Ugh. While I do hope that Merrill shares some similarities with Tali, I hope she is radically different in certain ways, compared with Tali. Combine Tali's sweetness, the child-like demeanor that Liara had in ME1, and some traits unique to Merrill, and we would have quite a character on our hands...

I don't think anyone wants her to be a simple clone of another character.  I sure don't.  But I would love to see that sort of easter egg or refrence thrown in.

Well, judging from the recent pics of magazine and few other things...like the devs repeatedly in here talking about her as if she were a full fledged companion already(which she is- just has NOT had her character reveal yet) so it's all good!

Has it been confirmed without a doubt that Merrill is a companion? So far she interests me the most. All the others seem cool enough, but there is just something about her that I like.

OMG I'm starting to get worried, with some people saying she is only temporary. I hope to God not, her character has so much potential. Plus if I'm not mistaken there is only one more character slot open in the main DA 2 character profile page. We need a female elf mage, c'mon Bioware don't let the people down.

Between the portraits in Varric's book, Gaider's post about her reveal and Seb's remark about switching staffs between Merrill and Hawke I'm pretty sure she's a permanent companion, it's just the price the thread pays for the lack of info I guess :-)

Well, everything that we've seen would said so...but as I said...the only thing lacking is a character reveal...just skim the previous pages of this thread for in- game screen caps and dev comments and judge for yourself..if she is without a doubt confirmed as a companion. That's the only advice I can give to this.

Going on whos been confirmed so far a Mage Hawke will have a grand total of 0 companions who are mages, so I'm pretty sure Merril will be a permanant companion.

The book doesnt necessarilly proove anything... Its Cassandra's, not Varric's. It's kind of a summary of her suspects or leads, but not everything is necessarilly connected to Hawke (not unless you choose it, I guess). Mary Kirby has written of this earlier...

My point is if Merrill is an elven blood-mage, that alone is enough to be in Cassandra's book, but doesnt tell by itself of a relationship with Hawke...

I myself am a little worried about some of the changes they are making, so I can understand some of the complaints. But Im waiting until I actually play the game before I complain about anything. I dont want to rant about something, only to actually love the game and end up eating my words.

You know guys, I think the only reason they haven't revealed Merrill yet is because if they do, they will probably have to reveal many details about the plot to do so and explain why she has decided to ally herself with Hawke. And naturally, they don't want to do something like that too early, right?

Which proves that Merrill will most likely have a very important role to play in DA2.

No, not at all... They just love the "tease" approach of marketing the game. They in fact have leaked info to magazines (that is how we got to know she'll be a "blood-mage".

Id expect we have a reveal by the end of the week... *crosses fingers*

People were asking what a Welsh accent sounds like.  The Old Nan voiceover portion of this Game of Thrones clip ("Fear is for the long night...") is spoken by an actress with a Welsh accent.  It would be a Granny Merrill, but still.

I only heard about this because the actress just passed away.

I saw this in my favorites folder on dA and it reminded me of Merrill.  It's called No More Running.  I hope that won't be Merrill in DA2, but somehow I suspect it will.
