Anyone notice how on main character Dalish elves it seems that they change the facial tattoo around?

What I mean is that with both Velanna and Merrill, we see that they have the usual tattoo, but instead of it being filled in it consists of mostly outlines. I suppose the developers thought this looked better? I'm inclined to agree.

Haven't really focused on her tattoo before, or Velanna's for that matter, but I like it... it spells "I'm a proud dalish elf" all over her face without going overboard.

I think for certain characters they might have had the tatoo filled with black only to discover it might take away a little bit from her facial expressions, or almost block our view of her face. I feel like with the tattoo being outlined instead of filled it allowed us a better view of everything in general while still clearly being there.

On a side note I also think it makes it look a bit more intricate, which is cool.

Yes, you can even see a bit of a difference between the tattoo on the dev diary and the one in the romance screenshot, guess they were still working on it.

That's good summary as it pertains to Merrill and Merrill alone...also of note...apparently Sheryl( one of the devs) 'sqees' just about everytime she hears Merrill speak or say something cute...atleast that's how Mary described her( which being that Eve Myles voices her we can understand why completely now).

P.S. - * on an unrelated but still related to DA 2 note: I just completely paid off my preorder of DA 2 as well as the standard PiggyBack edition of the strategy guide( Thank god for piggy back because Prima's guides lately have been as atricious as the ones Brady Games does).*

I kinda liked Prima's guide for Origins content wise, hated the way it was formatted though... don't know if I'll be getting this one yet.

Probably trying to give the party NPCs a unique look.

I'll also mention I like her overall outfit design. It seems that it was discovered that neck can actually be attractive, so they got rid of the turtleneck like tevinter mage robes that went up to her jaw.

Tali's in her twenties during ME1 and ME2.

Her appearance in ME1 happens while she's on her "coming of age" voyage.

2161 CE - Tali is born.
2183 CE - Mass Effect 1 begins. - Tali is 22 years old at this stage.

"Coming of age" meaning "adulthood" not "puberty".

Yeah, if you zoom on the two pics at the OP you can notice the difference, mainly not the layout but in the dev diary screenshot it looked like the parts on her cheeks were just lines, on the romance on they're more prominent, transparent and angular... maybe because of the close up? after all that dev diary screenshot is way low res, or maybe I'm reading too much into it ~sigh~ I'm bored, finished the demo like 12 times already :?, maybe I'll just delete it to prevent the prologue from becoming so dull in the full version.... oh wait, it already is.

Yes, the point being she's at stage where she's yet to become recognized as qualified adult by her own culture. An equivalent of human almost-18. That she's physically 22 is about as relevant as Liara being 100+

Coming of age, in this context, has nothing to do with phyisical romance or any kind of romance or whatever sexual theme.

As stated in the Wiki:

When quarians of the Migrant Fleet reach young adulthood, they must leave their birth ship and find a new crew to accept them as permanent residents. To prove themselves worthy, they must leave the Migrant Fleet and search the galaxy for something of value. This is offered to their prospective captain as a gift, proving that they will not be a mere burden on the shoestring resources of the ship.

Its not the equivalent of the "age of consent" in humans.

Absolutely; it has to do with reaching mental maturity and responsibility of an adult. Which makes a difference between interacting with said adult, or a person who has yet to mentally grow to attain this stage.

In a quarian context, it has to do with being a contributing member of the flotilla.  Not about adult sexual resonsibility.

Why does it matter how old Tali is in ME1?

You can't romance her till ME2, when she has clearly reached the age of consent for her people (as well as the age of majority).

Similiarl, I suspect, to our friend Merrill.

No, she just has to proof, that she is of use for the Migrant Fleet, which has nothing to do with her being mentally grown up or not.

lol....dude it has nothing to do with that. Its just a proof she can sustain herself inside the Flotilla without burdening the resources of others. The Quarians try to survive at all costs, the coming of age proves one can indeed help the Flotilla in that goal.

It has NOTHING to do with mental maturity or whatever. If anything, it has to do with learning to adapt in a world with partialy hostile views towards Quarians.

And yet Tali herself offers quite a different interpretation of the true purpose of this trip in ME1, when she actually matures up enough to recognize it.
