Yes! I am a Tali fan and I believe that Merrill has the potential portray the "girl next door" archetype far better than Tali did (not to say that she didn't do a good job, either, of course).

Do you mean that in a "having a raging, zealous fangroup that is one wrong comment away from violence" way? Tali was the Twilight of Mass Effect - there are only two extreme opinions when it comes to her: "OHMIGOSH SHE IS THE GREATEST I WANT HER BABIEZ LULZ" and "SHE SUCKS AND SHE MUST DIE A VIOLENT DEATH". So no, no more Talis, please.


Also, when do we get to hear her voice?

Don't get me wrong, I liked Tali well enough, in ME1 anyway. Just not her romance sub-plot. Wasn't for me I guess. Even if I did, I'd rather see Merrill have quite a distinctly different personality.

I like some cute and awkward moments, just hate when they overdo it.

Agreed. Tali and her fans are a blight upon these forums and I sincerely hope that awesome Merrill is NOT like Tali in any way, shape or form. Yes I hate Tali.

The outstanding Mary Kirby wrote Merrill so I doubt she just copy+pasted any of the other characters from older Bioware games to write one of the main companions.

I'll admit that I hope she's anywhere near as good as Tali was, though. She was the best romance to come out of either Mass Effect game, and ranks up there in one of the best written characters in any Bioware game (well, her appearance in ME2. ME1 was more along the lines of walking Quarian codex entry.)

Tali's fine. Some of her more insane possessive fans give her a bad rep, but I think she's a wonderful character.



If Merrill becomes as popular, good for her. I just hope she doesn't also get the insane, possessive fans who flinch and spit poison whenever someone mentions a slight dislike of the character or wishes she was S/S.

This more than anything else has me excited for meeting Merrill. Sten and Loghain were among my favorite characters from Origins.

I see that you are part of a tali appreciation group. You have a great bias so your opinion is not accepted. This is why the talimancers are hated, since they glorify her to the point of godness. To say she is better written than someone like Loghain or Alistair is completely false and a sign of incredible bias. P.S. Since Anders is a companion, do you think she will react if he talks about meeting our Dalish Warden?

The insane Tali fans stay in the ridiculously massive Tali thread. I constantly see people referencing Tali's crazy fanbase, saying "cue swarm of Talimancers", and posting that picture of the supposed Tali doll (that, if you Tineye it, clearly originated from some random forum that has nothing to do with Mass Effect; it was a weirdo documenting his efforts to make a homemade sex doll).

Guess what? The "swarm of Talimancers" never come. Tali's fanbase contains some people who are devoted to a somewhat bizarre degree, but they keep to themselves. Yet it seems there's a backlash to Tali's popularity that just won't die.

Anyway, Merrill. She looks cute, and has the potential to be voiced by Eve Myles. I think I shall romance her with my male Hawke.

Tali's alright, I like her character, but I always romance Liara. I wouldn't mind if Merrill and Tali shared some similarities, but if it was a direct copy I don't know if I would like her that much.

Seriously though, I'm not sure if Merrill will remember growing up with the Warden too well, as she was always kind of removed from the rest of the Dalish clan and alienated as a mage and Keeper's First.

However, that said I can see a party member dialog banter starting up somewhere along the lines of...

Anders: "So..."
Merrill: "Are you trying to hit on me again?"
Anders: "No, not this time. But I realized something today... you're a Dalish elf, right?"
Merrill: "Please don't tell me you just noticed."
Anders: "What I mean is... I helped out a friend a while back, and he was Dalish, too. I wonder if you knew him?"
Merrill: "Yes, all of the Dalish are on a first-name basis with all other Dalish, no matter their clan. It's definitely safe for you to assume I know every Dalish you've ever met, in fact."
Anders: "Well now that you mention it, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you'd memorized your entire race's birth records..."
