Exactly.

Poor Audrey Tautou, you think Michael Cera suffers from typcasting, she will forever live in the shadow of Amelie

Well there was that one film where she played a near murdering obsessive stalker.

Jowan abused it eventually... I'm pretty certain the dalish have different views on magic as you said but I kinda think they also understand the dangers of Blood Magic, which begs the questions if they do possess Blood Magic, what do they use it for? Zathrian used it for a curse, Merrill uses it to do a ritual... they seem to understand it very well which might mean Elven Magic is Blood Magic, Velanna could summon wild sylvans which is basically spirits bound in trees, I like the Blood Magic angle with Merrill and it'd be really interesting seeing how that turns out.

What I don't understand is who said she even used Blood Magic? Where did this info come from?

In the PC Games Mag, they said she uses Blood Magic to break a barrier in her way to the top of Sundermount for the ritual.

When?  The only two blood magic abilities we ever know of Jowan using is one defensive magic and another entirely optional power to try to save Conner, that even he seems reluctant to do.

When? He poisoned Arl Eamon, you'll tell me poison is not blood magic, I'll tell you if he didn't possess blood magic, he wouldn't have needed to escape the tower, he wouldn't have been captured by templars and he wouldn't have agreed to poison an arl in order to save his petty life.

I don't object to blood magic, in fact we had a lot of conversations about it early in the thread, but in order to possess blood magic you'd have to have incredible will and self control in order to resist the temptation to abuse it, if the all the dalish keepers do indeed know blood magic then they're doing a good job using it, otherwise every blood mage in Thedas seems like a criminal to me.

While true, possessing blood magic and abusing it are two entirely different things, as are any indirect results of the former. As far as we know, there are no instances of him actually abusing blood magic itself. Regardless, this seems off topic.

Maybe in America. In France, she's still pretty damn successful and has a wide variety of roles. Her character in Priceless was very different from Amelie.

I'm glad tha she's a LI, though this time the only possibility for Bioware to upset me for romance was to don't make romance options. I like Merrill, Isabela and Aveline. It will be a tough choice between Merrill and Isabela, but I'm going to do so many playthrough that the problem will be only on the first choice. I hope that the friendship/rivarly path is interesting even without romance.

Totally glad, otherwise every one of my playthroughs I would have skipped any romance subplot altogether. At least there are good LIs in this game, with Merrill. Perhaps if you can really straighten out Isabella's manipulative tendencies, she could end up as an alright 2nd place as well. A pretty stark contrast from last game, which was a choice between annoying good girl, or REALLY annoying bad girl.

Seriously, who complains that much about going out of your way to help others? And WHO cares about shoes and religion so much? Creators...

Yeah not to hate or anything but Morrigan wasn't really high on my list of characters in Origins. I hated her as a love interest, she was just so abrasive and hated anything I did that was nice. I mean I can understand a little of that, but I could have saved a puppy and she would have disaproved. :D

And while I chose Leliana for a majority of my playthroughs she was slightly annoying too afterwhile. I can only take so much maker stuff before it begins to loop.

I hope for this too in both instance...as in multiple playthroughs I will test both paths...especially since it seems it may be the difference between a party bonus and a character bonus or buff in combat...should be quite fun and interesting... :wizard:

I would hope so, in a fan thread.  Posted Image

I anticipate that she'll be LI for a male character if I roll one.  I've played a couple Dalish female PCs who ran after the shem, so it will be interesting to turn it around and see how Mary Kirby envisions a Dalish woman receiving advances from Hawke (or making them, I guess).

I agree. One of the major strengh of this game is the new companion aprroval system. It adds a lot of replayabiliy to the game (if well developed, which I think they did.)

I'm not surprised Merril is a love interest. Mary is writing her and she's never done a romance previously. I wonder what we have in store.

I give this thread my endorsement! Finally a Female Elf romance option. But what'da'ya'know? We're limited to Human-Hawke. Extinction to the Elven race impending.

This is a serious issue that BioWare can no longer ignore! 'em racists bastards! *waves fist in the air*

I'm really eager to see how Merrill's romance is developed on the rivarly path. Maybe in the rivarly path there will be more tension because she arrives to love a human (if, for example, her central focus is the elves situation).

Is there really 2 romances paths, with one being frendship and the other rivalry?

I think so. They can't be the same because the situation of friendship and rivarly is different situation. Howewer I never completely understand how romance will be different, but I remember devs that said that. Laidlaw said something in a video preview.

I'm not sure I recall anything saying for sure that Jowan used Blood Magic to poison the Arl.   I was more under the impression he was given something to poison the Arl with.

Regardless, I don't think blood magic is inherently evil but it would seem you leave yourself potentially more open to become an abomination.    I'm curious as to how it plays out with Merrill

I'm glad she's a romance option, but I can't shake the feeling that the only real outcome for a romance is something tragic.

Did I just jinx it? Damn it.
