No it's not, all staffs are like this now, they have blades on one end for the melee animations, in combat if she engages in melee she'll hit them with that scythe looking blade

Neh I don't think so. Remember she is an elf and elves live much longer than humans. To me she looks about 20 in human years, so I don't see a 10 year span making her look visibly older.

Dalish elves still dont live that much longer then humans.

The quote on here reveal page also mentions that it is her duty to remember, even things that may be dangerous.

This could be the reason why she knows blood magic, simply to preserve it.

Nice reveal, but every single other companion got 2 new screenshots. I want merrill's. Also to people confused over merrill's armor we've seen in game, and the stuff in the concept art, that's probably just what she wears later in the story. We know the companions change appearance throughout the story, (aveline has 3 sets of armor we've seen so far), so it's safe to assume merrill will have a few as well.

I'm not sure if with the upgrade the clothes is going to change . But if this happen, why can't Isabela changes her oufits with the upgrade?

yup, it would be upside down, just like any other weapon stored on the back, since you draw them over the shoulder. i like the look of it, though having that bit on the end be a little more scythe-like would be kinda bad ass

They say that they have regained only a little of what they once had, and that apprentice to Zathrian says that while Dalish live longer, none have lived nearly as long as Zathrian has. I assume that they do live longer, but not by like centuries.

Seems odd, then, that she'd be a 'pariah' if it was the Keeper's job to preserve knowledge of blood magic. I guess to them blood magic is a 'look, but don't touch' thing, and she decided to touch.

If it was rightside up it would be upside down when she pulls it off her back. Try it with a cardboard tube you'll see what I mean.

Edit: Looking at the screenshots she does seem to wield it with the scythe facing down. So yeah it is upside down, and it will look weird animated.

I'm hoping she gets that awesome armor in the concept later in the game as well, it looks so badass

@Citizen Q: Regarding Blood Magic, nice observation you have there, she most likely uses it as well but it'd interesting if her motives to know about it are simple like that.

Probably I chose the wrong words. What I was trying to say is that if Merrill change her outfit with the upgrades, Isabela could  probably do the same thing. I was responding to crimzontears, who thought that Merrill has a more armoured outfit than Isabela.

That's what I was thinking as well, with the info we have it might be safe to put an example. If the average human life span in Thedas in around 100 years then a Dalish elf would live from 120-150 years or something.

@hhh89: I remember a dev saying that not all companions will have different outfits, Aveline seems to be the exception rather than the rule, the others will get visual upgrades only, if Merrill is the same as Aveline however then that'd be awesome!

I wish we can get her early in the game, in a Gernan preview they said they got her right after Varric, so that sounds about right since we get the amulet quest before going to Kirkwall.

Yes, I remembered that. It will be awesome, though the fact that Aveline changes her outfit could be related to what she becomes in the game (I read something about that in a recent interview). Howewer, if I have to choice I prefer to change Carver's outfit than Merrill. Because I like Merrill's one, while Carver it seems (in my opinion) ridicolous with that outfit (for a warrior). He doesn't seem to get as much marketing as Bethany but in the few screenshots we see him he's either in Lothering (in the exaggerated version he has armor) or in the early days of Kirkwall where even Aveline still hasn't any armor, anyway I'm really digging that outfit Merrill has on in the concept, hope it makes it to the game!

I was just reading about what an innovation the Assyrian jackboot was in the history of warfare, how it improved mobility etc.  Meanwhile you have nomadic Dalish who are skipping through the daisies in foot thongs.

lol yeah, I agree. Not a big fan of the feet-boot things either. It would make even less sense if alienage elves wore them too.

Just give all the elves regular shoes.

Could be nothing at all, they didn't even bother drawing her face (that doesn't look like Merrill at all, no tattoos?), maybe they just slapped some concept armor on the female elf body and that's it... I'm hoping not though.

I would not be suprised if that was the case. However, all of the other concept art for this game seems to have been accurate. :happy:
