Really? I think Fenris might be the fan favourite. Partly because he's written by the god that is David Gaider, (no offence to other writers, you're all gods and godesses too), and because it can be easy to imagine that his "personality quirks" might make his romance exceedingly interesting and horribly romantic.

He does seem to look the part that a lot of screaming girls will fall for. The looks, the voice, the disposition.... But in the greater scheme of the game, my money is that he may pale in comparison to Anders.

Gaider is an outstanding writer, but I think Hepler deserves more credit. She is tremendously talented when it comes to writing psychological, political, and social stories (from what we've seen in Origins, and Anders' snippit). She wrote like... 90% of the dwarves at Orzammar. The dwarven origin stories were among the strongest in the game. Anvil of the Void was among the most shocking and repulsive twists in the story.

While I didn't like the dwarves themselves, I love the dwarvern political system and had no idea 'twas Hepler who created it. She shall be recieving happy thoughts any minute now, all the way from England. And the Anvil Of The Void was indeed shocking, even if I wasn't really sure what was going on in my first playthrough. I only disagree with you on the Origins. I did not like the Dwarvern Origins, just thought they lacked something, but it was probably just the height of my character putting me off. Never actually got past Ostagar with a dwarf.

Yeah that journey to the Anvil and the stories that revealed themselves on the way there ie: Branka making a broodmother out of one of her house, were pretty repulsive.

And I loved it... it was so well written and a lot heavier than the rest of Origins.

I agree that that was probably the best part of the game. EXCEPT for the fact that you had to make a political decision and they gave you next to nothing to help you decide politically. Silly Dwarven politics.

I'm just saying I don't like doing one thing and Bioware says no you did what we say you did. That would be like them all of a sudden saying you did Morrigan's ending. Although that would make people riot.

But if you didn't take him or Justice (if it is the same Spirit) then the DA2 Anders can't exist in your world, yet Bioware is pretty much saying, "Yes he does, too bad" and that really bugs me.

Very few people actually played Awakenings.

And I don't see how DA2 anders couldn't exist in your world. If you don't take him, his adventures may have placed in similar circumstances. Keep in mind that fate seems to play a very big role in DA universe.

It will be explained in DA2. I wouldn't let this issue take away from the overarching story.

if you gave him to the Templars I can't really see it happening. Now if they explained how it still happened if you gave him up, and it wasn't lame as hell, I would be perfectly fine with that,

Anders escaped the Templars seven times before that. I'm sure you handing  him over to the templars wont stop him from doing it an eighth.

I mean come on, that was pretty much part of Anders' character. The guy was practically Houdini.

Yes, but haven't they said he is appearing as a Grey Warden? That part can't happen if I gave him up.

I think he said so himself, they would've branded his a malificar. And with killing all those templars, they'd have done it very quickly.

Well, now, I know why "Paragon of Her Kind" is always my favorite and thus by the order of how them the last treaty quest I went after in origins( also the fact that you get a TON of badass gear for warriors n rogues). That stroyline...the treck through the deep roads( which I loved...but apparently alot of people hated. All I got to say is atleast it wasn't the damn fade)., the music in orzammar( which is my favorite track in origins besides the title music), and most of the all the ENTIRE questline itself...no matter which side of Harrowmount/Bhelen debate you were on( which I chose Bhelen most of the time because of how orzammar came out of it. Though as a noble dwarf I chose Harrowmount so Bhelen could die by my blade of vengenance  . Not to mention, the dwarf warden became paragons afterwords( if you did the DR thing) and in the noble case, you took over the throne after Harrowmount passed away...).

You could be a Paragon if you were a Commoner too. I asked for one of the statues, so I don't know if it happens anyways.

Edit: I will chime in and say that Anders was better than I originally thought. At first I pegged him as an Alistair rip off.

Wow this is totally getting away from Merrill. i think it's my fault, sorry.

I just don't like the whole Anders thing because if you didn't take him in Awakening, and one of my characters didn't, it's pretty much like "Too bad, yes you did anyways."

