I don't know if I could have my Hawke romance her if she is an option. I'll just keep picturing Theron looking into her eyes and his hand on her arm before he walks away to save the world.

She does that for a female Mahariel too, but I understand the power of those origin romances.  *sob Tamlen Gorim sob*  The ladies seem to have gotten some extra attention in that department.

But, does that really mean no visit to the Love Shack in DA2??  If we get to tumble with Nathaniel Howe, my Hawke is so hitting that, even if mentally I have him destined for my Orlesian Dalish.

The Love Shack is possible, but as of right now, that's all I can think when I remember Merrill. I just feel like that in the Dalish origin, it was a implied she was and the warden were close. Tamlen being a friend or romance and the same for Merrill.
Let's just say that for now, I'm undecided but I have yet to play the game and have no idea what the character is like. I might just end up only liking her character and only romancing her, if possible. I got the same way with Morrigan since I really liked her character.

Odd, I was rather the opposite with Morrigan, because of her standoffish personality... I used to romance the hell outa Leliana every one of my playthroughs...atleast til I got to the dawrven noble run... I was okay, I think I'm gonna go for the 'witch of the wilds' this time.... and BOY, was I shocked... her relationship was very very impressively done...atleast once you get past the initial sex( hitting it part- as Addai would put it) part. After that for the rest of my runs I held the Morrigan romance in higher esteem then the rest of the ones in the game...even the famous 'Alistar-mance' the female players of the game love( which I was quite impressed with when I played a noble female for the first time).

I'm hoping Merrill isn't anything like Mission or Tali. The whole teenage girl personality can be incredibly annoying.

That it can... that's why I think they mentioned they hope she has a bit of Morrigan in her...which could work if done right. I suspect the one who will get a good bit of Morrigan is Isabela though...or atleast that scene in the latest dev diary gives me that impression...

True, and that was my fear from the initial comments on her character, but since Mary Kirby is writing her I can't really see that happening.  How do you go from Sten and Loghain to bubblegum Dalish?  Nah, not gonna happen.  I'm optimistic.  Those characters have some of the best and deepest dialogue in Origins.

Sten I agree with...

Loghain, however I'm rather indifferent about and no, I never read the books... so I don't know his full story...but I did talk him for a few minutes before the siege of denerim began anyway...

Well, the comments by Mary herself don't make me feel better, since they were all about how cute she is. :?

Cute is not solely 14 years old and juvenile.

Cute just means appealing in a non sexual way.

You don't get much of it, but Loghain has some great dialogue and banters.  A lot of character depth packed into only a few conversations.

I know, and I have an allergy to cute as well, but I'm choosing to interpret it all optimistically.  Posted Image

His banter was hilarious...though I kinda wonder in the back of some of the companions minds if they didn't still wish I had taken him out at the landsmeet( which I was NOT doing as a male noble...since that would keep me from marrying Anora)...

The 'cute' description had me doing a 'rock' like eyebrow raise as well...though I think I need see exactly how they portray her appeal with that in the game. I'm going with optomistic happy-middle ground approach more so than the teenager in love(tali in ME 2) approach...

If Kirby wrote all of those characters, then I daresay that Merrill might be like... that assertive young woman with a sarcastic side, with bit of a Morrigan-vibe when it comes to wit as well.

That sounds correct...though that would mean her personality from origins wasn't altered that much...going by the deduction you made about her personality.

Well, in Origins she was such a minor character, though. I don't know if her behavior as a mildly bossy know-it-all pertains to DA2. She sounded a lot like Hermione Granger from Harry Potter in the first game.

I wonder if challenging her on her know it all-ness will lead down the rivalary path of the affection line with her...which I would find interesting as hell...though I may do that as mage...so I have a chance in hell of surviving the fireball, she might send my way...LMAO!

Well, in Harry Potter, she and Ron Weasley had quite a tumultuous and antagonistic relationship with one another in both the sixth and seventh books. Yet, Ron still married her in the end.

It could happen.

I sort of got the impression that's what was going when I watched the 6th movie...though I never saw the 7th movie...or atleast part one of the movie...

A personality like that would be pretty jarring after what we saw from her in Origins.

I know she ws focusing on the mission there, but that serious and business-like attitude was too thick for it not be part of her overall personality in some way.

Well, I can deal with a character that has a Hermione Granger-esque vibe to it. Plus a touch of Morrigan, and we will have a great character.

Yeah, i would rather they stay closer to her origins personality as well...that way she seems authentic and it will make roleplaying her into Hawke's arms...and eventually his bed...that much better. ;)

I was reading an article about DA2 in the newest issue of OXM. They had some description about Merrill. Basically saying she is eager to tell you about anything of the Dalish's history but is inexperienced with outside culture, or among her people. The article seems to suggest Merrill was sent with you to help get experience with outsiders.

Well, that seems rather likely as I wouldn't expect a lot of the Dalish to be familiar with the outside world considering the way they view humans(shemlins)....so that seems like a plausible deduction made by OXM...

Interesting. Kind of sounds like a mixture of Hermione Granger and Neville Longbottom...

I can't believe I am describing characters in a video game using Harry Potter archetypes.

Ugghh... Another day and no reveal. I really feel disapointed...

I bring a topic to discuss though, to keep this on topic. Did you notice that in the recent in-game footage Merrill seems more thin and slim (more adult too), closer to the concept art than in the cinematic -first- shot? Does that say she'll look different in the cinematics or that they polished her a bit? Or im just waaayyy off ? Thoughts? Preferences?
