Hello fellow Merrill fans... how are we all doing today? Has that NDA lifted yet or are we still waiting?

1.Oh you weren't around Tali was mentioned in 90% of threads.
2. isn't that exactly what that guy asking for Merril to be like Tali said?
3.I applaud you for admitting fault, that's very rare and mature of you.
But i never called any one a freak. I try to avoid as many personal attack as possible. I simply QFT'ed other poster's comment on not wanting Merril to be like tali.
Well I think we're ready to move past the topic at this point then. Just a misunderstanding. You QFT'd a post that I ended up finding fairly offensive, and the other post itself was definitely a personal attack on fans of Tali- but I can hear you on not wanting any of the DA2 characters to be very similar to any of the ME2 characters, regardless of which ones we're talking about.
(Except for Wrex or Mordin. Someone can be pretty much the same as Wrex or Mordin and I wouldn't care at all, they're too awesome)
On #2, I don't think that's what the other guy was getting at, though. The only thing about Tali he said was that he hopes she's as beautiful as Merrill is, which I think is only a compliment for our own Dalish Pariah more then anything else.
I disagree with him about his Blood Mage line, though! People need to get over it, it's not much more foul, evil or corrupting then any of the other more destructive schools of magic we've seen.
Also, I wasn't even aware the NDA was lifted today! Hopefully we get some awesome news.

Also guys it seems some websites got the full game, the DA2 guide page is up at IGN, and while they'll never release it right now they also never create a guide page unless they already have the full game... more info coming soon, I'm feeling it.

It's like comparing a flower to Arl Howe's face.
Sorry for the flaming, but Merrill should be put above all that.

We don't know enough about Merrill to make a succinct judgement on whether or not her character is even comparable to Tali's character. But, given that we are largely relying on stereotypes at the moment, it's hard not to avoid thinking about them when judging characters by their face value (which is all what we have at the moment).
When Tali was introduced, I higly doubt people were thinking if she could be the "girl next door". That is because her appearance as a masked alien went against the mental models that people had in their heads about so-called "girls next door". But, Tali did prove herself to fit into this stereotype somewhat, and that is why some people (like me) like her character a lot, even if it is somewhat lacking here and there.
Then suddenly, Merrill appears out of nowhere and looks completely adorable. This appearance fitted well with what people had in mind for a "girl next door", so Tali comparisons were automatically drawn.
I hope she's not another Tali, because that would somewhat boring. And, honestly, Tali kind bores me these days. I want a girl with Tali's sweetness, but a little more flair as well. Merrill could easily fit into that, given what we have read in the OXM preview. Tali is a patriot (how boring), but it seems that Merrill is dedicated to knowledge and learning, something that is mildly less stereotypical and may lead into occassions where Hawke may have to confront Merrill and tell her to focus more on the real world.
The only reason I drew comparisons to Harry Potter's Hermione Granger is because OXM claimed that she was a bookworm who knew little else, hence the comparison.

I was wondering, Merrill will have a Welsh accent now, won't she? I'm sure I read a read ages ago where the devs said that the Dalish have Welsh voices now. That will be interesting, if her appearance, personality and voice seem altered from Origins.
Here's a great example.

No, that's Miranda's buck-teethed uncanny valley face you're thinking of. We never saw Tali's, which I'm sure will be just fine if it's similar to the placeholder from ME2.
I'm glad you're sorry for the flaming, because you should be. I didn't actually mean the last statement, but it's a good example of the kind of opinions you need to keep out of this thread.
Here's a female example of a Welsh accent, just from searching Youtube for a moment

Funny.
One thing I will say is that Merril's "pariah" status seems to come from her messing around with things she might have known were off limits, while Tali's exile came from her basically being a good little girl for her father and then getting screwed by politics (if it came). Pretty big difference right there if you ask me...

I'm actually curious if "Pariah" here was referring to the idea that she is more of a social outcast then an actual one. That one preview did describe her as being rather awkward around even other Dalish elves, and being quite a know-it-all (bringing some people in the thread to compare her with Hermione) so perhaps Dalish Pariah is a more light-hearted title brought from her being ostracized in that sense instead of being a far more negative and serious label in respect to a possible banishment. After all, she was described as being encouraged by the Keeper to follow Hawke, rather than forced to.
Although it's also possible her delving into Blood Magic will just accidentally take her a step too far at some point during her introduction mission, and the Keeper (being protective of her) just sends her away with Hawke and keeps it all under wraps instead of being discovered and captured by the other, less forgiving Elves?

Oh no, I know that. I was suggesting maybe Blood Magic (at least in respect to the line of Blood Magic wielded by Keepers) just isn't a bad thing to the Dalish at all. It wouldn't be the reason she was a pariah, in that case.
This is actually completely plausible if only for the fact that the way blood magic is viewed is from the negative side of things in which it pertains to origins and awakenings( as in all the blood mages you dealt with, weren't exactly good people). Where as the OXM preview seems to suggest that Merrill in this case is more of just a product of study with the Dalish clan, and it SEEMS as if she may ahve been properly trained in how to use blood magic( or she learned by reading a massive amount of books and such...).

Yeah that's a good point. I can't decide if I want more info now or if I should just wait to be surprised in game.
