I wish act 3 had a little more romance content. Although I like how in the end, Varric says that the only person who stayed with Hawke was the person you romanced. (Being Merrill for me of course) Good thing too, seeing as she really doesnt have anywhere to go after what happened with her clan.

Yeah.

This is why I can't see me romancing anyone else in the game really. It's like out of everyone Merrill is the one person with no where to go no matter what. I mean even if her clan lives they want nothing to do with her. So at least in my own cannon I find her being with Hawke to be pretty appropriate.

And yeah I do agree with you. I was hoping there'd be more romance content in Act III. Oh well I guess.

i dunno how about rest of you my impression of meeting Merrill [and spanning later trough the game] that without Hawke's love she would certainly die [maybe not during "core" of DA2] but later-that's granted i think
so i personally think that Hawke <=> Merrill relationship is 2 way one as symbol i've used -Merrill has support in Hawke and Hawke...well knows he's not one man army and his mental condition would just crumble to dust so to say after all those years of bloodshed without Merrill to support him mentally and...physically*
*side note: i wonder how elf-human hybrid baby would look & behave like? [like human with elfy ears and with mixed personality of Merrill and Hawke at once? this is so LOL i can't imagine it:P] sorry if i'm going too far out in the future:P

Probably like Fenyrial but with black hair. There aren't half elves in the DA setting. A child born of an elf, and a human ends up being a human.

David Gaider did say that he's been tweeking that slightly over time though. Basically they'll still be born technically human but have some elven characteristics.

What do you mean hes tweeking it?

I did notice that Fenyrial did have a face that almost looked sorta elven.

Well in Dragon Age Origins Gaider stated that they'd be 100% human.

But later in a post he admitted that he was changing it a little so that half elves would reflect their roots a bit more. In turn looking more Elven physically. And if say this off spring of a human and elf mated with another elf then that child in turn would still technically be human but look even more elven.

There's still that wall though obviously. Which is why so many Elves detest others of their kind getting into a relationship with a human. Because no matter what if a child is born that's technically another taken away from what could have been the elf population.

Basically no matter what some of the Elves feel is that something is lost if a elf bares a child with a human. That technically the child isn't truly Elven and that child's offspring never will be either.

This could be fact, or it could be a small amount of racism on the part of the Elves.

My theory is that quite often, the internet brings out that part of some people that can't stand when someone else likes something that they don't like, and it turns their lack of liking into outright venomous hate.  And in other people, it just brings out that juvenile part of them that likes to take a crap on whatever someone else likes.

I'd like to define that group of people as "Internet Tough Guys".

Anyway, I haven't finished the game yet but... Is your LI the only one who stays with you?
Not that it's something new... The same thing happened in DAO.

Gotta agree with that.

I cannot bear (hmmm... perhaps overexaggerated?) to see Merrill alone, with nowhere to go. And I don't think that Varric would keep on helping her when she'd get lost in Lowtown.

...Okay, perhaps I can. Alot, in fact. Yes, I'm evil that way. Can't help it, sorry. Tell that to the demon inside me. ^_^

I have actually romanced her twice though the second time was an accident.  I was flirting with Anders and Fenris with my female mage. I was being very supportive of Merrill and her quest. When the option to flirt came up I just did and then start of act 3 she shows up at the estate and I couldn't turn her down.

So my male warrior had a rivalry romance and my female mage has a friendship romance.  I had seen it posted she kisses you in the Gallows before the climax. That didn't happen for my warrior hope it does for my mage

Ohhh. When did Gaider say this?

And yeah, thats why Merrill is worried about being with Hawke. Although at that point, who cares. The clan will hate you regardless, so do what you want.

When do you get a flirt option during her personal quest?

i think that the intention was to say that refusal of giving Merrill eluvian-fix-o-tool just aborts the romance
EDIT: side note: 2 weeks form release of DA2 haven't passed and i already hunger for some DLC that would allow us to go deeper into Dalish history and ofc deepen our relationship with Merril:) [yes i know i should be patient but i just can't be atm:P]

I ended up romancing Merrill completely by accident.

I had been the nice elderly sibline to her through the story, especially after the death of my own sister. Not once had I flirted with her, or made any attempt at a romance, my friendship was high but I don't think it was at the top. I was going for "We're all friends, not lovers, ending." Then at some point Merrill suddenly burst into my room and was declaring her love.

And by the end of the story me and her dissapeared together.

No, not giving her the carving tool doesn't abort the romance, it apparently locks you into a rivalmance though, even if at 100% friendship, but as of now, the rivalmance is bugged and defaults to friendmance.

Are you blind? No one told you to choose the flirt options in the first place, the heart icon didn't give away that you were going to involve yourself in romantic stuff? Besides you can reject her when she bursts into your house saying all those things with the "broken" heart icon, if it gets THAT hard to understand. Honestly,  I thought this system of icons was for people who don't understand what they're choosing... Well I'm not to insult but really the icon gives it away of what the action is

Here's my favorite cut outs from the Codex.

Merrill tends to get lost in Kirkwall frequently, a matter that doesn't seem to be solving itself through time or familiarity with the city. On seperate occasions, she has accidentally found herself in the Viscount's bathing room, the Chantry airing cupboard, and in the middle of a dog racing track in Darktown.

There was some pretty funny banter between Merrill and Varric about a ball of twine he gave her to help her find her way back to the hovel.

She was giving him back the twine saying she didn't need it anymore. People in the market place were getting mad because they were tripping over it.

Varric told her to keep it, when asked by Merrill what she could use it for, he rattled off a couple of things, including using it to tie up a chicken for cooking. Something just so out of the ordinary, made me stop and go 'huh?' ^_^

Oh, be nice. When you're accusing somebody of not reading, it might help to read their posts: the person said they ever selected a romance dialogue until the scene at the house.

How do you romance Merrill by accident? Hers seemed the most tricky. Everyone else comes on to you. Well, not Fenris, but. . . just. . . Ew.

Has anyone else noticed that Merrill's personality is basically identical to Tali's?

Merrill is not sarcastic like Tali is. Compare banter between the two (such as Garrus and Tali in the same party and how they interract with eachother.) To add to this, both handle dire situations in a very different way.

Okay, so I forced myself to build up rivalry with Merrill and made+uploaded a video of the rivalmance. There are also the two scenes leading up to it.

Rivalmance

I find it strange that in the rivalmance Hawke says 'I love you'....but not when you have full friendship - then it's about scandalysing the neighbours. What do you think?
