Along with Merrill, I highly doubt Anders would be bisexual. He gave no indication of any homosexuality in Awakening, although with his new personality, who's to say.

What I want to know is, are they going to pull the Morrigan card again and make it so I have to chose a romance with her or hook her up with someone else or loose a companion for the end of the game again? I really hated that.

Give the writers a little credit, they're not going to do ANOTHER Dark Ritual.

And you're right, I highly doubt Anders and Merrill will be bisexual. With Merrill, you can sort of tell, (plus Isabela's the bisexual female romance option), and Anders had that shoot lightning at fools line in Awakening. And he doesn't have a completely new personality, he's just more mature and possessed.

No, I didn't mean another Dark Ritual. I mean chosing a specific ending and losing a character again. I don't mind leaving the unchosen party members behind like at the end of Origins and Awakening.

I also felt forced to take that ending for the sake of the plot. And I felt forced to make a male character so I could romance Morrigan for that ending because I wasn't comfortable making someone else do it.

To be honest, I was really expecting our Dalish party member to be Ariane from Witch Hunt. I'm rather glad she isn't though, but I stated it a while ago, that given the ending to Witch Hunt I wouldn't be surprised to see her show up or get mentioned when you get to the Dalish.

Would people have been this excited if it had been the optional Dalish party member from Origins? The one you could take with Merrill? I forget his name.

If Merrill was bi I wouldn't play a Male Hawke unless there was something specific I could only do as a Male. Honestly, it would make me a little sad to know they were all bi.

Either way, people on this board will jump off the Merrill bandwagon, and others will join once the game comes out. I think at this point it's hard to say who we'll really like in the game. Heck, even the Anders fans can't even say they'll like him anymore.

Yeah, this. I think a LOT of people are going to be surprised who their favorites actually are in the next game. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if even Varric lost a lot of people in his boat, as awesome as the folks on that fan thread are. We don't know enough about him. He could choke kittens for fun.

To be frank, I have my money on Anders being a surprise fan favorite. Despite his dark story and all the "But he's such an imbalanced LI!!!!" comments I hear running around, the character appears so deeply ingrained into the larger story (And Hepler is like... an outstanding freaking great woman of a writer), I suspect his thread will balloon once the game comes out. Fenris, I get the impression, will probably be the least liked due to personality quirks. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

I don't think they'll that sort of thing. That sort of thing ranging from making another OGB to an ME2 Suicide Mission. Of course, that's just because Varric HAS to stay alive and it'd be unfair to great characters like Merrill, Fenris and Aveline if they can die and the bloody dwarf can't. Also, we've already got the Bethany/Carver death. Then again, the game spans 10 years, might not seem THAT repetitive.

I just don't like the whole Anders thing because if you didn't take him in Awakening, and one of my characters didn't, it's pretty much like "Too bad, yes you did anyways."

Temporary or Downladable/optional characters I can deal with losing. It's the permanent, and in Morrigan's case, very plot relevant ones I hate giving up. Although as terrible as it would be to watch them repeat the end of ME2, at least there they gave me choices about who I wanted to give up, and if I wanted to at all.

Really? I think Fenris might be the fan favourite. Partly because he's written by the god that is David Gaider, (no offence to other writers, you're all gods and godesses too), and because it can be easy to imagine that his "personality quirks" might make his romance exceedingly interesting and horribly romantic.

Playing Awakening again with Anders and Velanna in my party, Anders makes some comments about how he loves tattoo's on women directed at her. Which makes me wonder if we'll get some more banter with Anders and Merrill, with him mildly hitting on her. :D

Well, I can't say I'm looking at Anders character from that angle. The Devs felt the absolute need to include him. I imagine because he has changed so much from Awakenings, making his (and Justice's) story that much more heartbreaking since a lot of people remember him from the very beginning. I'm more interested in the overarching story, his part in it, and how a relationship could mold it - or make you feel further included. I'm not going to be sour that the writers rewrote certain angles to return him. There is deeper meaning behind it, and I doubt it is to return a popular character to a small percentage of fans that actually downloaded the DLC at the expense of someone else's unhappiness.

Anders, to me, has become DA2's Morrigan & Alistair wrapped into one being. He's going to be a major deciding factor in how the game progresses, and through him we will probably unravel some very deep secrets.

Merrill could also have the same impact, considering she is a Pariah. We may understand the real history behind the Chantry and how the Arlathan elves fell, as well as the mystery surrounding blood magic. We shall see.

I agree. I think we can count MASSIVELY IMPORTANT characters safe this time. (Thank the Maker-which-I-don't-believe-in-and-hate-everything-he-stands-for-the-elf-murdering-thingymajig that Merrill appears to be important with the plot twisting amulet ritual that makes her a Dalish Pariah thing) If anyone else dies, it'll be either Leandra or a non-companion romance option like Kelly Chambers.

But if you didn't take him or Justice (if it is the same Spirit) then the DA2 Anders can't exist in your world, yet Bioware is pretty much saying, "Yes he does, too bad" and that really bugs me.

He does seem to look the part that a lot of screaming girls will fall for. The looks, the voice, the disposition.... But in the greater scheme of the game, my money is that he may pale in comparison to Anders.

Gaider is an outstanding writer, but I think Hepler deserves more credit. She is tremendously talented when it comes to writing psychological, political, and social stories (from what we've seen in Origins, and Anders' snippit). She wrote like... 90% of the dwarves at Orzammar. The dwarven origin stories were among the strongest in the game. Anvil of the Void was among the most shocking and repulsive twists in the story.

I think FemHawke sounds a lot like one of the female elf voices. And I'm pretty sure we don't know Merrill's voice, because I'll either have fallen in love with her even more or declared war on Bioware for such an awful voice for poor poor Merrill. Just hope the Welsh accent is authentic, I have a lot of Welsh relatives and I know a Welsh accent when I hear it.

Like someone said, I think we should give the writers credit that they wont repeat Morrigan's situation again.

That said I am a little worried about this whole friend/rivalry thing. Where the good options might not actually be that good, rather just agreeing with crazy stuff, and the rival options might be the better ones.

Basically what I mean is I hope they don't make it too HARD to like Merrill. Like when I finally meet her in game she's basically this Morrigan type character that hates all the good I do or something like that. Or she's doing something that's obviously not good but if I don't agree with her its automatic hate or something.

I am a little worried about that...

Very few people actually played Awakenings.

And I don't see how DA2 anders couldn't exist in your world. If you don't take him, his adventures may have placed in similar circumstances. Keep in mind that fate seems to play a very big role in DA universe.

It will be explained in DA2. I wouldn't let this issue take away from the overarching story.

Yeah that journey to the Anvil and the stories that revealed themselves on the way there ie: Branka making a broodmother out of one of her house, were pretty repulsive.

And I loved it... it was so well written and a lot heavier than the rest of Origins.

Merrill obviously isn't anything like that.
