Has anyone posted the Game Informer stuff yet? I didn't see it, but pardon if I'm repeating. Also, spoilers. Well, a non-spoiler tidbit is that Merrill is described as "awkward."

There be spoilers ahead

SPOILERS AHOY

Hawke is given the amulet from Flemeth. When you get to Kirkwall, you can't get into the city right away and have to live on the outskirts. You're hired out as a mercenary to pay your entrance into the city. While you're out there, you can do the quest to Sundermount which is where you find the Dalish clan. Showing the amulet to the guards, you're taken to Marethari. She tells you to use the amulet to perform a ritual. Merrill is sent with you to do the ritual on an altar on the top of the mountain. The ritual unleashes a "dark secret" that is a major plot twist in the game. For some reason that is left a mystery, rather than return to the clan, Merrill accompanies you to Kirkwall.

OK, well, then that means...we can go pick Merrill up, really early into the story...possibly before we get Anders (which won't matter to me since he'll be riding the pine for the most part)...but definetely after we get Varric...sounds interesting n cool though...will definetely have to see what happens with this ritual business though...LOL.

There seem to be quite a few mages in DA2 between Bethany, Merrill, and Anders, though I guess that's just one more than before really.

Anyway, since Merrill doesn't seem very socialized, mainly keeping to herself a lot, I am kind of looking forward to her reactions once she's out of the Dalish camp.

That's the way the party dynamic was set up for the game because with origins...the warriors(which I mostly played) had a massive advantage in the party...here they are more evened out...with Hawke usually being the one who gives one class a slight advantage over another( though sebastion being DLC gives rogues an automatic 1 person adavantage from the getgo)...

Well, in Kirkwall itself, it appears she will have a hut of some kind in the alienage where she stays and that will be where you would interact with her and such..so, it seems other then when she's chatting with you or doing party banter with the other characters(which maybe a reason to use all the characters at times...though mostly for me...they will all only get their uses during their 'personal' quests), she won't be all that socialable...though I dunno, this ritual seems like it will be a pretty big event in the story..

Whooo, so she's one of the earliest companions we can get in the game:O, Bioware, you have a habit of tormenting me, I don't know how am I gonna spend the next 4 weeks.:crying:

Also just found new fanart at Deviant by Water-spirit109

Seems largely influenced by the concept art, but otherwise it looks awesome, especially the outfit :P

You pick up Anders early by the sounds of it.

More spoilers

Anders, being the naughty Grey Warden escapee that he is, has a map of the Deep Roads that you need in order to do Varric's mission, which sounds like the first task you're given after the initial time skip when Hawke reaches Kirkwall.  But since we see other followers like Fenris with Hawke in the Deep Roads, it probably is a case of you can get several quests and don't have to do them in order.  So it's possible that it's up to the player if they go to Sundermount first or to the district in Kirkwall where Anders has his little St. Vengeance Hospital.

That's just conjecture on my part, though- the "major plot twist" may initiate another time jump so it may be that Merrill's quest doesn't trigger right away, I dunno.  The article says (I'm paraphrasing) "you get some tasks to earn money, and while doing these Hawke remembers he has a promise he hasn't kept", i.e. to deliver the amulet.  So it's not clear to me if "Hawke remembers" means the quest triggers at some point while doing other things or that's just a figure of speech.

Hmmm, I'd be happy as long as we can do the quest in the first year, Also does it really says Anders has a hospital called St. Vengeance or was that paraphrasing on your part? :P

That's cool... it doesn't exactly matter when...though I suppose some worried because the whole going about 20 hrs or so into the game before getting Isabella...which seems odd and quite to me(though we got ohgren at roughly the same point depending on when you went to orzammar in origins). Even if we have to get Anders and Fenris first...it's cool...just means I'll have Fenris with me either before I grab Merrill or slightly after...though with my party, I'm gona have to see how I can work him into it since I'm gonna try n run Merrill, Bethany, and Izzy( for lockpicking) for most of my first run- character based side quests not included...

I think that we don't have to follow a single street to recruit companions, but that we can choose when we want to recruit them. Maybe only Varric is "forced" when we enter the city.

My thoughts exactly, Hawke will beign by working for Varric I guess, we see him giving Hawke a pouch of money in one vid, and he's the narrator so it's safe to say he's with us no matter what, so is Aveline as well... the others, we'll just have to wait and see OR alternatively we can bombard Mike with questions about that today in the live chat.

The first review for the game is in! I'm getting more and more hyped up for release day... we get a live Stream tonight, in a week and a half we'll have a free Demo and before long it'll be out, and we'll have our answer to if Merrill is a LI or not, and quite a bit more as well. I'm the most curious to see how Ander's storyline will end for him in this game, and what kind of condition the Chantry will be in...

Yeah, I saw the thread with the review...that's great...will be good to box art of the game for selling purposes...LOL. I just saw the gamespot video...Bethany has a nice voice, as I would have hoped...and Carver's death was....well, he got owned LMAO!

*SNIP SNIP SNIP*

So Flemeth gives Marethari an enchanted amulet that  young and talented "outsider" mage elf uses.... and then after it's used Merrill doesn't want to return to the clan again but would rather help Hawke?

I certainly hope the experience wasn't that character changing to Merrill.  It would be horrible to find out that Merrill suddenly wasn't "herself"

Flemeth and her crazy rituals

Yea Anders is already possessed by a demon, so I don't think Merrill will be. That would make their characters to similar. At least I hope that doesn't happen, otherwise Flemeth is going to get destroyed again.

GODDAM!:pinched:

*sigh*

The spoiler warning didn't do much. Dammit, I didn't wanna know that.

Jus saw the home page at the website, seems there's an interesting bit of info there:

Merrill is a Dalish mage. She will join your party and aid you in your journey in Dragon Age 2, helping with her powerful nature based magics. However, Merrill's clan is in danger and she must find help for her people. Whatever the cost.

Looks like her unique skill web will be similar to the Keeper spec, I hope Thornblades and One With Nature are still in :o

I was sure that some of her spells will be based on nature magic. I'm really eager to see her spec.

This is why the companion specific specs is th e first thing I'm maxing out for ALL of my companions...there is no way around avoiding  taking them all to 'badass' level as quickly as possible!( I did this same sorta thing in ME 1...not so much in DA:O though...with Morrigan atleast...LOL).
