It's likely because Merrill shows up later in the story and her appearance is tied to some major plot events.

I recall reading somewhere that you can go to the Dalish camp as soon as you reach the Free Marches, though I agree that she is probably tied closely to some major plot events.

I'd definitely want to go get her as soon as possible, the way the Demo played out suggests that as a possibility. We're supposed to take something to her clan, so it would certainly make sense for us to be able to go there ASAP if we're so inclined (in fact it would make sense that we'd have to go there ASAP even if we weren't inclined, since that was our first important task and all). Either way, hopefully we'll get Merrill super quick!

Also bare in mind she's a forced companion, the quest where we'll get her is in the "Main Plot" section in the journal, she's the Morrigan of DA2.

I don't know if you can be absolutely sure about that just yet. Anything can happen really.

It seems to be implied that you can also recruit all of your companions...forced or otherwise( Isabella/Fenris) before you do the deep roads mission( which is probadly the first one) from the journal as well...which is encouraging because that means you can have your main together from the getgo or atleast for the most part of year 1 of the story which is awesome as well. Personally for me... it will be like this recruiting...myself( 2-hander), bethany, aveline, varric, merrill,anders( merrill n anders seem interchangeable because of their 'forced' status), fenris, and finally Isabella (though I may try n grab her before Anders...since he will ride the pine in the majority of my playthroughs)...

Maybe but as of now, Varric, Aveline, Anders and Merrill seem to be the only forced companions.

You can tell your sibling he can't come along with you anymore after you settle in Kirkwall.

We know Isabela and Fenris are optional, Anders is not, you need that map of his in order to go to the deep roads which is a main plot quest, and at the end of the "Long Way Home" quest, Merrill leaves with you for Kirkwall, again a main plot mission.

On a German website, can't seem to find it now but it basically said that before you go on the expedition, your mother will ask you to let your sibling stay because it's dangerous, your sibling will want to go with you and you can decide, it could be in regards to this one mission though, not the whole game, because the siblings have a big part to play in the whole mage/templar conflict.

You could honestly probably ditch Anders once you get what you want. Much like you could ditch Wynn after the Circle Tower.



Not that I care really, I plan to try and get all the party members anyway.

It's a tatoo you select in character creation I believe.

I kinda doubt that. Hawke has it during the Kirkwall video sequences in the demo, if I remember right, but not in the beginning.

My main thing is I think I only saw it when I was all bloody. 

Even in the second part of the demo. Unless I'm just not paying attention.

He also wears it, when he walks into the hanged man and I think the character from the gamespot hands on wore it all the time, too.
