their ability to withstand heat. As I understand it (feel free to fill me in on other ways), it's done in two ways. The first is that the coal is allowed to burn long enough for a layer of ash to sit on top. It should be cool out to do this. The second is to have to have a layer of water in between their feet and the coals, say, by stepping on wet grass first. The coals are also always a certain tempature.

Similarly, those people who lay down on a bed of nails aren't doing something incredibly impossible. They're simply distributing their weight across the entire thing.

Has to do with both the short amount of time the feet are actually in contact with the coals and the fact that the human body is mostly water, which has an enormous heat capacity.

Yes'm. Take light, quick steps. Storming through it will make your feet dig in, and burn you. But no one would light firey hot coals without these precautions and walk over them without getting severely burned. I'm not sure if it's humanely possible for human skin to get naturally so tough as to withstand walking over 1000°F coals without.

Lol, no one is saying it can't be done. Just that it's kind of silly to not wear shoes when you have them available to you. There are a lot of risks associated with walking barefoot everywhere, especially in urban areas, and your feet aren't gonna look all soft and pretty. Whatever, it's not a big deal, just a silly design choice that makes me laugh. If there's suddenly a lore reason and magic feet poultices, I will lol forever.

Foot poultice?  Items exclusive to Elven party members that are their only method of restoring stamina.  Crafted from Elfroot, Flasks, and Odor Eaters. :P:bandit:

Some elves apparently don't like shoes.

Really, if this is where it breaks down for someone, I'd have to giggle. I suspect you all just don't have enough to talk about. ;)

Doesn’t break it down for me. I love Merrill, I think she is adorable. Fenris is a very handsome character and I am sure that their bare feet won’t disrupt, break immersion, or factor into any game play enjoyment for me, in fact, I can guarantee it. It’s a purely personal thing for me. It’s just…you know. Dirty feet! Posted Image
