Maybe it is a bug but - Merrill is a bit... crazy right?

Merrill "Oh, I would love to see the Fade, you will bring me wont you?"
Hawke "Alright, you can come"
Merrill "Happy happy joy joy"

Merrill rivalry +15.

Bug. I took her to the fade with Isabela and Aveline and she gave me friendship points for it.

Here's another thought: as DA2 ends with Hawke and company essentially running to the hills and fleeing Kirkwall if the mages are sided with. I would assume in this case that Merrill would then have to abandon the mirror while fleeing, as the thing is not exactly conducive to easy transportation. Perhaps with the mirror gone, Merrill's main incentive to continue blood magic will be absent as well.
Just an idea I had.

I've had that idea as well. It'd be interesting to see if she tried to salvage it.

Same here. I took Varric, Aveline and Merrill with me.

Only difference here is that I got +10 rivalry... >_>

I was wondering that too. Especially if the thing is really as heavy as Merrill describes.

I sided with Mages too, and so we took off into the hills dodging Templars. I doubt it'd be easy to wander like that with a 300 pound mirror in tow.

If you go the rivalry path, will she side with you if you go with the Templars?

No, it only works if you're friends.

I believe it actually works both ways.

I am doing the rivalry path in my current run. Still kinda feel bad for not giving her the carving tool, but it has to be done.

well let me put up some observations:
-on Merrill's house loading screen there is "shattering mirror screen"
-in act 3 when Merrill [in friendship love mode ] lives with you in mansion and then you come by and visit her mirror is not bought into attention [well it's gone but that may be bug w/e anyway]
-and in Varric's "end story"  there is something like "...and everyone have left Champion of Kirkwall ...well all except Merrill" i have sided with mages]
thus my conclusion is that after killing Keeper-Demon Merrill realised what mirror was and choose Hawke over the mirror and destroyed it before leaving with Hawke -that is my conclusion:)

I don't know if it has been asked before, but...

As many of you know, Merrill's "A New Path" quest is bugged: the ending scene triggers when you enter her house in Act 3.
Now is there a workaround for this issue? As in, the ending cutscene will trigger at the end instead of before, without having to restart the whole damm game?

Same here. I went in blind for this quest and thought I turned Merrill Tranquil along with someone else who rebelled in the Fade. I redid that quest three times until I convinced myself I didn't. Ya,y lack of foresight!^_^

No, it's bugged. We're waiting for a patch.

It never occurred to me that Merrill and Isabela would be made Tranquil if I killed them in the Fade. It's not like they gave me much of a chance to talk them down and killing two companions for a minor sidequest doesn't make much sense.

I returned to the dalish camp today with Merrill and got a brief interaction with the dalish crafter. She's probably more sarcastic and angry with him than in any other conversation I've seen. I have only done friendship so far.

Speaking of friendship, she's rather easy isn't she? +10 here, +15 there. I think Act of Mercy gets you +25 altogether. I'm trying to work on Isabela rivalry, but she's largely indifferent to things I do. A couple +5 for letting the werewolf go and accepting a job for free.

Rivaling Isabela's hard because you kind of have to avoid having a sense of humor around her and she doesn't have any hardline political beliefs you can pander to- she disapproves of going out of your way to be nice, but not nearly enough. Her rivalry is much more satisfying than her friendship, though, in my opinion.

Topic: Merrill has a very nice accent.

She has a lovely accent. I feel sorry for the rest of her clan with their Irish accents.

Irish accent + Elf = Leprechaun. I expected the Dalish Hunter to make a crack about someone being after his lucky charms. At least Merathari manages to carry the right amount of gravitas.

A patch? Really? I must look into that to make sure it's true...

Anyway, I just sent another scout party through the forums. They returned with a thread containing a link to start Merrill's Act 3 quest:
http://dragonage.wik...Quest_-_Act_III

I must add to it, though, that once you completed the quest On The Loose, there'll be a marker set on your map, under the name "Hawke's Estate (On The Loose)". The quest, however, will stay marked as finished. I haven't found a way on how to remove it, but it shouldn't be that much of a nuisance.

Might be interesting... for those who are interested.

Agreed. I know it was said before release that there would be also be Irish voice actors for the Dalish because they couldn't find enough Welsh people but... Merrill was literally the only one with a Welsh accent.

I'm pretty sure the rivalry is from telling Marethari that you'll make the boy tranquil.

merril does not turn tranquil, she comes back after the quest and cries on you shoulder. You get rivalry with her if you take Anders along at least it happened for me.Posted Image

Yeah, I guess Welsh Voice Actors are hard to come by. But apparently they had an abundance of Irish va's.

I'm pretty sure the +Rivalry points for Merrill in Night Terrors comes from agreeing with Marathari in making Feynriahl tranquil. I've just ran through it there a few times to test it with and without Anders.