Well, I can't say I'm looking at Anders character from that angle. The Devs felt the absolute need to include him. I imagine because he has changed so much from Awakenings, making his (and Justice's) story that much more heartbreaking since a lot of people remember him from the very beginning. I'm more interested in the overarching story, his part in it, and how a relationship could mold it - or make you feel further included. I'm not going to be sour that the writers rewrote certain angles to return him. There is deeper meaning behind it, and I doubt it is to return a popular character to a small percentage of fans that actually downloaded the DLC at the expense of someone else's unhappiness.

Anders, to me, has become DA2's Morrigan & Alistair wrapped into one being. He's going to be a major deciding factor in how the game progresses, and through him we will probably unravel some very deep secrets.

Merrill could also have the same impact, considering she is a Pariah. We may understand the real history behind the Chantry and how the Arlathan elves fell, as well as the mystery surrounding blood magic. We shall see.

I find it odd, considering that both Anders and Justice could end up dead even if you conscripted them into the Wardens. Also hoping that we learn more about the Dalish and the fall of the Dales from Merrill.

Anders is a goofy guy like Alistair was, but Anders is definetly not a ripoff, he's a lot more aggressive than Alistair is, less judgmental too, of controversial mage things at least.

I imagine some of the dialoge with Merrill will be her explaining the history of the Elves and the Dales. Seems like it would be pretty interesting too, with a smooth welsh voice.

I'm hoping to get more about that too. Ever since Witch Hunt had Morrigan interacting with a clan, and the twist with the Mirror, and now this thing with Flemeth's Amulet, how does it all fit together????

Bold : Yeah, I know... that playthrough was fun too...as I was a dual-axe wielding warrior...very fun indeed.

Yeah, we have gotten away from Merrill slightly...but that's only because we don't have any new information on her. I really wanna get a look at her skill trees...so we can see which one of the trees she lacks since it appears all the companions will lack atleast one( Bethany lacks the primal tree, all the other-non mages lack a specific weapon tree). So, I'm interested in seeing what she and Anders for that matter lack...

I just hope that they have a decent healing tree. I hated that the revive and group heal required you to take the specialization instead of being in the spells list already. I really hope they don't repeat that.

Flemeth has had a history with the Dalish, as we know from The Stone Throne and Witch Hunt. It's interesting that the Dalish clan turn to someone who looks human, but it doesn't seem that any of them regard her as a shem. That the Dalish were willing to allow her daughter into their camp and trust her to see an important book seems to illustrate that they trust Flemeth. It's a history I'm curious to learn more about, since they don't seem to view her as an antagonist at all. Is their current journey into the Free Marches guided by Flemeth, perhaps? Also wondering if Merrill and her clan ever heard of Hawke's ancestor Parlathan.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but we've been wondering about Merrill's personality but what about how the others will treat her? If I remember correctly from Origins, others, especially other elves, thought the Dalish were savages.

Yeah I'm curious as to which type of magic Merrill will use, it's either going to be healing or primal. And I presume that Anders will be healing since he was a sprit healer in awakening, though with his new buddy on board who knows what he is now.

There did seem to be the stereotype of the Dalish being savages among the city elves, and even for the one city elf who managed to encounter the Dalish clan. I guess it might be difficult for Merrill to adjust to living in one place given how the Dalish don't reside in cities or stay in one location for too long. The "blood writing" would make it obvious that she's a Dalish, and I wonder if Hawke will have an opportunity to address those issues when he or she is conversing with her. Maybe she'll try to share her knowledge about the gods and the old ways with the elves who are living in the Kirkwall Alienage?

This might also change if you played a Dalish and took their boon at the end of the game. At least I hope that gets mentioned, even if this clan has yet to move back to Ferelden.

I'm certain it will be mentioned. The Hinterlands is not that big, though. Even including the ruins of Ostagar, it won't be enough for all the elves, and they already have a semi-permanent settlement on the border of Rivain. Probably won't change their current plans even if it's mentioned.

Wait, you played the demo?
