What? Seriously? ...I hope you're joking. She's so young!

I looked her up so I could hear what she sounded like and came accross this

I can't believe the wiki has been updated with pictures and quotes already.

The wiki was updated about Herren (((uh, spoilers perhaps?))) not being a Desire Demon in the canon universe just a few minutes after it was confirmed by David Gaider.

I don't mind having this debate per se, but I don't want to derail this thread.

So, what does everyone think? Is Merrill a required party member?

I think he means if we can choose for her to follow Hawke.

Eh, what do you mean?

Like Alistair, for instance. Contrast with Zevran/Leliana.

First thought: man, Merrill is REALLY tiny and I'm not sure how I feel about this new direction for female elves, though this is just a small glimpse.

After reading this thread: I will defend these new elves to the death because the whiners are so ... whiney about it :|

Oh, I get it, a party member that will join you no matter what and that you can't kick out of the party (at least until a certain point).

Eh, not sure really. Leaning towards no.

Haven't read any other post but...

I'm a big fan of the new elf look because it doesn't look human, like many previewers and a few people on the forums I'd forget I would be playing an elf if I had hair over my character's ears. The ears were roughly the only thing that made them stand out greatly, otherwise you could pass them off as human. Hell, I thought Iona was a human until I talked with her in the study.

I'm happy Elves aren't simply the stereotypical "super attractive human" stereotype. If some people will compare them to children, who cares? We have people claiming people who want to romance dwarves are pedophiles and people who romance aliens in ME are into beastiality.

As far as Merrill goes, I'm assuming she'll be the little sister-esque character, though I might be wrong. Wasn't that interested in an elf romance (race doesn't matter, personality does it for me) though a lot of people wanted it, so IF (pretty big if) she is a romance then I hope it'll stop those types of complaints.

You know that heart-squeezy feeling you get when you see a basket of kittens or something?  Yeah, that's exactly what I felt when I saw this little elf.  She is unbelievably precious.  Seriously, I have never seen anything so damn adorable in my life.

Yes! This! You guys have no idea how cute Merrill is. I work here and and I still squee when she says things I haven't heard.

There's a lot of this in the writer pit:

Merrill (in-game): (something unbelievably cute)
Sheryl: GIGGLESQUEE!!!!! SO CUTE!!!
Mary: Hee hee.
Sheryl: She's so adorable I love her and want to hug her omgIcan'tbelievehowadorablesheisCAN-I-NOM-HER-HEAD?!
Mary: ... No.

This isn't meant to be a slight or anything, but how does one who acts like this on the internet get taken seriously as a writer? I have not heard so many instances of "squee" and "nom" from women on the 'net since I was early teens. When someone basically says that they behave in a manner similar to a teenager in real life, my faith in their ability to actually write a good story or character diminishes greatly. I really wish the writing team would exhibit Obsidian's level of professionalism in this case, as it reflects better on a title that I -want- to like as I have enjoyed the developers' past work.

I really hope this is not indicative of a shift in the quality of BioWare's future games.

I completely disagree with you in every possible level. Good writers need good imaginations, and who have better imagination than kids? So a slightly childish writer is not exactly a bad thing.

Remember, a childish person does not mean an imature person, sometimes people just like coloring the world more to their tastes, even if they aknowledge the reality is not as pretty.

I cannot tell if this is a counter-troll or something, but children also think words such as "poop" and "fart" are on the same level of comedy as George Carlin or [insert your favorite comedian here]. There is certainly a time for childishness and playfulness. It is not in front of the people that you are supposed to be convincing to buy your product, and such openness when it comes to puerile behavior suggests either A) an unhealthy relationship with the consumer or B) that you are, in actuality, someone who still finds that terminology to be sooo kawaii~ and endearing. I am not damning their ability so much as I am saying that it casts the writer in the same light as teenage girls who still write anime fanfic. I can get loud and silly, but not in front of customers or complete strangers. Showing that you are not a robot/a normal human being is great, but acting like you are far younger than your age is somewhat disturbing when you are describing a product you are currently making. Get what I am saying?

Also, Ramon, you like me less and less? Are we acquainted or something? I prefer people who act professionally in the public forum just as I prefer to dress my best when going to a formal event. It is supposed to be a courtship of the public, not a slumber party. I hold myself up to the same standards that I hold anyone else, and am not targeting them "unfairly." I am just stating a concern, and if they are truly secure with how they act then it will probably go right past their head anyways. They have probably heard far worse criticism in their time.

Cool story bro.

I was answering responses to my posts. Is this a sin, and shall I flog myself now or later for my transgressions?

Nobody cares about your childish rant, feel free to create your own thread instead of trying to hijack another one to serve your own purposes or quiet down.

And you can flog yourself right now.

Ah, very interesting then that the countless others who responded to my post did not get the same notification. Perhaps this should be told to them, as well, for their benefit.

So I do not get further warning: And this character, as has been voiced before, looks incredibly young. Her face is incredibly angular as well, especially down the middle. I would not say it is exactly inspiring design but it is tolerable.

EDIT: And they continue to respond! So angry.

She was pretty bossy in DA Origins. I bet she'll be like Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter books/movies.

Say, Emma Watson isn't Welsh, is she?
