Her unique tree is called "Dalish Pariah" which has some blood mage spells in it, that however is not set in stone yet, it was mentioned in a German magazine and somehow an IGN screenshot confirms it.
Think she gets exiled for her blood magic?

Whoa, I hope this is what Tali looks like under the helmet.
CAN'T... HANDLE... THE CUTENESS!! *tries to grab on to something before falling to the ground, dieing.*
Please BioWare don't make her a blood mage, she deserves better then that! D:
P.S.: I just noticed, if you look at her shoulders and then at her face, it looks like her neck is too long... O_o
I don't see anything wrong about being a blood mage. Being a blood mage doesn't make someone evil, it's what they use the power for. It's just another branch of magic. I'm actually glad that she is one, or at least has some knowledge of that type of magic because it does not make her a stereotypical "pure" character. That could be one of her flaws that she struggles with internally during the game, and adds to the dynamic of her character.

Can we give her the blood mage specialization, or she is one already?
She's is one already, she's been one since before we met her.
Actually, the whole Blood Magic/Mages/Templar situation reminds me quite a bit of X-Men and the Mutant Registration Act taken to the extreme. These people are born with incredible and potentially devastating powers, and the government trying to control them, popular belief painting them as monsters, needing protection from the world as much as it needs protection from them... all of these themes I've seen play out before, but never in favor of the control (Chantry) but instead in favor of the oppressed (Mages.) It's an interesting paradigm shift, and I wonder how it'll continue to play out in DA2.

No, she isn't exiled, at least that's not how I interpret what the mag said about her, she seems to be and for lack of a better way to put it "socially awkward" and that made her some kind of a loner or a stranger even amongest her own people, I hope that's the case because another exiled dalish mage would remind me too much of Velanna.
@Somebody: To me Blood Magic is just another school of magic, an alternative to lyrium if you will but with greater danger of being used in the wrong way, how the Dalish in genreal perceive it is yet to be seen, the same concerns Merrill as well.

I do like the drooping ears though, very manga/anime. Makes Merrill, for one, cuter and more elvish in appearance.

The only thing I really dislike about it, is the fact that you can use it to control the minds of others.
As I said earlier in the thread, you can use a gun to murder someone in cold blood, or a police officer can use it to protect innocent people, same as any mage can fry other people with their minds, however I agree that mind control is somehow more dangerous and alluring than the other magical abilites but it doesn't mean thay everyone who knows blood magic will use it to mind control other people for his own benefit.

But maybe you're just thinking that because a blood mage is making you so...ViSeirA wrote...

that is the main source of fear when it comes to blood magic, i think. Or maybe it's just a blood mage pulling my strings?

I think now DA elves differ from humans not only by high and ears but by overall body shape. I think that they are look like Lorwyn Elves from MTG set Lorwyn/Shadowmoor minus the gazelle parts.Orian Tabris wrote...
Drooping ears, I wonder if that was just to define the difference between humans and elves physically, since they now seem to have the same heights (which I'm thoroughly opposed to). Kind of counter-intuitive if you ask me, seeing as how the ears were the best way to tell them apart from afar.
I do like the drooping ears though, very manga/anime. Makes Merrill, for one, cuter and more elvish in appearance.

Yes, they're said to be considerably thinner. Also, the drooping ears thing is supposedly just a result of camera angle and head tilt in that particular shot, they're really just like Fenris' ears and that of DAO elves.Eorion_Moonwing wrote...

Nearly but not quite as tall, suffice to say male elves are as tall as female humans while still being slightly shorter than male humans.

I've seen a whole 3 second clip of merrill and I already like her more than isabella. Hopefully I end up really liking her, they're not giving me a whole lot of choices here. I think her VA is going to make her or break her.

Lol, great minds think alike then, I can't stand Isabella as well, I just don't like the whole "OMG I wanna HAS sex" kind of character.
IMO, it really sort of takes away from hawke's character. I don't envision him as a drooling idiot who falls for the first woman who waves sex at him. Kind of the same thing going on in Mass Effect with miranda.
So here's to merrill totally rocking otherwise my hawke's romantic life isn't looking good.
