They have a banter about Aveline's lack of nickname.
That's what I was referencing. I was wondering if there's a follow up banter or something, but I guess not.
I like Kitten more than Daisey, but I also like Merrill's relationship with Isabela more than hers with Varric, so that's probably why.

Merrill's relationship with Isabela and Varric is very cute as they fit the good-hearted rogue mold. Merrill's relationship with Anders is more interesting because while she might be innocent, Merrill seems to have a much more practical and sober view of mages, spirits, and magic. It's one of the few relationships where she comes off as a the more mature one.
I don't usually have them both in my party, but when I do, and when they talk to one another, I think they're both kind of wrong.

I don't think any of the companions are completely right when it comes to their... politics, I guess. Varric and Isabela are off the hook because they aren't attached to an ideal.ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...

Same for me. The voice acting, especially in those moments, was so amazingLuvinn wrote...

Yes, the Merrill romace is pretty sweet. The way she blurts out "I LOVE YOU! Oh, I propably shouldn't have said that, should I? I always say the stupidest things. (and then, very playfully) Uh-oh." made me grin from ear to ear.
Ha, it was the same thing for me. I couldn't help but smile when she did that. Actually, just about every awkward, cute/adorable line she says makes me smile.

All because a demon wanted to punk her out and be free to wreak havoc on Thedas. I hate that he tries to trick you when you "defeat him" and Marethari is all "lets go back to camp and celebrate". Alas the Murder Knife says 'Nay'.Maria Caliban wrote...
Poor Merrill. Don't fit in among the alienage, certainly doesn't fit into Hightown, and can't go home. All for... an ideal? A dream? A sense of duty and the hope she could make a difference?

But really, in her mind, that mirror became worth everything. It killed her clanmate but she wanted to clean it and put it back together because... what? If she'd managed it, her clan wouldn't take her back.
I wanted to say, "Hey, instead of the mirror lets go exploring elven ruins and plunder your people's lost artifacts that aren't broken! I'm sure we'll find something horribly dangerous if we look long enough for you."

I'd say it's because she's a mage in dalish in a setting where both of those lead to suck.

I think on the end she finally realized how ridiculous it was that she became so absorbed into the mirror. So afterwards she started focusing on herself and her own happiness, thankfully.

I have a feeling that it auto assumes that the clan survived as well, since she's talking about how the Keeper is gone yet she mentions how her clan would kill her if she ever came back now. I know you can avoid killing them by basically taking responsibility for Merrill. If you do that they'll remember that she was first once, and that Merathari really did care about her. So then they'll essentially tell you to get lost.

Something like "Yes we lost our closest friends and loved ones, but it strengthen our own love."
(The "comfort scene" with Merrill after Leandras death was very, very sweet)
And when I found that Dalish ring as a gift I thought to myself: "Time to start my own family"
Unfortunately Bioware had other plans.

Yeah me too, kinda, the fact that the whole romance thing is bugged since questioning beliefs accidentally happens when it's not supposed to doesn't help that. I was very confused when I came in there to do teh quest but she was all crying about how everyone died and all... I was like What? but then I read on teh forums that it's supposed to be after the whole Demon-finding-keeper-sacrificing-herself-dalish-clan-massacre quest.MasterSamson88 wrote...
I was also looking for a little bit more romance plot in act 3. But it seemed like a lot of that wasn't really there. It kind of left me wanting more.

It basically results in her companion quest ending on a flat note.

That confused me to, not the part you mentioned, but the fact that the mirror was still there and she still talked about completeing it(I didn't give her the carving thing to finish it in the one quest) So I don't understand why she's still obsessed with it, being as she seemed to realize that completeing the mirror was a bad idea and that it's caused her to lose a lot of things. Also after the crying cutscene, the mirror disapeared.SnakeHelah wrote...

Yeah, she also broke the mirror in my rival relationship with her. And yet in the next scene she wants to figure out why it's not working, and wants to complete it????
I hope it gets fixed.

At first, I started to romance Isabella, had the fling, but really didn't feel too much attachment to her. Being the cause of the incident with the Qunari *and* bailing with the relic and not returning didn't help her cause.
Merrill though was sweet in her naivety. Exploring a world unfamiliar to her, seeing the Alienage but not really understanding what it meant. A stranger in a strange land.
Merrill's personal quest really showed how her obsession with the mirror exposed her to a pride demon's corrupted influence, filling her mind with bringing back lost knowledge to the Dalish, making her seem worthly in the eyes of her clan as the first and soon to be Keeper. Little did she realize that the demon was going to use her as his vessel in the real world.
After dealing with Marethari's poor choice of soul containment, my conversation path I took resulted in the unfortunate the destruction of the clan. She was so heartbroken afterwards it hurt to watch it unfold.
The romance scene was beautifully done, a tender moment in a chaotic world.
Her beautiful white armor made her angelic, no longer associated with the earthy colors of the Dalish, shining brightly wherever she went as the companion to the Champion of Kirkwall.
I found myself in battles with her in real-time where I would see her surrounded by enemies and I would rush over to her to help fend them off. I knew that she could handle herself most of the time, but I felt compelled by her character to protect her during fights.
When Anders destroyed the Chantry and forced me to choose a side, I sided with the mages. Beyond Bethany being part of the circle in my playthrough and standing up for family, Merrill's plea to spare the mages lives reinforced my decision. (I saw what happened when you pick the templar option and the dissapointment in her voice as she begrudging accepted my point of view would have crushed my character)
The final words before the ending battle sequences were again simplistic but powerful. I believe in you and love you with a final kiss.
I was very satisfied with the story. Kudos to Bioware - I know how hard it can be to try to flesh out all these characters with backstory and different conversation options - they did well with Merrill. I hope to see some sort of expansion after the final battle with Meredith so we can see what happened in the aftermath and I can spend some more time with my Dalish angel.

I dont want to see Merrill pushed to the side and forced to be an NPC.
