I suspect she represents pretty well the body/silhouette of "new" female elves if nothing else, since these are shared across the board.
That is correct -- the elves are now super-slender -- though I would suggest getting a better look at her body (and her height) before making extrapolations. Not that this will stop people anyhow, but I'm simply suggesting that you realize you're operating on limited info there. This was not, after all, the "come see how Merrill and elves look" video.

Will we get to see Merrill without all the
baggy clothes in the way? (I don't mean naked, but in something that
shows of her figure better. Like some tighter armor or robes. Or does
her current outfit do that just fine, just not in this clip?

Why don't you negative folk make a ''Merrill is fugly and looks like a 12 year old thread'' and move over there? Since this is a appreciation thread.
On topic: If she's not a complete b*tch like Velanna was most of the time then I love her already .
She looks nice overall, cute, pure, innocent. In other words, she looks like someone one would like to defile.
Er... I don't know about you but when I see something "cute, pure, and innocent" my first thought isn't to defile it..
Its to appreciate and take care of it.. Though I can't speak for everyone. <_<

I think she's recognizeable-- but I also recall Merrill having very little to say in the Dalish origin. She was focused on your mission and expressed curiosity about the elven ruins, but not much beyond that. In fact, I'd say she was more or less a blank slate. As for what she is in DA2 and why, you'll see that soon enough I'm sure.

I really wish the writing team would exhibit Obsidian's level of professionalism in this case, as it reflects better on a title that I -want- to like as I have enjoyed the developers' past work.

What the hell people? what the hell.

Really? Why?! As it was, in Origins their limbs look like they came straight out of a concentration camp. And not a work camp even, where they might have had some normal muscle tone.David Gaider wrote...

I can buy that. It's just that the idea of "omg she's so cute" doesn't really seem to fit with the more serious nature I, at least, got out of Merrill in the origin. She came off even as being a bit bossy older sister, and I could certainly see bossy sister being fun when things weren't so dire. As long as "cuuuute" is a part of her personality and not the whole of it, I won't be so worried!

I admit, I cringed a little at the pile-on of look at the little elf, isn't she cute.
But, the fact that Mary wrote her is a bright spot on the horizon. I'll just repeat the mantra to myself: She's Sten-Loghain elf.. she's Sten-Loghain elf.. she's Sten-Loghain elf...
Not that I want to see that morph. LOL
In fact, all the story stuff I heard in the dev diary sounds great. Awesome, in fact. It's really the visuals I'm struggling with.

Level of professionalism and ability to have fun aren't exactly related

Mary and Sheryl are just people, and are allowed to have fun like anyone else. Considering how admirably they both proved themselves on Origins -- which I assume you enjoyed -- I'd think they'd be above such insulting comments as this.
Insulting indeed. Not to mention ignorant, rude, sexist, condescending, etc. I'd hate it if the writers just sat there stone faced the whole time while perfecting their craft. It's freaking Dragon Age, not the Walstreet journal.
