I know that but what I mean is that being friends means you support what a companion is doing no matter what it is they want, so befriending Merrill could mean that she could attempt to use more blood magic and deal with more demons which might end badly for her despite her good intentions. I really hope this doesn't happen but knowing Bioware something like this could occur as I think Gaider implied that friendship with some companions could end badly for them.

I hope it doesn't happen, either. Given that Merrill is heading into the unknown alone by joining Hawke, I'd rather start a friendship with her than a rivalry. I'd also be a hypocrite since I have every intention of learning and using blood magic.

 

I know that and I plan to learn Blood Magic on my mage which is my 1st playthrough, romance Merrill, and be friends with her but I don't want something bad to happen with the demon she summons just because I don't want her to dislike me a bit. I learned it based on a dev post on a rivalry thread and got the idea from this shot with supposed speech with Merril:

Demonology never turns out well in Thedas - Warden's Keep and A Broken Circle come to mind - so you're probably right that it wouldn't go well for Merrill to keep doing demonology (if it is her that Hawke is talking to).

Well, Anders tried to discuss magic with Velanna in awakening, so i guess it could lead to some interesting banter between them. Maybe Merrill will be able to help with the whole vengence problem? Like Jowan managed to save conor, maybe she could help Anders in a similar way?

To above: It's probably Merrill, but we have no way of knowing for certain yet.

If Anders is referring to Justice specifically, I can see that. Maybe we'll learn more about how the Dalish deal with abominations or what their view is in regards to mages merging with spirits which seems to be common among the seers of Rivain (if Merrill is present).

The conversations are from Awakening too, so I mean being a DLC it didn't have as much variety put into as Origins.
