Link me to one serious post in the Varric thread where someone demanded Varric be innocent, a virgin or bear Hawke many children. The least people want in the Varric thread is a romance option.

I hate to admit it to you all, but the reason why I am so eager to meet Merrill is because she is the cutest of all the female companions we have seen so far. Bethany is out, so she doesn't count.

I know, I am shallow, but we have little to go on. My views may change depending on Merrill's personality and actions.

I imagine discussion revolving around wishes to make Varric bear many children for the PC could get quite interesting. If probably too graphic for my sensitive and refined tastes.

I don't want Varric to be a rogue, it ruins my image of him as pure, innocent and virginal. Therefore, I will block all his rogue skills and force him to stay home and bear my children.

Most of the thread is not sexual. There are a few posters who find the concept of a pure elven virgin desirable as a love interest for whatever reason.

Personally, I find Isabela more attractive and feel more protective than anything towards Merrill. I am interested in what Mary will do with the character as I found Sten and Loghain fairly complex as party members.

Loved Sten and Loghain *points at avatar* as well, so I'm interested. I'd even say Loghain is my favorite of the companions and we only get him for a good hour or two if you did everything up to that point.

We barely know anything about the other characters as well, I don't see people defending that Aveline (or others) be virgins / innocent and pure.

Singling out any particular thread would not only be unfair, it would be inaccurate - and just because I happen to be posting in this one now does not mean the message is only meant for this thread. I'm not gonna speak for Dave or anyone else, but I'd enjoy this forum in general a lot more without the thinly veiled sex fantasies and innuendo around fictional characters.

That being said, the Varric thread is so overtly tongue-in-cheek in character that it boggles my mind whenever it's brought up as a counter-example in these discussions.

You don't have anything else to talk about so the rational conclusion is to talk about her virginity?

Because virginity connotes a sense of innocence. Characters who lack a knowledge of evil in the world tend to have a certain charm - much like how children have a charm that is rarely seen in adults. It's cute.

Though I don't demand that Merrill be a virgin though - as long as she conveys a sense of youthfulness and innocence. I do hope to see her mature and grow in the game, though, and eventually outgrow this "innocence".

We think alike although Loghain couldn't pip Sten at the top of my 'favourite companion' list. And to be fair I think Anders is second. Loghain really surprised me when I finally got him though, made me wish we got him sooner in the vanilla game.

I love the direction they have gone in for Merrill I must admit, I was actually against her being one of the companions when it was brought up ages ago but I should have known the team would find an interesting direction to take her character (seemingly).

It does sometimes seem that the Merrill and Fenris threads have the most posters interested in romance to some degree, but I don't post in or view either of them enough to say that with any certainty - just how it seems when I have a look. That said the Varric thread doesn't do badly LI talk-wise, considering how convinced some are that he isn't one, but even then it always seems a little different in tone.

Why not just stay out of the character fan threads if that kinda thing bugs you though. Seems kinda counter intuitive.

That is rediculous. Of coarse Aveline is a virgin. I mean it's not like she was married or anything. Jeez.

But I can totally see where people are coming from.
