I don't think Mama Hawke would have had a problem with it.Systemlord Baal wrote...

Changing topics, does Mama Hawke ever say anything about the Merrill romance?
I think she'd approve, though or at least wouldn't be against it. Living with an elf as a noble is still a very bold move and I would've liked to see some of the other nobles coming by to express their ... opinion - wouldn't have matter of course, but I think it would've been fun
I mean she basically gave up everything in Kirkwall to be with the man she loved.

I know mama Hawke mentions Fenris if you romance him, so maybe there is one for Merrill too.

basically, the rivalmance is just her yelling at you at her house, kicking you out, then coming to your place to apologize, ending with sexy!time

from what i gathered in my rivalmance playthrough w/merrill, it was because i was trying to "save" her from getting killed by blood magic, and she doesn't want to be saved from her mistakes.

You don't need to be mean. You can have a huge friendship path with her, and still get the rival romance. You automatically become a rival if you don't give her what she wants. And considering what happened, you have every reason to do so. The result of this is that she'll smash the mirror, claiming it's something she should have done a long time ago. And Hawke will tell her whatever happens, they'll do it together.

Ms. Hawke comments on your relationship with Merrill at about the point in the game where she decides she might want to look for a suitor. She seems to imply that it would be prudent to move out to leave more room for you two.
At any rate, I don't know if I could bear to run through a playthrough where I disagree with her. She was right and nobody would listen to her. They wanted to abandon their history and lose who they were: and that, indeed, was exactly what happened. She could have warned them. As Merrill says in a banter with Aveline: "oh, and I'm the stupid one?"

Just so I'm sure, the quest line where she want's to finish the mirror and you go back to the Dalish camp to find her demon is the regular romance? Or does that happen anyway? I'm VERY confused, the romance is contradicting itself on my play through. I never gave her the carving tool to finish the mirror, I got the cutscene where she yelled at me to leave, she talks about it messing her life up, then it goes back onto her trying to finish the mirror for no reason, WTF?
It's a bug. I hate it too.

It also mentions how Hawke and the Seneschal have recieved tons of angry letters over this, none of which were ever replied to.

After she moves in it does mention in her codex that Merrill turned just about everyone's head in Hightown. Due to her penchent for walking around barefoot, picking flowers from peoples gardens, and cooing their attack dogs. Not only that but she was living with Hawke not as a servant but as an actual partner more or less.

I hadn't really read the codex too much yet. That's awesome though. I'll have to check it out later in more detail.

That scene about it messing up her life plays no matter what. It's bugged. Her quest looks like it's supposed to have outcomes that aren't disastrous, but because this endquest cutscene plays early, there's no way to see the "good" resolutions of her quest no matter what you do. Heck, you can't even see the bad resolution because it plays before you can ever start the quest.
I hope they fix it. For now, I followed the chain of events that lead to the worst outcome because that's what we're stuck with anyway, but if a patch fixes it, I'll certainly see what can be done to cause a better outcome.

I notice Leandra never refers to Merrill by name. Is her comment basically a generic response that she gives if you're in a relationship with Merrill or Fenris?

Good. I' glad Hawke and Merrill made people notice that elves and humans can live as equals. Too bad we didn't get any of those letters on our writing desk in Act 3. That would have been a fun read.
