So that Merrill, She sure is... an elf.

She was loliconned, not retconned. :P

Right, that works.  :wizard:

I should see the up side, in that elf chicks got goofy looking just as we couldn't play one any more.  Though if I'm honest, elves were pretty ugly in Origins, too.  Was there any attractive elf female anywhere in the game??  Maybe Lanaya.  I always struggled in the character creator to make one that didn't look like butt or like she was 12 (who knew that was supposed to be canon LOL).  I really don't know where they get the notion that elves are supposed to be more attractive to humans.  I'm gonna cling to the idea that Fiona looks like this, though, no matter what the devs say.  :pinched:

I think it will be like that rule about naming stuff in Dragon Age. Sometimes when you first see a character they look a bit wrong.

Yeah like Carver. Same thing here especially with the bad camera angle. I'll wait for more substantive footage.

I am like that with the DA:Origins characters.

Right now I can't imagine them looking, sounding or acting any differently.

I think the devs will always look on the DA2 characters with a different set of eyes to us. They have known and interacted with the characters for a long time.  So it must be wierd for them to hear people say a character looks or sounds wrong.

Attractive elves? Hmm each to their own I suppose- I found Lanaya, Iona, Shiannie, the elf helping the slaver in the Alienage each attractive in their own way (as attractive as a bunch of pixels get anyway).

Its like the most absurd, nonsensical marketing hype term you can come up with that makes no sense at all. Heh, I find it funny that they criticize Origins for looking too whimsical, when poor Merrill looks far more whimsical than anything in Origins ever did.

I keep waiting for the gritty and sexy to show up.   I suppose the latter is supposed to be Isabela falling out of her miniskirt deal.

Ok, I'll shut up.  I'm sorry, Merrill fan thread.  Disappointment exorcised.

I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong.I myself don't see the big deal with bisexual LI's in a game.

Take Leliana for example;if you choose her to be your girl, she's with you the whole time in DA:O.She doesn't go off and find a gf/bf to have on the side. She doesn't suggest you bring someone in the mix for a menage a trois.Granted, you can with Isabella or Zevran, but you do have the option not to.So long as the LI sticks with me and ONLY me, I'm cool.

It would be silly IMO to let's say (if you didn't want to romance a bi character, but still had more than 1 straight LI option).... have 2 straight guys, 2 straight girls, 2 bi characters, 2 gay men and 2 gay women. That's a total of 10 companions that the writers would have to work with. Can you imagine having to write for characters that are basicly there for the sole purpose of romancing but they need a backstory and maybe a hardening quest? That's alot. The dev's are on a budget and they'd much rather spend the bulk of it on improving gameplay.David Gaider said he would like to give us more LI options but even then, not everyone would be pleased with what they get.

If Merrill turns out to be a LI and bisexual, it's no skin off my nose.So long as she's not mean. >.> <.< lol

Perhaps people that loved DAO elves (humans-with-pointy-ears) do so because of the LOTR resemblance. Those do not even have the pointy ears in the books(newer it was mentioned as a elven detail), they were just beautiful, wise, immortal humans.

And I love Merril. It looks like elves really have a different skeleton from the humans. Hope that their animations are different too. Thank you BioWare.

In the interest of science I did a Merrill-Lanaya comparison:

I suppose Merrill does look pretty... young*. You can see that some of the elves in DAO had similarly prominent ears, though.

*Well, maybe. I could see her not being any younger than Lanaya. She's just a different person.

The slender body is really the only major difference.

Actually only PC elves have  such a small, close-to-head ears  and that was because of the helms and clipping issue.  Even Zevran`s, which were pretty small had a clipping issue with the helmets.

She might not be. If they're following the DA:O format, there's 4 love interests and 2 of them are bi. Isabela is almost certainly a bisexual love interest in DA2, so Merrill may not be. But it's a different game, so who knows.

I know... but a girl can dream, right? Pretty please Bioware?

I will be floored if all of a sudden Isabela isn't the bi LI.

The larger eyes and flatter face/nose is a pretty big difference too. Nevermind that she apparently got different tatoos.

I think part of it is that the staff she has looks enormous too; which combined with her non existant shoulders and really long neck, makes her seem dwarf sized.

Wai hai thur, Merrill. Wanna come in my tent? I gots candy. In all seriousness, however, I'm enjoying the new Dalish aesthetic. They're bird-boned, lithe, like you'd imagine wandering hunters to look like. And by the appearance of the screenshot, the others seem to be on a hillock or something, and Merrill is walking up the incline. So naturally the perspective is going to make her look smaller juxtaposed to the others.

Well, the facial features could simply vary from character to character. Some may simply have bigger eyes than others.

The staff does look oversized though. Kind of like how greatswords looked on female elves in Origins.

That comparison just reminds me how awfully stupid and fanservice-y the Keeper's Robes looked like Awakenings.

Agree on the staff/eyes/shoulders. I really want to see some other female elves in comparison...

Well done!
I already like her although i hoped to get the female elf archer with the undercut haircut ...

Elves should look more fragile und elegant than humans (to my mind)

What's wrong with having every LI be bisexual? Many psychologists, going back to Kinsey, believe that essentially everyone is bisexual to some extent, that being 100% straight or gay is statistically abnormal.

Besides which, every LI being available to both genders would make more people happy, not less. If players are "afraid" of having an NPC hit on them (as apparently many straight players complained about Zevran) then why not have "sexual orientation" be something you set at character creation, with the result that only NPCs of the appropriate gender(s) flirt with the PC?

Everyone being bisexual would kill immersion for me. Sorry to the DA:O players putting that idea forth. I just couldn't buy it. Maybe in Antiva, or something, if it was a Crow story, but not everywhere.

It's an issue with suspension of disbelief.

Stephanie Parker might be a good fit for Merrill's new voice actress. She's a Welsh actress.

The only thing that bothers me is Merrill's skin complextion is rather greenish.  It just looks sickly and alien-like

Could just be the surroundings/lighting is making it look that way though, and itll be different otherwise

Yet it's believable that every LI in a BioWare game is attracted to the PC, regardless of personality or appearance? Particularly in Origins, where giving someone enough Gifts made them fall in love with you no matter what?
It's not so much "make every NPC bisexual", but rather, "make every LI attracted to the PC regardless of which gender I pick".
Therefore, if I play MaleHawke, Merrill is straight. If I play FemHawke, she's a lesbian. Why would this bother you? It's equal access for people of all sexualities. As a bisexual male, I feel very left out - Zevran was not even a "romance", and there is nothing at all for me in the ME series except girls.

Edit: Nevermind... She hung herself. Well, there goes that theory. Sorry folks.
