Which is a shame because CGI Hawke is hot. In game tough looks...bleh.

I'm not really sure either, it just seems to be a bit weird atm. Since Merrill is an elf, she is smaller than a human, so she should be smaller than Isabela. The way the FemHawke kisses her is the right way, and by that I mean that their lips meet perfectly. We want answers Bioware!!

Doesn't Isabela already do that? Wouldn't that be a little redundant?

I also notice her fingers on the other side of Hawke's neck. How would you photoshop that in since you probably wouldn't even be able to see them in the Male-Hawke scene behind his shoulders? It would have to be a mod and we all know that couldn't be done this fast.

 About the Merrill arm thing....

It looks weird because Merrill is insanely skinny.   We've been told multiple times to just wait to see in the game regarding her breasts and etc, because her clothing makes parts of her look bigger than they are.

Seeing her arms around the shoulder or neck of Hawke may just highlight just how slender she really is.   Being that the redesign for elves is specifically to make them look thinner and waifish,  I think it's a good possibility.  Also,  if you look at her jawline and her legs,  she actually appears to have barely any meat on her bones at all.  There are tons of models with bodies just as slender as Merrill's,  though often they are also tall.

For me,  this means that it's the character render that looks odd.  Unlike the last few screenshots,  these actually have defining points of realism.  It could be, that the angle is just recycled for both Hawkes as well.

That being said...if I were straight or inclined to roleplay romancing women at all,  I'd probably go after Merrill. XD  Her romance shots are cute, if these are real.

Theere are things in that pic, like Merril's fingers and some of her arm, that you would not be able to see with a male Hawke in a Femhawke's place, thus could not be simply photshoped within the scene. Actually, it is possible, but the work involved would be very, very tough to pull off and would definitely take a lot of time and searching.

Remember guys, Bioware aren't exactly great at making cutscenes. Clipping, awkward animations and facial expressions, misalignments... all that stuff is par for the course for their cutscenes, especially the romantic ones.

Not really, I mean, that never stopped the DA:O romance companions from sticking their arms up in the air and around the Warden, irrespective of gender and race.

So anyone going to change the gender of their Hawke now that Merrill is possibly available for FemHawke?
Personally I think she and male Hawke will make an awesome pair so I will stick with that for the first time around.

I was initially planning to go with Isabela with my femhawke...that is going to be extremely difficult now

I am torn though between Izzy and Merrill... xD
