Here is the direct quote from OXM that mentions Merrill:

"In the Free Marches, during the quest that Flemeth asks you to carry out for her, you'll meet up with the Keepers of the Dalish. One of them is Merrill, a doe-eyed elf who'll be your quest guide and also a potential companion. She's crazy-booksmart, can recount pretty much the entire history of her people, and can navigate the Fade, an other-worldly, alternate reality. But for all her skills, she's a bit of a strange cookie with little to no experience with the outside world--or even the Dalish elves themselves."

So she's a Dalish nerd.  I like it!

Someone should photoshop Gordon Freeman's nerdy glasses onto her.

I read that and thought of Gary Oldman. Weird, but relevant to the nerd look.

I'd watch the Dark Knight now if I didn't have my suspense of disbelief ruined so many times.

You mean the Gary Oldman from the newer set of Batman movies? Yeah, i could kinda see that but I think we need a female actor with that kinda appeal to it... to go with Merrill. Someone earlier in this thread brought up Amy Acker( from the 'Angel' series) as her VA and I think she would certainly fit the bill...

"Kinda missing my point, aren't you?"

No, seriously. I just got Gordan Freeman and Gary Oldman mixed up in my head. I wouldn't commit that to the actual Merrill. I like Gary Oldman as an actor, but I'd prefer not to mix the two up. It just doesn't fit for me.

Okay, I see where you were going with it... and no, that doesn't really fit for me either.

She's a nerd-type character going by the description from OXM...which means she's probadly a bit on the antisocial side of the totempoll...which would be different from Hermoine... but not so much. I do get that vibe from her though...so this will be an interesting character none the less.

If she is a "nerd-type character", and she is "a bit on the antisocial side" then it will be a nice change from the very social characters like Wynne, Leliana and Oghren. And as well, the anti-social - because they aren't particularly friendly - characters Sten and Morrigan. Hopefully, if she is a nerd-type character, she keeps her knowledge to herself. That way you won't know what you'll get from romancing her, and it will be more appealing.

Wynne's opinions about right and wrong got really annoying sometimes, so hopefully she won't be like that either.

Yes, they did...especially when it came to dealing with your LI( particularily if the LI was Morrigan, I think i saw a dark side of Wynne during one of those conversations). Well, the above reader mentioned how Merrill talks some about the Dalish lore...so I dunno exactly what knowledge she is keeping to herself...but it would be good if left some things to the imagination, I will certainly agree with that.

She's definitely sounding more and more like Tali to me, except even better, a more powerful version of Tali! She may be the one character who can surpass Tali in awesomeness and even popularity. Of course a big part of that will depend on her voice, hopefully it's as awesome as Merrill herself!

In the now closed "Lady Hawke Voice Actor" thread... a dev( Stanley Woo) mentioned her voice sound like something that would make 'dolphins sing' in a good way... so I'm guessing that  they got someone really good with an authentic welch accent to do her voice...which I'm sure will be amazing. I tend to think she will be a more badass version of tali that's why I'm almost guranteeing she will be in my party for all of my playthroughs of the game( which at this point is gonna be atleast 6 times).

Just for clarification, dolphins singing in a bad way is what you hear in The Cove.

Those were his exact words...though I dunno if anyone else in that thread was actually paying attention at that point...

Here is the link to that thread... http://social.biowar...ndex/5817879/37. You have to scroll down to the 15th post on that page to read what he says...he mainly discusses Lady Hawke but mentions Merrill at the tail end of the post.

Yes! This! You guys have no idea how cute Merrill is. I work here and and I still squee when she says things I haven't heard.

There's a lot of this in the writer pit:

Just reading this thread to catch up on things..as I have been away for many months,  I am STILL a FAN however.

Just wanted to quote the above, as i found it entirely too hilarious,   made me laugh for about five minutes straight hehehe

Yeah... You totally cracked this, Raziel, actually theres a female dolphin in the Aquarium in Orlando, Florida..., I've heard she makes Welsh accents, she must have been the voice of Merrill...=]

Edit: Welcome aboard Feraele, have an elven cookie...  :wizard:*grabs one from the bag*
That Merrill story was epic indeed... Unfortunately, the writers dont hang out much in this thread anymore... :bandit:

Raziel, I think youre overstretching it dude... really. The quote comes from a commentary made by "namedforthemoon" a poster... so I doubt it. In any case, the only gal that could be from that movie is an Australian actress, Isabel Lucas. If it turns out to be her (regardless of all logic) I'll send you smthg to wherever you live as gift, for being so incredibly nutty... LOL

I have NO doubts about that...LOL. Although I must say I like all of the voices I've heard of the characters(malehawke, aveline, isabela, carver, varric, cassandra)... so I don't think I'll be disappointed with Merrill's at all.

His is a bit off... the part that sounds like Vaughan Urien, especially.... Now, if for the most part he continues to favor his Ser Bryant sound...then I think he could be pretty good.

Agreed, Ser Bryant's voice is much better to my ears, anyway I hope we get to hear Merrill's voice soon, I totally doubt it though since we haven't heard Fenris yet and he was announced like ages ago :P

Well, the Fenris voice... apparently has something to do with Gaider saying how if he let people hear it, they would be able to guess his VA almost right away. My problem is we have heard Carver's voice...now we need to hear Bethany's voice..why one twin and not the other?

LOL, they needed to show more of Carver to stop all the herp derp talk :P, now Beth... I guess we'll hear her soon enough in the demo, what I want more than anything right now is either a Merrill reveal or warrior spec info.

Pretty much the same as well... though I stuck to the HN runs( male mostly so I could marry Anora)...this is also why I basically cared little for hearing Carver, because he at the maximum rate will be involved in my playthroughs( male or female) 33% of the time...and that's just the original six...which I'm sure I'll do quite few more than that...

Carver most likely will stay out of my party as well, I always use two mages, so when I play warrior there'll be Merrill + Male mage or Merrill + Beth (if she's a permanent companion) and one rogue... either Varric or Isabella and mostly Varric because Isabella looks kinda meh to me and Sebastian? well I've had enough of the I was wronged and I'll have revenge kind of characters.
