I do love Merrills big green eyes.

They're so pretty. I want to pluck them out and string them on a necklace.

You wouldn't get close enough to her to pluck them out!

On a side note, where have I heard that from?

My PC seemed to get plenty close to Merrill.

Isabela says it.

If you tried to touch ma vhenan's eyes Robert Hawke would lock you in an eternal crushing prison!

On a serious note though, in terms of computer generated eyes, they are near the top of the list for best of all time!

Another paralell she has with Luna appears to be that she slips little pearls of wisdom here and there that shows you just how smart she may be.

Such as:

Merrill: You really believe don't you?

Anders: What are you talking about?

Merrill: Believing. You do I can tell, in freedom, in mages, in good spirits and bad templars. With more fire than the sun.

Anders: And your point is?

Merrill: I miss it sometimes, things being certain.

Anders: Some things are Certain.

Merrill: Not anymore.

And

Merrill: Are you alright?

Anders: I nearly killed an innocent girl. How could I be alright?

Merrill: I'm sorry.

Anders: You're sorry? For me? This could be you! You could be the next monster threatening helpless girls!

Merrill: Anders... there's no such thing as a good spirit. There never was. All spirits are dangerous. I understood that. I'm sorry you didn't.

And lastly

Anders: Do Dalish honestly not recognize the difference between demons and beneficial spirits?

Merrill: We've never thought of the Fade as the home of our gods. It is another realm. Another people's home, no different or more foreign than, say, Orzammar.

Anders: But have you ever studied the different types of demons? They break down very clearly into different sins.

Merrill: Spirits differ from each other. Just as you, and Hawke, and Isabella are all human. More or less.

I think that's a bit disconcerting coming from your uncle, lol.

He's the dirty old uncle so it fits.

Rival romance all the way. I don't want her still being with that mirror. The romance also feels more real.

Is there anyway to get her to smash it in a friendship romance?

She was probably never able to really get the mirror working again for its original purpose. The pride demon was getting her to reconstruct it as a gateway for it to leave the Fade.

Since Marethari took the demon inside herself, the demon was unable to use the completed mirror. With the demon gone, the mirror is worthless.

I might have been funny if they would show her dragging out into the alienage and tossing it into the sea. :D

When you visit him in act 3 just make sure you talk to him a few times he mentions it eventually.

I always thought the mirror was a Tevinter relic. At least thats what Duncan said in DAO.

It's possible that the Tevinter's would have stolen the idea of the Magical mirror from the Ancient Elves.
Which would explain in part why a human like Duncan might know about it.

She ends up living with Hawke regardless of whether or not you pursue the rivalry path. Only difference is that he's supportive in her efforts to rebuild the mirror in one, and tries to get her to give it up as a lost cause in the other.

I see.
I kind of wish we got a scene of Hawke's neighbors complaining about her.
Hawke the unleashes a verbal ass kicking of Nutellic proportions.

In the Dalish story, the mention that the mirror was infected with the Taint, which is why the Dalish PC became a Grey Warden. Duncan shattered the mirror, but Merrill attempted to put it back together after cleansing the Taint from it.

My guess is that the mirror lost its original power a long time ago, and the Darkspawn somehow corrupted it - or maybe the counterpart to this mirror was in the Darkspawn realm for them to have taken Tamlen?

Either way you slice it, the mirror probably could not be recovered to its original purpose, but the pride demon took advantage of Merrill's desire to fix it for its own purposes.

Yeah the whole "I'm going to fix this mirror because a demon is helping me" idea is just not going to end well.
But I can't bring myself to be mean to her.

The mirror is of elvish make, not human. The Tevinters tried to use them but failed.

It's also a portal to some realm beyond even the Fade, according to Morrigan.

I imagine something else can come out of it. Just not that demon.

It was stuff like this that made me trust her far more than Anders or Fenris or any of the ones that just slammed her at every turn for her decisions.  She seemed willing to look at something without a knee jerk reaciton.  Though I know some that have taken this for arrogance on her part.

Friendship wise, help people and mages. Then support her ideas.

Rivalry: Don't agree with her, and don't give her what she wants. And betray mages.

I really really like to kill the mages and templars...
Does that make my Hawke a bad person...aside from the whole blood mage thing.....

are we suppose to be getting points when we first visit her in the alienage, and the 2nd time we visit when she say she saw some1 getting mugged?
I tried all combinations of speech but I'm getting 0 points. no friendship, no rivalry.

I believe you get friendship/rivarly the first time but not the second time.
The easiest way to get approval is to 1) kill the magistrates son, 2) agree to help find Macha's brother, 3) help the mages escape, 4, be flirty, and 5) be cautiously supportive.
I had her at 95 friendship by the start of act 2.
Also once you get a companion's friendship/rivarly score to 100 it won't change no matter what you do.
