Too bad you can't have a threesome with Isabella and Merrill like we did with Leliana and Isabella in DAO. Otherwise Merrill was just too naive for me. Y'all can have her. I don't see how some say she's "adorable". Really? Like a child with a handgun. I don't feel safe with her in my party.
Yeah, because she's only a good person if she puts out.

Actually quite strange how it seems to be that all blood mages but Merrill are crazy buggersPseudoEthnic wrote...
Merrill may be naive about culture outside of the clan, but she isn't stupid. She may be a blood mage, but she's done nothing wrong and hasn't been corrupted(unlike every other blood mage we run into.)

Gascard Du Puis didn't seem too crazy. I never got to see how crazy he actually was, though, since Varric killed him in the cutscene with him and Quentin.Knight of Dane wrote...

I sort of have to agree. They're not crazy. They're just douchebags.

For some reason, I keep thinking if Isabela ever got a ship again and needed a crew, Merrill would join.MasterSamson88 wrote...

I'm playing a Femhawke now and romancing Isabela. It's tough, though, because Merrill will be foreveralone.jpg in this version of the DA universe.
I sort of picture her getting a bit more street smart over the years spent with Hawke. So if you don't romance her and she ends up alone like everyone else I kind of picture her wandering Thedas like a bad*ss.
But that's just me.

With that in mind, why doesn't Merrill have a healing spell? For some reason, I'd always imagined that Keepers and their Firsts weren't just the advisers and memory of the clan but also took care of healing.
If we were to look at Melathari's 'Keeper' specialization, would it have healing spells?

I get the feeling Merrill still had a few decades to go before she would be ready to lead her Clan in any capacity.

You bet. I got a very kindly worded letter inviting me to let him know if I was ever visiting Minrathous, saying that he would kindly arrange a tour for me. It was lovely.
I reloaded and kept Fenris though, because it was my first playthrough. Alas.

Velanna was a Keeper's First also and I don't remember her having any kind of Keeper-healing abilities outside of giving her Spirit Healer or the creation Healing spells outright.
Of course Velanna didn't have a healing spell in her tree. She was cruel, selfish, and hateful. Why spend the time to learn to help people when you can learn to kill them five different ways?
It's interesting to note that while PC Hawke's specialization takes blood from allies (and even gives you an extra boost for making your allies fall) Merrill's specialization only uses her own blood.
Does this reflect Merrill's own tendency to want no one else to suffer for her?
Or does this say something about human blood mages as opposed to dalish ones?

Velanna also didn't have a tree unique to her. The keeper specialization was the same across all mage characters.
At first, I'd be inclined to say that it was just gameplay balance. But, you might be onto something? It's interesting, and it does make complete sense (either way). I just don't know if it's at the foundation of the spell differences, or if it's something you're applying after-the-fact.

I assume there are gameplay considerations as well, but all the specializations reflect the character to some degree.
Aveline's is called "Guardian." It's not just her combat role; it's an important part of who she is. Anders is the only one with mutually exclusive sustainable. One that heals and one that hurts. I'd say that's a mechanical representation of his dual nature.

I was going to bring up that Awakenings didn't have unique specializations for companions but I figured it didn't matter. Even if it did, Velanna wouldn't bother with a healing spell.

Yes, absolutely. I'm just saying that I'm not sure which comes first. I don't know who designed Aveline's tree, but did he read Mr. Kristjanson's dossier and tailor the tree to it? Or did he draw up the abilities, which were given names and flavor-text to suit after-the-fact?

Now I am tempted to do this. Have some wine with Danarius, and tour Tevinter.

Oh? I guess I need to fully explore her tree.

Wrath of the Elvhen is a mode that damages enemies near her while healing herself. It ticks every four seconds and heals for 1% per tick. I... don't know what the damage coefficient is. And that sounds exactly as dirty as you intended. Don't lie.

I'd sort of like to see a pro human rights Tevinter at some point in the game. Because at this point it seems the Imperium has been turned into a bad guy dispenser.
