Until I know more, I'm expecting a little girl trying to boss me around. Cute, but bossy.
But then I'd want to mock her angryface. Not sure if game would allow that.
Merril: We must protect the elves!
Hawke: That's adorable.
Merril: Too long have we suffered under the tyranny of you flat ears!
Hawke: Awwww.
Merril: You stupid shem, *****. I'm talking revolution here! Overthrowing the humanarcy! Fire and bloodshed in the streets. *shakes tiny fist in rage*
Hawke: [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie] *pets*
.................
You have forever ruined my DA2 playthrough.
If Merrill has a decent VA, she is a sureshot for my party. Of course, no fighty-wighty with the bad templars for her [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie].
I WILL PROTECT YOU MERRILL!! *BAMF MODE*

I admit, I cringed a little at the pile-on of look at the little elf, isn't she cute.
But, the fact that Mary wrote her is a bright spot on the horizon. I'll just repeat the mantra to myself: She's Sten-Loghain elf.. she's Sten-Loghain elf.. she's Sten-Loghain elf...
Not that I want to see that morph. LOL
Hawke: "So Merril, tell me about the Dalish"
Merrill: "No."

The larger eyes and flatter face/nose is a pretty big difference too. Nevermind that she apparently got different tatoos.
I think part of it is that the staff she has looks enormous too; which combined with her non existant shoulders and really long neck, makes her seem dwarf sized.
The linebacker shoulders were never a good thing. I don't see why they would need to change the tatoos. Not that it matters, given how much of an irrelevant particular detail the specific tatoo is, but still.

(Then again, I loved Mary Kirby´s DA:O characters, so I don't have any worries on this one)

She looks like she's gonna be the Tail of DA2. Cute some what young female, that will gain a ton of fanboys.
Don´t think she´ll get even close to Tali. She is barely in one Origin, and we know her face, which is Tali´s big selling point. Can´t help thinking unmasked Tali would lose many fans.
Maybe is that screenshot, but she looks indeed early teens. . With that and the bigger ears, she reminds me of the way Deedrit was described in the first Lodoss War book (minus breast size, but devs say she that´s angle). Too childlike.

Alright I'm having a bit of fun obviously. I imagined my female elf as a tribal, lithe, blonde, badass blade-wielding sort, not what I see in Merrill. But she is cute.
Sexiest elven chica EVER:

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see more of her character, but at the moment she's a welcome addition to my party

If she turns out not to be a Hawke LI, it would be so epic if she was a Varric LI.
Hawke: My my Merrill, what lovely eyes you have.
Merrill: Oh, thanks. That's very nice of you.
Varric: Oi Hawke. I see you've met my woman. *slaps Merrill's rear*
Merrill: *chuckles*
Hawke: Gorram.

I see it, but very vaguely. It's probably just the fact that they're both petite brunettes.

Can anyone give me a summation of Merrill's personality? I can't remember the Dalish origin very well.
In the origin, she comes off (to me) as being serious and a bit stern (like I said before, kind of big sister playing at being mom) which fits with her role as Keeper's First. She's also very curious about the ruins you're in, wishes that she had more time to study them, but understands the mission at hand. She's also very polite to Duncan.
Now, granted all of this is in a time period where the PC nearly died, Tamlen might be dead, and the no. 1 priority is finding him, making sure you don't die, and dealing with darkspawn that suddenly turned up and are a danger to the clan. So that's one very serious situation that you get to know her in. And obviously no time to be "omg so cute" at all.
I'm just hoping for a good balance of those things, so that's it definitely Merrill when we see her, but in a rich way with lots of personality. If that happens, then I'll (probably) be really happy!
Maybe she's the kind of person who grow very focused when on a mission, the truth is that we really don't see much of her personality in the dalish origin (my favorite btw), all we see is that she is more interested in ancient elven lore than the average elf, is impatient when on a mission and has some sociable skills, she reminds me of my human noble warden

Once I got her blown up and unmuted a bit, I realized I can't really complain about her appearance. My Dalish ( though not my city elf I don't think ) had the big ears.

I eventually added hair that covered the ears (after Redcliffe) but let the tips show through, but originally they were massive and got much HarHar, WOW comparisons on the forums, which I expected. lol
And, as much as I hate to say it, the look that I *personally* would have loved to have seen for the Dalish is much like Iorweth in Witcher2.
I saw the CGI for him and was simply blown away. I called my husband in the room and said " HEY! Doesn't he look Dalish? " He rolled his eyes and walked away. lol I still think he looks Dalish. My point?? We all have our own ideas of what certain races will look like, and Bioware probably expects not everyone to like their idea, at least at first. Chances are, we grow to accept them as we get swallowed up by the story anyway.

So, what does everyone think? Is Merrill a required party member?
She will be temporarily but you can probably let her go afterwards.

is there no one else who cares little about merrill being a LI, but rather for the new dalish lore she could bring and spells she wield?
Like Velanna had primal and entropy (funny she has fire and grey delisle also voiced avatars Azula firebending prodidgy) which was pretty kool.
You made me picture Merril having some special super powerful blue-fire spells.
Me like it, I loved Azula

Overreacting much? A leetle clipping never killed anyone. Anyway, I'm sure it'll be fixed.

The one negative was on low res her tattoos looked like scars... combined with her pale skin it gave her a very cadaverous look. Seeing the 720p version made her look much better.
I've always been one for petite cute characters (and got the wife to prove it *grin*), so she'll definitely be in my party.

so just because they're writers they are not allowed to be themselves when really your supposed to be fun and imaginative when you write. oh yeah i forgot, they're supposed to be tranquil like all the other writers. *sarcasm*The Lyons wrote...
It reeks of a lack of professionalism, and this is the main reason why people do not take video games seriously as an artful expression. Acting like that in front of your fanbase is just asking for the development of a very toxic relationship with them.

Wasn't trying to throw a temper tantrum; I have eye issues and wanted to make sure it wasn't just me seeing it. As you say, if it's there, it should be fixed by the time the games comes out.shepard_lives wrote...
