Witch Hunt DLC mentions dog contributed valiantly to re-populating Denerim mabari population after the Blight. He's no virgin, ser, not in the least.

What we DO know is that damn, we can totally bang that pirate chick and the virginal-elf-next-door, not Varric sadly but the bishie elf for sure! It seems harsh to have a go at someone and say 'just ignore the sex stuff' when the sex stuff is such a huge amount of the info we've received so far.

I agree that it's difficult when all you know is that they're cute, elven, and cast blood magic. Oh, and they appeared for one second in a video while Jennifer was chatting about virginal love interests.

I doubt the audio and visual link was incidental but okay. And her looking like a 15 year old anime is all in my head too.

If you want us to judge her on different terms, and I assume you do, then we need something to go on. Otherwise it looks like you are just catering to the lowest common denominator (lonely nerds/sex).

Correct me if im wrong but i thought the Dalish openly practice Blood Magic.

During the Nature of The Beast we were told that Zathrian used his blood create the werewolf curse and thats how he gained his immortality.

So i wouldnt be suprised if Merill knows something about Blood magic, shes the Marethari's apprentice after all.

I think we shouldn't jump to conclusion that a Blood Mage has to be someone like Avernus or something.

Bloodmagic is just a form of magic.

During the night before the final battle the warden may ask Morrigan if the dark ritual is Blood Magic. To which she simply answer along the line of Blood Magic is but a name but you might call it that.

Finn also uses Blood Magic when you re looking for the light of Arlathan in Cadash Thaig. The elf refugees only allow those from the Arlathan bloodlines to see the light, so the magic involved in hiding it must contain some trace of Blood Magic.

Blood Magic being evil is an arbitary concept that the Chantry put in place. Since the dalish keepers operates outside of the chantry they probably have their own rules regarding the use of magic.

So yea for those who care, imho Merill using Blood Magic has nothing to do with her being non-innocent whatsoever.

Y'know, Merrill never struck me as a completely pure and innocent/naive to the world person in Origins either. She seemed confident with a fair chunk of attitude and edge to her character. Certainly you don't get to spend long with her in Origins but I was quite surprised when I saw the apparent focus on her innocence and cute appearance etc.

With that said I'm interested in seeing how Bioware combine the self confident keeper side of her character with the cute Elf girl vibe that people seem to be getting. I'm hoping for something along the lines of a more sane River Tam myself.

*Hawke going down rivalry path with Merrill*

"Varric, babysit the Dalish while we check out this ruin would ya?"

*Merrill narrows her eyes* "I could kill you with my brain."

If it's rivalry path then i'd rather expect:

Hawke: Yes, i've heard vacuum can be lethal.

Agreed. And I don't see how she could be innocent or naive in the way some people seem to want. She's an adult in a leadership position who juggles the risks associated with being a mage. To me that makes for a pretty grounded person.

Also "cute" to these writers is... different. I think. Cute might mean that she's the kind of person who would examine a dead bird because it has pretty colors and overlook that it's dead. And shove it in people's faces going LOOK HOW PRETTY :D Though that's just my preferences talking.

Well, now that has been mentioned, Merrill could be a cross between Misson Vao from KOTOR and Jack from ME - cute, innocent on the outside, but crazy on the inside.

Still, there's not much to go on. I think, that if the developers can call her "virginal", she must have a playful side to her. Kind of like an evil little girl, maybe.

If 'virginal' is in fact attributed to Merrill, I wonder if it might have anything to do with the Dalish courtship process that Cammen and Gheyna were in the middle of. Some lost-in-translation with gift-giving and intent between Dalish courtship and Ferelden... um... whatever they do, might be funny :D

You know, a possible analogue to Merrill could be Hitgirl from the movie/comic book Kickass.

Not really a personality, more like traits that she and Hitgirl share.

Why not just stay out of the character fan threads if that kinda thing bugs you though. Seems kinda counter intuitive.

Did you genuinely just type this post without thinking how it applies to you and the BSN at large?

Pretty much because well I enjoy pissing off the fanboys to be honest. It's almost like a hobby at this point. When it comes to character related fan threads though, you know the sort of posts those make, so I dunno why subject yourself to it if it bothers you so much.

Is it like posting references to HomeWatch in the Playstation Home forums just to watch the flames be fanned? [Not that I've ever done that! I try to be the sweet lad I am. :innocent:]

To be honest, I was surprised to see you post in the Merrill thread. I almost thought you were here to post something nice about her too, despite also not knowing much...

Hey guys, I just finished a quick "fan sketch" of Merrill + Hawke. Enjoy... and flame me all you want. I know I might be breaking some sort of code here, by posting two-bit fan fiction before the game is even released!

Nothing wrong with that. Some secrecy really goes a long way.

Good luck! And nice to see you noted the ages. Origins did have a habit of leaving those out with a majority of the characters, but then again, if the writers did post those, the fans would be going "WHEN'S THEIR BIRTHDAYS?!! WE MUST KNOW!!!!"

Anyway, you took a gamble and it worked out for the better at least in such a small context. It might spark one of those wierder discussions on what age is necessarily adulthood in Thedas but that is a totally different story.
