She may not control them with blood magic, I think she's not the type but she's in Kirkwall for a reason and in all the pre(reviews) so far it's described as "mysterious"... staying in the alienage could be nothing, just an act of familiarity by staying with her kin and race but it could be a lot more... who knows?

the fact she looks like an adolescent is goddamn disturbing BioWare.
Sorry but I can't be happy about some chick, "made up race" or not, that looks like a pre-teen girl. I dont' get off on children.
and I'm surprised so many seem to be.
She looks young, not adolescent. She reminds me of Natalie Portman (whom also looks young, but is 29 years old) or Ellen Page (who is 24 years old). Only adult Dalish elves have face tattoos and can be keepers. She's also taller than Varric (elven children are shorter than dwarven adults). Merrill is definitely a young woman, not a pre-teen girl or a child. By the way, I'm only 19 years old. GO Team Merrill!

I was on the IMDB page for Dragon Age, and it says Gwen Cooper from Torchwood is voicing her. I dunno if it was addressed on this forum but that is an awesome piece of news.
Well Eve Myles who plays Gwen. But yeah, we know, and we're excited.

I know this is an older topic, but anyone else besides myself interested in seeing what Merrill's "home base" will be? I'm just kind of interested in what the place will be like and what kind of interactions we'll have.
I wonder about this too. It's hard to imagine a Dalish elve, who just got "out of the woods" to live in a human city in house of stone.

I remember two city elves' reaction on Velanna: "Wow, she is a dalish! Look, she's even talking! Let's go and ask her for an autograph!". Some take dalish elves for bandits, some do not even believe they exist, some are having dreams about excaping the city and joining dalish clans. Maybe Merrill got lucky and found out that Kirkwall's elves have nothing aginst the dalish?)ViSeirA wrote...
from what I got in Origins they seem to think the Dalish are just bandits or something

Hmm, the new hahren... maybe, I mean if Shianni can become the elder at her age why not Merrill? would be interesting if it happens and how she actually got to be this.

I love the new design for the dalish, it's more likely to match their description from The Stolen Throne, as to how city elves perceive them I think you're right, the one that was prominent in my mind however was Paul from the dalish origin, he said that most of them in the city think dalish elves are bandits and that they sacrifice people for their gods or something
Makes me wonder if we'll see a bigger difference between City Elves and the Dalish in DA2. Like do the city elves wear shoes?

I'd presume they do. The whole point of the City Elves is to show how much they've been assimilated into the human culture, lacking any of their own really.
Merrill living in the Alienage would literally be like an alien coming down and living in your neighborhood.

Yeah, Velanna made a big deal about how City Elves are just elves playing humans.

But every time I see the in-game images of her, I just want to give her a hug.
Man-Points lost: 57.
Worth it.

I hope they do, it'd be most impractical and wrong (lore wise) if they don't, especially that they live amongst humans and even embraced their religion.

Oh, some German website said she'll be based in a small hut in the elven alienage... can't seem to find the link, but I'm 100% sure.
She should move in with Hawke

Since she's been described as socially awkward, I doubt it. At least at first. Maybe as the game goes on, she becomes more assertive and later becomes the Elder. Then again, her magic might hinder her ability to become the Elder. Like most people, City Elves fear magic, right?

I feel at the very least Merrill might become popular with the kids, seeing as she knows all the old Elven tales and stories.
I hate kids, they can't keep their mouths shut <_<, a Dalish mage in the alienage becoming popular would draw a lot of attention from Templars, but I suppose even adult elves would be interested in what she has to say and tell.
@RVonE: I hope she does... eventually.

Maybe she'll just be a hermit in her hut then.
