And anyone who says the Keeper specialization is useless is flippin' nuts. I've taken out like five enemies at once with Nature's Vengeance, and Thornblades was one of the coolest-looking spells in the game.

Put the image link between [*img] [/*img] tags... just remove the asteriks.

I simply just dragged the gif Orian Tabris's signature and dropped it into my post and there it is. Works the same for signatures.

That's a lot easier to do if you have another tab in which to put the dragged sig. I will try this.
BOLD: It's a good signature!

Well, I can understand people having different opinions, but Velanna was just way too racist. Let's not forget all the humans she killed. Yes, the darkspawn had tricked her, but she took revenge a little too far, with the mutilated corpes and what not... was that corpse pit in the NW part of Wending Woods her doing? If not, forget I mentioned it... but if so, that's a lot more payback than necessary. This is in addition to all the humans we know she killed. Maybe if the Warden was Dalish (or if the player liked elves), her hostility would be tolerable... but honestly, I do not like being called "shemlin." My Warden didn't do anything towards elves but almost every one you meet is racist as hell. The best part of Awakenings was that it didn't force people you didn't like onto your team. You always had the option to not travel with them.
Alright enough ranting... since this is Merrill's thread, I'll just say that I'm looking forward to traveling with her, provided she is not an insufferable racist. I guess there's no way she won't call Hawke "shemlin" but... one can hope! Personally, I wish there was an elf more like Zevran... one who grew up with humans and doesn't have to be convinced that you aren't the devil in disguise.
Edit: Okay let me just add this... I have no problem with evil companions, well not much anyway. But I prefer companions that I can trust to watch my back, and in that regard, a human-hating elf is pretty low on my list.

IMO, having companions is a two-way street. You watch their back, and they'll watch yours (otherwise they wouldn't be companions). I think of them as a commodity, even if they are useless in the party. As far as the story is concerned, the character won't know when they might need it. (Although my Dalish elf believes she can do anything without other people's help, especially humans)
They each have reasons not to kill you. Morrigan has her thing (plus you need all the help you can get - according to Flemeth), you spared Zevran's life, you gave Nathaniel a second chance, and Velanna just wants her sister back. Velanna seems to calm down once she finds out the truth. (I'm about to meet her for perhaps the last time)
I myself, like to make up reasons for why my characters would take a companion, other than: in case something unexpected happens.
Merrill's not gonna be a shem-hater. She'll be like Leliana in personality, and with an openmindedness (it's a real word ._.) to all peoples. Maybe she'll need some time though.

It featured an Elven archer under Hawke that looked like sort of like that facially and hair-style wise, at least in a sense of having a darker aura.. it looks like for a while they wanted to keep that character's design until they realized at some point how little it fit with the direction that Merrill's character had taken.
Edit:
Ah, near the beginning of this video is what I was talking about:
They're actually not NEARLY as similar as my foggy memory lead me to believe, however I suppose the resemblance was still at least striking enough for me to remember such an obscure tidbit. They definitely had in mind the idea of a Dalish companion, from concept.
It's completely only speculation on my part, but it could be they reached a point where they realized "You know, instead of a character with no previous background, there's a couple of options for characters already established in DA:O that could fit" and it became Merrill retroactively, at which point the design started to become outdated.

You can drag and drop but if that doesn't work, just copy the img source url and past it in your sig.
After that just write [ img ] on one side and [ /img ] on the other without spaces, then click save.

Yeah, I remember we learned that when Bioware first were throwing around the concepts that they wanted DA2 to have one of the first things they did was a concept mock-up animation to kind of settle on a tone and style, we eventually got to see some of it at an point early in Dragon Age 2's announcement.

Hmm I can see where your comming from. The eyes in particular are very similar. It's odd that they changed her image so drastically, while the others characters stayed somewhat the same. I'm sure it all ties into why her concept on the site uses a copy of the head of the elf concept, and why she has no screens on the website. Maybe they changed it because her concept was too similar to Morrigan?

That's not far fetched, they're very reluctant to show footage of Merrill and I can't possibly imagine why, but from where I see it I think they knew that character was gonna be Merrill all along, they were somehow on the fence about the dominant trait of her personality maybe?
One other thought is that their in-game represntation of her didn't match the artwork initially and they decided it was better and ran along with it, hence the very very bland concept art of her on the official site, the released like 3 seconds and we were all "oh how cute" and suddenly their artwork didn't match the way we precieved her character so they copy pasted the elven female head.
I wish Mary or David comes here and gives us a glimpse about her personality, even the short story might be a set up for a major event in her life that'd alter her personality accordingly, that's why I'm taking her personality from there with a grain of salt.

First of all, shemlen isn't really an insult. It's just the elven word for human. Shem is probably an insult, but to be fair to the City Elves, they get called knife ears, their weddings ruined and bridesmaids raped and killed. And the elves who are racist have a right to be. Shianni especially. Need I remind people that the elves are a dying race because of their contact with humans.
I doubt Merrill hates humans. I'm hoping for a bit of Romeo + Juliet, I'm an elf, you're a human, we can't be together, stuff, but most of that's just practical if you think about it. Plus she seems happy enough to see Hawke and Carver in that screenshot.

I'm guessing the reluctance to part with Merrill footage is the BIG TWIST WITH THE AMULET RITUAL thing.
And from what I've heard, she's socially awkward like a turtle. And adorwables!!!

I'm also sort of expecting a Romeo + Juliet type of situation out of the love interest, not exactly ending in death but you know what I mean. Something with her being unsure about this culturaly what with the tensions between their two races.
And yeah, she seems nice enough from that video, she probably is able to tell pretty quickly whether a human is there to cause trouble or not.

Yeah just about every developer who talks about her thinks she's adorable.
And when people mention her being socially awkward I sometimes think of that picture Pseudo drew a while back with Merrill climbing on Isabella biting her arm. Yes, very exaggerated but it's fun to think of her as some kind of animal coming out of the woods sometimes. That'd be her exaggerated personality,
