Ok, some personal thing then. You have the rights for it, naturally, as have people rights to dislike or prefer maker knows what in other people starting from accents and ending to political opinions. I don't begin to study it any more especially in this forum.

Very well. Let's keep that discussion out of this thread, then. Thank you.

I have some stereotypes about lesbians/bisexuals, and these stereotypes clash with my mental model about Merrill.

Then don't believe in stereotypes?

Perhaps.

I don't think this thread is a place for such a discussion. Let's leave it at that.

If Merrill dies in the game, it won't be in the beginning. It will be like Sagacious Zu sacrificing himself. Or maybe like Viconia who dies because she has a romance with the PC.

Sagacious Zu... I liked that dude.

He died too early.

You know why Mhairi was a redshirt...no compelling backstory/tragedy/whatever. Merrill has the whole exile/blood mage/Pariah thing happening, so I can't see her being killed real early.

Endgame is crapshoot. Quite possible she dies if you side with the Templars?

Viconia...can you imagine freaks in BG2 does not accept a gnome as romanceable being? Pisses me big time. I should play some hummie or pointy ear just to be able to experience romances.

Sorry for the bearer of bad news again.

But I wont be suprised if this is the case with Merill

Taken from an interview with David Gaider:

GZ: How did you go about selecting which characters would show up periodically in Dragon Age II? Was that more of a fan reaction?
DG: I think it’s a little bit of both. There are some characters that we like, and that we have decided we’d like to see again. Then, sometimes, if a character is popular we might think maybe we can fit them in. As we’re sitting down, we have a number of writers that work together and some - like Mike Laidlaw - will sit down with us and will come up with an idea or a story that will be both in terms of what the game needs to be as well as what we want to do for the property as a whole. We bounce it around and think of ideas. What a fan favorite could inspire us to think, “What if we did this, everyone gets excited about it and suddenly that character becomes much bigger than we intended?”

ROTFLMAO!

People find the weirdest things, individuals and races odd as romances in games...it just the one of those never-ending tales in humanity...

That raises my eyebrows. Merrill could end up being the sacrificial lamb for something big. I knew it.

I know a certain character we can call if Merrill does indeed die. But don't expect a Thedas setting for the end result of the reviving.

[Shuts mouth extremely tightly and goes on to appreciate Merrill some more and stare the Official companions page for the update]

I was reading soemthing in the F/F LI thread about a conversation in the Dalish origin regarding an Union between Maren (the halla keeper) and Merrill. I don't remember any such thing from my playthrough, although its on the wiki. Anyone here able to confirm or dispel my gut feeling the wiki is wrong (again).

As I posted in the F/F thread, I believe Mary Kirby dismissed that as wrong.

Oh cool. She might not be bisexual, then. Even better.

I dont think you can make that assumption from this information,  The dalish would not arrange a union between two females from separate clans, the whole point of such a union would be to have children, arranged marriages have nothing to do with personal feelings or attraction.

i wonder if dalish have bred for stronger bloodlines of magic users? Might be another explanation as to why dalish are seen as powerful mages?

Merrill is only bisexual when she's high. So... maybe once or twice a week. Other than that? Totally straight.

Well, I take it that they could be quite adept at magic naturally still. After reading about their culture and all before it was overrun.

Are some of you seriously speculating that Merril won't be a permanent companion at this point? After all of the evidence? David Gaider has on MULTIPLE occasions referenced a future official reveal for her character (he was tired of breast size complaints which he felt would end with it, I believe), and she has a completely unique specialization tree known as Dalish Pariah- an amount of work and resources I do not believe would be invested in a temporary party member (our only other example of this so far is Isabella and most likely our other permanent members) She appears in a book that Cassandra showed Varric, describing Hawke and depicting her in the same light as four other people we know to be party members!

He also stated that in the very screenshot shown earlier,(the one at least one of us here think is some kind of dramatic party spread in Kirkwall) that NOT EVERY FULL COMPANION WAS IN THE SHOT, AND THAT NOT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT WAS A COMPANION. The idea that Merril not showing up in that screencap would lead to such extreme levels of speculation is flabbergasting!

Merril is as likely to be sacrificed or die mid-plot as Isabella, Aveline, Fenris, or your Brother and Sister are. The interview doesn't single anyone out in any way, and in fact is more of a reference to situations like Sandal (Enchantment) showing up again in Kirkwall or other possible reoccurring NPCs.

I mean honestly, this is probably the most annoying and frustrating thing I've read in a long time. I actually miss when the thread consisted of people arguing about Elves having bare feet, and the concept's merits or lack thereof as an unrealistic choice in real life! It was seriously a more constructive topic!

There is something suspicious about that wacky weed they put in their campfires.

In retrospect I think my response was quite a bit over the top, as I was actually a little angry at the time about something completely unrelated. Sorry that I ended up venting some frustration, but regardless my point still stands. I have literally no doubt anymore that Merril will at least join our party. Everything else (such as being a LI or not) is up in the air, but I'd be shocked if she doesn't come along at all or only as a very temporary character at this point.

So basically yes, it's still possible for her to die in-game.

Unless you know something you shouldn't, of course.

I hope not...I want her to be explored a lot...since my main character is from her clan...as you can see by my pic Posted Image

Oh, I highly doubt she will die in fact I doubt that any of the companions will die during the course of the game.

However people assuming she will live because she is somehow "special" is pure folley, especially when no one has played the game through.
