 David Gaider has on MULTIPLE occasions referenced a future official reveal for her character

she has a completely unique specialization tree known as Dalish Pariah- an amount of work and resources I do not believe would be invested in a temporary party member (our only other example of this so far is Isabella and most likely our other permanent members)

That she does, though ive heard there has been some dispute regarding the reliability of the source, but turns out the dispute was just over the correct German-English  translation of Dalish Pariah.

He also stated that in the very screenshot shown earlier,(the one at least one of us here think is some kind of dramatic party spread in Kirkwall) that NOT EVERY FULL COMPANION WAS IN THE SHOT, AND THAT NOT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT WAS A COMPANION. The idea that Merril not showing up in that screencap would lead to such extreme levels of speculation is flabbergasting!


Merril is as likely to be sacrificed or die mid-plot as Isabella, Aveline, Fenris, or your Brother and Sister are. The interview doesn't single anyone out in any way, and in fact is more of a reference to situations like Sandal (Enchantment) showing up again in Kirkwall or other possible reoccurring NPCs.



I mean honestly, this is probably the most annoying and frustrating thing I've read in a long time. I actually miss when the thread consisted of people arguing about Elves having bare feet, and the concept's merits or lack thereof as an unrealistic choice in real life! It was seriously a more constructive topic!

I think the speed with which the higher up folks shot down the notion that Merrill was only available to male wardens in DAO (something that wasnt at all true) is all the evidence you need to say that she's going to be available to Hawke regardless of gender. Of course its all a guess until they announce it, but that's clearly the best, and most fun, guess .

Where and when did such a shooting-down occur?

IIRC They were shooting down 'facts' that were apparently from a mod and not from Origins itself. They've said nothing about Merrill's preferences or availablility as a LI. I think they can come in and snipe bad information without it meaning anything :\\

Personally I don't think the dev post was about what gender Merril is attracted to, but rather what character she was attracted to... and that character was not the Warden (the dialog was edited in by a mod.)

She wasn't "available" to anyone. The vibe I got from her in the Dalish Origin is more bossy sister than LI.

Edit: Actually I switched now. Avelina wont beat that, though I will miss her. Merrill being undergrad wise could be funny too to explore her logic.

Edit: Or not sure, Avelina would not appreciate if I would talk about it. I don't think she would like to be "second".

If that happens then we now know Isabela's in to getting some Merrill loving if players decide to leave them in Kirkwall(which I never will...since chances are they both and Bethany will be rolling with my Hawke for the most part in my first playthrough anyway)....

I was thinking Avelina would be better in protecting kids but I am not sure anymore. Merill could certainly do what momma needs to do

And that is a main thing with DAO elves that get to me, i just could not distinguish them from humans(female PCs with a long hairstyles are hardest to spot). And I am sure I am not the only one with this problem...

Well, she looks kind of stretched and weird there and you can't see her ears.  I should have cropped it.

I can tell she has pointy ears. Though my elven PCs tend to have giant ears and short hair just to make them stand out

Maybe I am the one who find it strange that we do know that elves had their ancient home land and then the Dales but we do not know anything about structure of their society there.



We know that there was a nobility from whom all keepers have their blood but what was a ruling system? Monarchy or elder consul or monarchy+ assembly? And we do not know any name of any elven hero that were not a Gray Warden or a apostle of Andaste.



And that the part reason of the reason why some people find Dalish bland and not interesting.

That why I liked Witch Hunt- there was parts of elven lore that were more specific than slavery-second-home-land-ruined--wanderer--newer--submit. Hope to see more of this in DA2.

Agreed, I'm really happy that it's being picked up.  I knew there was more there- all the Dalish stuff in Origins were screaming "hint hint"- but it seems not a lot of people picked that up.

Yep, that a lot better=) Angle of view is important.

As for DAO "hint-hint" imo they were too few and too vague to grasp on them. Like elves and humans lived peacefully until some darkness came and start to kill every one and than blankness.

What do all this strange things mean? Do they even mean anything or they are just some flavor text? The fact that we have seen only Tevinter ruins is, a notable fact or just a lack of assets? 

Thats why some people with whom I talk see DA elves as some kind of pretender who do not have anything and probably never has anything of their own. An immortality, power,gods, magic, first homeland and all that jazz is nothing more than self told fairytales. They see than as a lesser human race, like neanderthals, that is a mistake of nature and should die out as a leftover should.

I dont think Merrill and Fenris will get along.. I havent worked out exactly why yet but others have speculated. I just have a feeling
