Maybe that because male elves (NPCs) in DAO were pretty androgynous and no looking too human already. While female elves looked like starving human females with a small eyes, gaunt face and strange ears. And I have always found that it is far easier for me to create decent(for my tastes, some would say that they are too feminine) looking male elf than a female one. 

So the change in male elves not so striking as a female one.

Maybe that's why elves are so slender, so that their body doesn't exert too much pressure on their feet, so that they can hop around like sparrows ! I guess since Elves have such a bound to nature, they can sense the quality of the ground they walk on and slither their way around small obstacles instinctively !
