Lol, no one is saying it can't be done. Just that it's kind of silly to not wear shoes when you have them available to you. There are a lot of risks associated with walking barefoot everywhere, especially in urban areas, and your feet aren't gonna look all soft and pretty. Whatever, it's not a big deal, just a silly design choice that makes me laugh. If there's suddenly a lore reason and magic feet poultices, I will lol forever.
Some elves apparently don't like shoes.
Really, if this is where it breaks down for someone, I'd have to giggle. I suspect you all just don't have enough to talk about.
Naturally, my next question is: Can I have a barefoot Hawke? Can I have a nasty foot texture? Lol.
It doesn't make anything break down for me, hence why I said that I find it amusing. Like "Hah, they're not wearing shoes wtf" and not "They're not wearing shoes RAEG! 'TIS AN IMMERSION BREAKER BIOWAREEEE I DEMAND THEY WEAR ACCURATE 14th CENTURY GARB NOW."
You should really send more info our way so we can stop talking about this stuff. All this is stuff I wouldn't have paid attention to if we had more to to talk about :innocent:

How often do people while wearing shoes walk on glass, nails etc? You see bad stuff to walk on and you avoid it. Also people that go ewwww bare feet. Take a cotton swap of inside your fav set of sneakers, shoes or bunny slippers and rub it on a petri dish, then walk barefoot for a while and swab your feet. You might be in for a nasty surprise when you compare the results.
Bah i know :?I've heard some doctor on the tv once stating that's healthier to walk barefoot (mostly on grass as i've already said) because the shoes and socks keep moisture and it's a perfect place for bacteria and fungi. That's why some people have ill nails, because they wore shoes not because they ran around barefoot. And i guess that if you would walk daily like that, the skin would get thinker and you won't get cuts and bruises that easily.
But i'm offtopic. In any way, i don't really mind this change and i love that the elves are more unique, but we need moar info poriung in

Well, I guess that depends on where you’d walk around bare foot, doesn’t it?
Anyway, I wasn’t making an argument about whether she should or should not be bare foot. Artistic move, or lore move, or whatever, I am okay with it. I was simply making an observation based on a thing I have about dirty feet. Reading anything more into than that is not necessary.

Well, a triviality can still be ridiculous, and I have to agree with yukidama that this would appear to qualify. If this sort of design decision is a consequence of a singular companion outfit than I would score one for the opposition (Companion specific clothing is fine by me, but the idea that the choice was between complete variation and a single outfit always struck me as an obviously false dichotomy. Design multiple outfits per character (I'm aware that it was in all likelihood a resource decision, especially as it pertains to cinematics, but that was not the reasoning put forward)). By placing the onus for clothing selection on the developers, the implementations put forth would seem to be more fairly open to criticism.David Gaider wrote...

C'mon Mister Fish, I feel as if you and I are normally on the same page. Follow that reasoning too far and we'll all be abandoning our "unnecessary" footwear. I do quite a bit of camping, canoeing, backpacking and I am saddened to inform you that there are sticks in forests, rocks in rivers, and that even walking barefoot on gravel is far from enjoyable. I've found shoes to be an impressive technological breakthrough in the prevention of stubbed toes, gashed feet and (potentially more vitally) snake-bites for example. Their development would seem a worthwhile investment for any enterprising society.Beerfish wrote...

Aside from being unpleasant, I disagree with the sentiment. Personal preferences are certainly important in the aggregate, and even solitary expressions can be useful, especially when an attempt is made to articulate the reasoning behind them, a threshold I felt Addai67 more than met. You may disagree with the opinion, but an explanation as to why would seem far more relevant than merely belittling it as such.congealeddgtllvr wrote...

I'm hoping that something gets mentioned in-game when it comes to Merrill's past with the blighted mirror. I wonder if playing a Dalish warden will cause anything to be different if you import.
I'm also loving the Merrill and the small amount we know so far. I remember when I played the Dalish origin in DA:O, I wasn't particularly impressed with her. I thought she was annoying because she wouldn't let the other elf come to the cave with us unless I asked the keeper first! Evil Merrill!! >_>
