Can someone repost the Merrill - After Deep Roads codex entry? With the 'mourning' quest getting borked poor Merrill is the only companion that doesn't get updated in my journal. :/

I thought Merrill would go through the game annoying me with her massive lack of "common sense" and knowledge of how humans communicate, however it turned out that it was just one of the things that I liked about her. Her naiivity in the ways of humanity compared to her undying wish to save her people really appealed to me. Definitely the best companion.

Oh Merrill.....so wonderful, always getting me to do things against my better judgment and not question it or feel bad about it or think its a bad idea at the same time *glares at Anders*

The codex also mentions that Hawke and the Seneschal have recieved tons of angry letters from the more stuck up citizens of Hightown about Merrill living up there.

Good. I' glad Hawke and Merrill made people notice that elves and humans can live as equals. Too bad we didn't get any of those letters on our writing desk in Act 3. That would have been a fun read. :D

It'd be hilarious to see some strongly worded letter make it to hawke. I can see it now.

That kind of comment in this thread will get you murdered then dismembered.

And how can you hate those eyes?

As far as I know Marethari dies no matter what you do. It's a matter of whether or not the entire clan turns on you.

Mm. Well, that's still a significant difference. Obviously, you can still make that choice right now, but I didn't want to given that the bugged cutscene didn't reflect that (I think?).

Now now, it's better to use him in a blood magic ritual. Just think: W.W.M.D.?

I think the bugged cutscene automatically assumes that the clan survived really.

Especially since she mentions that her people might kill her if she ever goes back.

Does it? I tried not to listen to it to avoid spoiling myself. If you're right, I'll have to replay the quest... hopefully I have an autosave.

Well mostly because she just talks about how Marethari died. She makes no mention of the clan's death which I presume she would since the two outcomes are pretty incredibly different and if they all died she'd be pretty traumatized. Plus like I said, she mentioned the clan would kill her if she ever came back.

Is there a way to save the Keeper?

In the bugged cutscene thats supposed to come after her quest, it sounds like the Keeper and clan both lived and left Sundermount.

Nope. She ends up possessed, and dead regardless of whether you pursue the Rival, or Friendly storyline.

Then what was she talking about in that bugged cutscene?:?

Probably the fact that the Keeper is dead, and she's trying to understand why she did it. ><

she mentions that they SHOULD have moved on by now, but when you go there, it's revealed that they didn't.

Here's my favorite cut outs from the Codex.

Merrill tends to get lost in Kirkwall frequently, a matter that doesn't seem to be solving itself through time or familiarity with the city. On seperate occasions, she has accidentally found herself in the Viscount's bathing room, the Chantry airing cupboard, and in the middle of a dog racing track in Darktown.

Merrill eventually moved into Hawke's mansion in Hightown, and not as a servent, but as a partner. Much to the horror of the neighbors. She further scandalized the neighborhood by wandering around barefoot, picking the flowers out of other peoples gardens, and cooing cheerfully at their attack dogs. Several angry letters have since been sent to the Champion and the seneschal.

Scandalized, indeed.
