I saw in a previous post in this thread that Merrill stays with you regardless of your endgame choice.

No, she'll leave you if you side with the Templars, unless you have her at full friendship and tell her that "Anders tied our hands."

Not sure what she does if you've rivalried her.

I think, based on my cousins report (cause he is an inhuman D*** and treated her like dirt) that she leaves unless its friendship.

Im pretty sure she will stay with you if you get her to full rivalry. I am in a current run where I am rivalmancing her, I'll know for sure tomorrow, but I think she will stay with you if you side with the templars so long as she is fullfriendship/rivalry.

He tends to skim on RPG's so im not 100% on that, maybe she does. I just started a new game to romance her, which I never EVER romance the female options in games. On principle Posted Image

It is so darn hard to be mean to Merrill. As I usually do I play a good male on my 1st play through and a nasty female on my 2nd playthrough. I have aleady softened towards her but have been snarky with most everyone else. I mean heck she comes into my home and tells a story to my dog and then tells him he is a good doggy. It must be the blood magic!

yea, its and RPG, and I do LOVE to immerse myself in a character, make him as authentic to THAT him (or her) as I can. BUUUUUUUT im also Gay, so I really tend to lean towards just the boys. Its mostly becuase I just think it makes that charachter feel more authentic to me personally.

I think I found a way to make Merril's Act 3 cutscenes play in order.
Normally I always had Merrill at 100 friendship by Act 3. On this last playthrough of mine, she was between 50-60 friendship and everything played in order perfectly. A few things to note, however:

I didn't romance her. She was made 100 friendship after the beginning of Act 3, after her cutscene with Varric. Before that, she was between 50-60 friendship. She was never used in this particular game except for her quests. Also, the imported game I was using had only completed Origins, and didn't play with Awakening, Golems, or Witch Hunt. I've redone the Arishok fight, and the beginning - to ending of Act 3 multiple times now and the order of her scenes stays the way it normally would be. I'm not sure if having her full friendship/rivalry before Act 3 messes everything up, and puts stuff out of order or not. It also could be due to me having none of the above DLC on this imported save. Or... I could just be super lucky and the game decided to work for me after beating it three times now. I thought I'd just post what I found, just incase there's something to it.

Every other time it's messed up for me, I had full friendship/rivalry before the end of Act 2.

Edit: Fixed something I forgot to add.

I can pretty much confirm this now, though its a very odd culprit for such a weird and irritating bug

oh well.

You may want to put this in the Act III issues thread in the tech support forum of your choosing. They might like this information if they don't already have it.

I did before even this thread. :D

Right before you go into the Deep Roads, there's a dramatic speech by Bartrand where the camera pans over the assembled group. Merrill's foot apparently itched because she chooses this moment to lift one foot and scratch it by rubbing it against her other leg.

I had Merrill maxed out at 100% rivalry (refused to give her the tool) and sided with the templars - she still stood by me.

Good times. Also, man I missed this thread, can't even think of a reason.

On my most recent playthrough I finally got that line about Merrill swinging from the Chandalier. All the other playthroughs my Hawke said "Sandal." so I was pleasantly surprised it when he said "Merrill". lol

From what I hear If you have Dog activated as one of your Modes he actually counts as a Party Member towards the end of the game for that final Meredith fight and one of your companions gets left out so make sure he is switched off throughout that last section.

She stuck with my Rival Hawke.  No romance going on.

I can't bring myself to rival romance Merrill. It's just to hard. But she destroys the mirror and turns away from demons and blood magic. I don't mind blood magic but I'm worried about her dealings with demons. However after A New Path she does not seem to have much reason to deal with demons anymore...

Also a question: On the friendship path does she get rid of the Eluvian ? Or is it part of the bug that breaks her quest in ACT III?

And thank you Bioware and Mary Kirby for creating her character! She has just taken the first place on my ''Best female characters ever list'' beating April Ryan from TLJ saga :) (While my Hawke is sharing the first place on the ''Best male characters ever list'' with Ezio Auditore da Firenze). Merrill is just so loveable and cute yet very tragic. Eve Myles did amazing job voicing her (Especially the romance scenes: ''There are reasons that it's bad to.. is it warm in here?'' or ''I love you! I probably shouldn't have said that, should I?''.

No she doesn't.

Just don't give her the knife, or whatever she wants. You don't have to be mean. You can spend the whole game as a friend, and still get the rival version by just not giving her what she wants. You have a good reason, and you're doing it because you care and think she's in danger. Hawke will even say this.

I was wondering, is there supposed to be any other... functionality to having Merrill live in my house other than her standing there and saying "I 'm beginning to think Sandal is watching me" when I click her?

She tells you that the Dog should have his own room, and not sleep in their bed.
