Holy. There are girls in my classes who look like they are 12. I'm in Canada as well (not that that makes a difference)


But in my opinion, left looka 17-18, right looks early 20s.
We'll probablly change a lot of our opinions when more official pics come out showing her in different lighting and angles.

For all we know that's how a 30yr old elf just looks in the DA universe da (not saying she's 30 here, but you should get the idea)? Can't really judge a cat so well using a book on hamsters (see, stop applying human concepts of age/looks to non-humans).

Count me in the "haven't read enough anime" crowd.  Those things are a joke.

Don't forget the freakishly large eyes and odd facial structure.  Assuming all the Dalish are going to look this way, it represents quite a retcon of our PCs.



I'm hoping this is an early shot and she's going to look better.  Also, cringing at the thought of what the males are going to look like.  At least Fenris looks better in comparison... and Isabela, knockers hanging out and all.  Trying to find the silver lining here.

I don't see how blind approval is any better or worse than blind mocking.

We know little about all of these characters and will know nothing more till likely DA:2 comes out.

And well, you only get one chance to make a first impression. . .then you gotta build from there if it wasn't good.

Heck, I'll probably be using her in my game, you always tend to get one mage with an awful personality (in my opinion) based on DA:O. . .and BG, and I doubt she's going to be angsty or evil, so I am betting on the next mage to be that.

As an LI, I'd say the silver lining is how Isabella's jaw has improved.

I can't get past the ears- I mean, I saw the rack (you can see it from orbit, after all) but then I saw the ears . . .can't get past them.  At all.

BTW, that's not DAO Merrill on the right there, is it?  Because, ummm . . that's a good looking elf!!!  Will make me even more upset!!!!!

I don't wanna be a bummer but I just felt like pointing out that this is the Merrill "appreciation" thread. It's cool for people to have different opinions and all but the whole board pretty much goes viral with derogatory comments whenever a female character is announced, and although I'm not the OP, I'm pretty sure that's the reason behind "appreciation" threads is the hope to keep negativity away.

It's generally the same thing at my college down here in California. I've come across several young women who look like they never hit puberty, in spite of being more than old enough to start drinking legally. Genetics can be weird like that at times. Hell, Merril looks OLDER than most of them did now that I think about it.

And to be honest here in England at the University of Derby, I can't say I've ever seen a lass that looks like that.

Artistically, from what I've learned over the years the proportions of the model of what I see in the screenshots posted on here, (I haven't read the dev diary etc) are what you'd use to represent an adolescent not an adult the facial shape and structure matches a teenage look and the eyes still have partial dominance in the features, or basicaly they take up more room on the face than they do on most adults.

Sure stylisation or whatever might be the cause hell it could be from her being an elf instead of a human and so such rules don't apply, the problem with that is that it means squat. Elves don't exist, all basis for thinking of how something looks age wise would come from comparison against the human equivalent so essentially if elf A looks like a pre 18 human then elf A is considered pre 18.

Besides from DAO she should be in her mid to late 20's in DA2, but she's even younger than when you first met her... limitation of the old system perhaps? I don't know bit odd though.
