Yet it's believable that every LI in a BioWare game is attracted to the PC, regardless of personality or appearance? Particularly in Origins, where giving someone enough Gifts made them fall in love with you no matter what?
It's not so much "make every NPC bisexual", but rather, "make every LI attracted to the PC regardless of which gender I pick".
Therefore, if I play MaleHawke, Merrill is straight. If I play FemHawke, she's a lesbian. Why would this bother you? It's equal access for people of all sexualities. As a bisexual male, I feel very left out - Zevran was not even a "romance", and there is nothing at all for me in the ME series except girls.

I have stated several times that Bioware games tend to make you "awesome for the sake of being awesome, and that it was foolish that only people can fall for you, the main character, because you are in fact, that awesome" several times on these boards.  I don't like that either.

Like I've stated a million times before, NPC's that are not aligned with your party in the first place should be romancable, and you should be able to pick up those people, along with a prealigned amount of party members.  

But sexuality doesn't work the way some of you prescribe, and I don't think all characters should be made bisexual for ease of use.

Yeah I get the feeling that will be the reserved but strong willed type, Isabela the feisty go-getter and Merrill will sort of be naive and you'll kind of teach her about human society and interaction maybe?

I am really loving the changes they made to the elves. Fenris has been my number one obsession  but purely based on cute factor Merrill has taken the lead, geez she is adorable can't wait for her "official" reveal with more screenshots and info. Just looking at her pic could her cuteness even rival that of Boo from Monster's Inc, looks like it could..



Wondering even if she not an LI that my Fem Hawke would enjoy a Carver/ Merrill romance since companions are able to have their own relationships..

I don't believethey made another character that lost her husband. Howewer, if she didn't have a husband, she'll be probably a virgin. If I remember well, in DAO Cammen (the elfs you help to marry with his love) said that generally dalish don't have sex before the marriage. If that's true, Merril is probably a virgin, because I don't think she has or had an husband. Of course there's the possibility she's the rebel type.

W00t! just finished reading 32 pages full of some interesting and radical notions, well to start I'll lay down my own opinion first, from the very very brief look at Merrill in the dev diary I'd say I really dig the new general look of elves in DA2 (if how Merrill looks is a general template).

She doesn't look very young, she IS young and for all we know Dalish elves live longer than City Elves or Humans so they might look different at the same stages of age than Humans, also she is cute I'll give her that but being cute doesn't mean she can't scratch.... eh well that might be understood the wrong way, well to make a point anyone can check the character Arcia from Chaos Legion, she's what I might call cute but at the same time she was a strong and useful character in the story.

And what this thread's lacking is fanart... as soon as the first bits of fanart start to appear all the "haters" are gonna leave this thread, too bad that every time I try to draw or sketch a humanoid being I end up drawing a stick, so I searched deviantart for some Merrill sketches and found these two by bukittyan based on her looks from Origins:

Did they change Merrill's eyes colour from blue to yellow? As I look upon most of companions, other characters (also from Origins) and Hawke from the videos I have an impression most of them have this yellow eyecolour, strange. It's nice but it's a little odd I think ...or maybe it's just me.

I love the new deisgn for elves. Sure, that single screenshot of Merril isn't enough to judge how it looks ingame, but concept art was promising.



And I'm happy to see Merril again, especially as a companion. Will be interesting to see what she's like.



Will having Merril as a companion allow us to hear about the Dalish Warden from Origins, especially if we import his/her save into DA2? I'd love to hear other character recount their experience with the Warden and to hear their impression of him/her.

I really like what I've seen and read so far regarding Merrill. She definitely has the potential to be the best character in the game, based on what little we know so far. I like the new and improved look of the elves, it gives them a certain uniqueness that they didn't have in DAO, and I definitely agree with almost everybody else, that Merrill's look is very cute . Of course we don't know yet who exactly is and isn't an LI yet, but I definitely like the idea of having the choice of Isabella or Merrill, and possibly Aveiline also, each are so different and would be unique and compelling choices in their own way, choosing between them would be very pleasant and very difficult indeed (and yes, she should be an LI for any Hawke). Right now, knowing what little I know of each of them, I'd most likely go with Merrill, as she really seems awesome so far. Keep up the great work Bioware, this is a very unexpectedly awesome new character, maybe the best one of them all!

Her features seem rather disproportionate.  She has D cup breasts (as per standard it seems) and her mage staff has more girth then her arms!  

Other then that she is as cute as a button
