Could just be the surroundings/lighting is making it look that way though, and itll be different otherwise

Suspect that's just the lighting in the area making her appear this way -- the staff on her back also has this greenish hue, as does everything around, pretty much.

edit: a quick tweak to bring colours closer to neutral

By a human standards maybe...but she is not human. She is an elf a different humanoid species who happen to have some characteristics that look like those of human children (huge eyes, slight frame). It dos not make her equivalent of  human child thought.

Question folks - and I did some brief scanning: There was the post from David Gaider in the Dev Diary thread confirmed that yes, that Elf is Merrill. However, has there been any confirmation yet that Merrill is a companion?

Just because that's her and the picture in Varric's book looks like her is all fine and good, but do we have a concrete "Yes she is a companion yet?"

As far as I'm aware, no, there hs been no dev comment one way or the other. A lot fo people are goign on that German preview that also said Fenris was a mage (which the devs *did* refute). People are generally reading the lack of overt refutation as a tacit confirmation.

@SteveGarbage   I believe the German Preview did state that Merrill is a companion, the devs have yet to deny or confirm it..

There's no dev that came straight up and said: "Yes, Merrill is a companion" but all of them including Mary talk about her as such, plus we got that info from the magazine, either we get a reveal soon or some dev will confirm it here but as far a I'm concerned it's pretty much given.

Okay, so she's starting to grow on me and stuff. Assuming that her bust is indeed smaller. No reason for the devs to lie to us, no?

The only thing I fear about her (possible) LI status is that unless Hawke's VA *cough*Boulton*cough* puts some proper emotion into his lines, the romance is going to be super creepy.

Well, I can't judge about her looks right now, just from one photo, I have to see a video or something. I honestly don't think there will be much redesigning, since it's only 2 months left and all. So we should have to settle for what we see now. I admit she does look cute, but her... boobs... look certainly oversized. Hah.

So guys I've tried to get a better screencap of her face, I ended up capturing several frames from the diary then chose one where she wasn't speaking to get a better look at her face, then I cropped it and sharpened it a bit.



Up close she doesn't look as young as some of you think, also I think she looks quite beautiful from this angle... apart from the clipping Xewaka mentioned she looks perfect

Now, let's hope that her personality reflects that. I totally want a clever and sophisticated character (like what she seemed to be in Origins, analyzing event and wanting to explore more) and not just a cute one. She is, however, INCREDIBLY cute.

If this is indeed the case and she is a LI....It would truly be awesome.

Aye (she doesn't look as young there), that shot is a lot better, still has the proportions of an adolescent with her eyes and some of the bone structure but meh guess she can pass for 18ish, but I still instinctively dislike the character aesthetically.

We don't know for certain she's an LI yet (though it does seem like it...). Remember that Mary wrote cool companions in DAO too (Sten and Loghain), neither of which were romanceable - despite the former's rather large fanbase. Besides, for all we know, she could be like this:

Hawke: So, tell me about your people, Merril.
Merrill: No.
Hawke: Why not?
Merrill: People are not simple, they can't be summarized for easy reference, like 'the humans are a selfish and greedy people who excel at destroying foreign civilizations and creating hordes of murderous hive-minded monsters bent on destroying the world'.
Hawke: Okay, let's drop this.
Merrill: Good. By the way, where's the cake?
Hawke: What?
Merrill: Where's the cake? I was told there would be cake.
Hawke: There - uh - is no cake.
Merrill: Then...the cake is a lie?
Hawke: Yeah.
Merrill: *wacks Hawke to death with her log baseball bat staff and then returns to looking innocently cute.*

And if she was like that, she'd probably have Sten's VA too. You know this to be true
