Well if we compare the Chantry to the Catholic church for example, we could associate the Urn with the Torino shrug. They would benefit from it being real, but what if they retrive it and it proves to be fake?

I assume you mean "what if you proved they don't have healing powers." It's a moot point. Even if you removed the Urn from its resting place and they stopped exhibiting their healing powers, they're still the ashes of Andraste. Their true value is as a symbol.

The elves were granted land as a reward for Shartan's role in their rebellion.  We don't know the terms of the land deal, but it's hard to imagine the elves would agree to become Andrastians since if they wanted to do that they could live in the alienages.

If i remember it right, the alienages were only created after the destruction of the Dales. Sort of a solution to avoid wholesale slaughter of the elves after their war was lost, i'd imagine. Which unsurprisingly contradicts the whole "chantry just wants to wipe elves out" thing.

Yep thats a good point. The chantry basically just want to spread their influence, and they don't tolerate "paganism" in a  similiar fashion to christianity. They believe it is their duty to spread the teaching of the maker.
Or maybe they saw the Dalish as a threat. During the Exalted March of the Dales the elven force managed to reach Val Royeaux before losing their own capital.

I'm sorry, but could someone please give me a link or a post that actually said/hinted that Merril was a blood mage? I'm not calling anyone a liar, and I vaguely remember the relation to Keepers in general touching upon blood magic, but I'm digging through pages aimlessly on the forums to find the origin of this. Didn't want to start a new thread either, figured this would be a good place to ask...

I think a German magazine mentioned it, and a developer later clarified a few things that it got wrong.

Yeah that sounds right.  Of course since the Dalish wouldn't go along, the reason they stuck to the Dales was so as not to be forced into submission to human rulers and human religion.  Whether that freedom was really part of the land deal, I'm sure, is left up to interpretation.  But I could easily see where the humans might have negotiated a settlement agreement and then reneged on it for whatever reason.

So is Merrill actually 100% confirmed as a companion? Read most of the thread and I never saw any solid proof... Needless to say it'd be a huge disappointment to me if it turns out she isn't a companion. I really like her. Based on the second of footage and her facial expressions...

And sorry for bulging in like this, being new to the forums and interrupting all you natives :)

If anything, she will play a large role in the story. She might be a temporary companion as well, if not a real companion.

If BioWare has told us the specific person who is writing a character's lines, then more often than not, this character will be a companion.

It must suck being a blood magic user. I mean having to cut yourself everytime you want to cast a spell sounds painfull.

I'm not sure cutting yourself is a requirement for every blood magic spell. But it is a pretty creepy school of magic, all the same.

I think it happens when you first begin learning it, but then after experience (and specializations learned aside) has been gained you just need to cast your usual enchantment to switch fuel lines, in a manner of speaking.

Merrill's fuel might not exactly be gatorade for those about to guess. It might be the tears and blood of fallen humans, templars, and whatever else thinks lowly of her.

Unless she can sneak in some ale from that nearby tavern.

I was reading soemthing in the F/F LI thread about a conversation in the Dalish origin regarding an Union between Maren (the halla keeper) and Merrill. I don't remember any such thing from my playthrough, although its on the wiki. Anyone here able to confirm or dispel my gut feeling the wiki is wrong (again).

Badass AND useful. Until enemies drained themselves of blood near the end or were not usually numerous enough to use so we had to improvise. One thing the main campaign could be appreciated for was its abundance of foes. But then again the DLC campaigns didn't need to be overloaded to compensate for the loss of numbers.

As I posted in the F/F thread, I believe Mary Kirby dismissed that as wrong.

Oh cool. She might not be bisexual, then. Even better.

I honestly wouldn't have minded if she was bisexual, but her not being bisexual helps with confirming my mental model about the character somewhat.

The F/F people always have Isabela...

Ahh didn't see that post. Cool, thought so, considering I never saw it in my very recent Dalish origin playthrough.

Since Isabela was bisexual in DAO it's probably bit late to get upset over it...

I wasn't unhappy, per se, just mildly disappointed when I heard a rumor that Merrill could possibly be bisexual. But, I am slightly more satisfied now, since that rumor has been quashed by a BioWare staffer.
