LOL, I don't care about anything as long as Merrill doesn't relate to Isabela's "OMG I wanna has SEX" kind of thing, I'm sure I'll romance her sometime but not anytime soon

I'm a bit confused by the links made between 'mental maturity' and 'not knowing anything about the world' personally. I understand where you're coming from, although I don't think you need to know a lot about the world (or the universe, in Tali's case) to be mature. Keeping in mind especially that in the dark ages most people didn't venture much more than 4km outside they hometown/city (if you're willing to call them cities, that is). But yeah, that's just my 2 cents.

Hmm well, one of the reviews mentioned Isabela romance is --despite all her talk-- only happening late in the game. So either they went ME route and have it happen late for all characters, or maybe Merrill romance can happen earlier to make it different.

It could be like Zevran's where you could fall into bed with him almost at word one, but the romance didn't resolve until after the Landsmeet.  I'm guessing Merrill will be more like Leliana/ Alistair where you have love talk but it takes a long time to get to the physical intimacy stage.

That's possible and i was thinking it too, but then tbh i don't expect the review people to bother to make such "subtle" distinction. Or not at least mention they did manage to get laid early if that was the case

Merrill may/should struggle with being with a human, she as an elf and one of the few that still retain some of their old magic should work to preserve it, being with a human means she can't have elven children which means that line of keepers stops right there, she should have a conflict between love and duty... and as I like to say, "Who would choose one over the other?"

I agree with what you said expect the whole line of keepers bit. As far as I can tell it's a kind of applied for position and you compete with other like minded elves for the role of Keepers first. Not a kind of hereditary inherited position in other words.

But yeah she should be a little conflicted, since she's been educated from a young age on why the Dalish are seperate from humans and how humans corrupted them in their history. So there would be some inner conflict there.

Oh I know, I didn't want it to sound like some kind of heritage or something, what I meant was magic is in the blood, the son of two mages is a mage, so it'd be normal for keepers to try and keep their lines alive just for the sake of preserving the lore and the magic of the elves... Merrill with Hawke? they just lost one.

While with Hawkes family history and Merrill being a mage it is very possible that any offspring produced would be sensative to magic, that offspring would always be a human so it'd be pretty impossible for them to be accepted into a Dalish society. 

So really I guess Merrill, if she wants to stay with Hawke, would have to choose between where she wants to spend the rest of her life? She might also decide if maybe some of the Dalish customs are far too strict and secular.

Haha, I'd never be able to let her go. 

I do like the idea of conflicting cultures though. I mean there's no way Merrill could just join Hawke and nothing about her culture being strict Elven purists and isolationists would come up. Especially if Hawke tries getting into a relationship with her. She'd definetly would have to rethink her idea of what humans really are. Especially if she starts liking him in return.

Whenever I think of Hawke and Merrill's romance I can't picture a happy ending, whatever path it goes it'll have some drama and sadness...and now I'm listening to "Girl in the mirror" by Britney
