Yeah the romance ending was epic! I hope bioware doesn't screw it up like they did in ME2.

I dont want to see Merrill pushed to the side and forced to be an NPC.

Yeah that was kinda lame.

In the end though Bioware may have learned something from that. Just maybe.  There were an aweful lot of fans who were kind of annoyed at them at least. So here's hoping.

Does this make me a real Merrill fan?

Hah, I remember really liking that smile in the romance scene.

Really the way she looks so happy during the entire thing is sweet I think.

I apparently have to do the Rival romance next though.
My friend told me that its so interesting.

Find it hard to be mean to her.

Yeah, I didn't like the rivalmance too much. She basically beats herself up the whole time in front of Hawke. Kinda hard to watch I think. XD

I much prefer her happy and confident.

I think the drama adds to it though!

I find it hard to be mean to her. Maybe it's because out of all the companions she seems to so desperately need Hawke.

That's one reason why I always find myself romancing her.  Out of the entire party she seems to be the one who has no one to really go back to.

One of the things I noticed about the Anders, Fenris, and Merrill romances is that they all so alone. They really don't have anyone but Hawke to look out for them. Where as Isabella seems perfectly content being Isabella.

I've almost completed a play through at the moment, and can never seem to get friendship points with Merrill. So far I've given her both gifts, and explored all options only to receive rivalry points from each. I did not give her the Eluvian crafting tool, but even before that whenever I had a convo with her even as I re-loaded to explore every option I can only seem to get rivalry points. I was playing as a smart-ass warrior, and am about to start a red-line mage so maybe that will improve things. But even then, her act 3 quest bugged out on me (as it seems to for many) and even with re-spec I could never get her outfit to change despite finding all the possible upgrades. I know the outfit it a bug, but at this point I'm wondering if her interactions were bugged for me as well becuase I could literally never get her (even pre-Eluvian) to gain friendship points with me.

Not giving her the tool locks her into the rivalry path. Once a companion gains their passive their locked there for the rest of the game.

Even the most hateful and mean spirited Hawke I could ever create still wouldn't be able to be mean to Merrill. She's just too damn adorable to be mean to.

Not true, I didn't give it to her, and after the glitched conversation, the one immidiatly after that had her saying that not finishing it was the right thing, that it's made her lose a lot of things, of course, this doesn't make sense with the rest of her romance.

Just curious, does she give up on the mirror even if you let her keep the tool? What changes if you let her have it besides her friendship/rivalry paths? What does she do differently?

Even if you let her keep the tool at the end of her companion quest she'll finally give up on the mirror. Basically she'll keep using the tool, then decide she needs to go to sundermount for one  more thing.

Her romance is glitched, it assumes you gave it to her, no matter what, you'll get one scene that was supposed to happen after it, but after that, it goes as if you gave it to her, also, I think her "Questioning Beliefs" quest happens to early or something.

Great! Now I can go the friendship path in her romance playthrough without fear that she will turn into a mirror-obsessed crazy-person or the resulting guilt that would accompany that. My MaleMageHawke is more... open-minded about magic than most of my other Hawkes. I don't think anyone else would be willing to let her keep the blasted tool.

I had the strangest idea of a pregnant Merrill walking around Kirkwall with her swollen belly still complaining about the stone and lack of shoes.

There was a random conversation between Aveline and Merrill. I don't remember the exact conversation but Aveline asks her how she feels about Hawke and she simply says, "I love Hawke." or something like that. I was sort of taken but how absolute her love is. Probably one of the better written romances in a BW game IMO.

I believe Aveline was asking her why she, who basically had nothing to do with the conflict in Kirkwall, was even sticking around for it. Her answer is as you said.

David Gaider posted this in another thread(referencing the Act 3 Merrill bug).

"I heard QA and Tech Design talking about this today. They're very much aware of it, though I have no other information at the moment."

I take this as a reason to be optimistic they'll fix the problem.

Changing topics, does Mama Hawke ever say anything about the Merrill romance?

Maybe there's is some way to make it happen, but it didn't in my first pt (still Act I in the 2nd pt). I was really hoping for some comment on this from her. If anyone has come across a dialogue-option to make it happen, I'd like to know.

I think she'd approve, though or at least wouldn't be against it. Living with an elf as a noble is still a very bold move and I would've liked to see some of the other nobles coming by to express their ... opinion - wouldn't have matter of course, but I think it would've been fun =]
