Merril joins you for unknown reasons during a quest after meeting her Clan, thus becoming an outcast from her Clan. She was the First training to become the next Keeper... other then that, not much else.

That information was kind of  "deducted" here in this thread from a Marian Hawke dialog wheel screenshot. It was from a magazine, cant remember if it was the German magazine or other.

No not really... though she does help you perform a ritual that leads to a major plot twist in the story.

Here's my bet.



There was a barrier protecting some ancient Elven ruins, that were discovered there and needed to be safe-guarded from outside influence, especially from Shemlen. However, Hawke's party needs to get in there for something important.



Merrill is the only one to realize this, and she goes out on a limb to help you, except that she's caught and is thus banished?



Alright, it's pretty much all just speculation at this point but I'm curious... how do all of YOU think she'll decide to join Hawke's party?

One thing I appreciate about that video is the sexual commentary. I welcome more mild and sexy scenes where the mood is the central part and not those cheesy awkward ones, more "reealing ones", only for the sake of showing some skin (that eventually you end up 'not showing').


Mmmmm... Laidlaw mentions Isabela, AGAIN, and even the filthy dog. But no Merrill... I hope he goes finally bald by the time of DA3...

I think whatever happens in that ritual atop Sundermount will make her decide to go with Hawke.

Alright, just saw the Game Trailers interview with Mike, I captured Merrill from there and adjusted tone/contrast and sharpness in Photoshop.



Her default staff looks awesome, like a scythe... all of you behold "Merrill the Reaper"

It's just as I thought so many pages ago. She's just about as tall as any female human, but stretched/skewed thinner horizontally like you just selected her body in MS Paint.


Also, I find it funny that she's got thigh-high boots just like Isabella... just one difference, she knows how to put on pants.


It's interesting, before Anders' reveal I was going with Team Not-Human of Merrill, Fenris and Varric, with my Hawke free to play any class and still have a good class distribution... but now I find myself forced to replace myself with Anders and either take Fenris' place as Warrior Hawke or Varric's place as a Rogue Hawke.

Or I could go 3 mage party + Fenris. Heavy risk...
