From this first glance Merrill she appears quite charming. If Sheryl’s reported squees are any further indication as to how delightful Merrill’s personality truly is she will definitely be the first character I will be picking up. 
 
I intend to revisit the Dallish origin, to garner some semblance of her personality. 
 
With the excitement building around Dragon Age 2, two months seems such a long time to wait.

From what I have seen of Merril, I like alot and I too remember her in my dalish elf run( which yes, ALL  the elves favored the human appearance in DA:O which i didn't like and thought  was rather off putting...the iona situation is certainly a telling with that).  

The closeup of the face from I can tell...is Merril is still dayum cute as hell, it's just that the new design it seems accentuate the good parts about her facial features while removing the ugly...which is...as has been said before the makeup...most noteably the lipstick she wore...

Exotic and cute at the same time. I really like her.

How can you not like her? Well we dont know her character but her look is adorable!
The new art style is fine too. At least they look like an entire other race now (And not like tiny humans)

I guess she is a LI, because Gaider handpicked the VO and I dont think he would do this for some mini sidekick...
(At least I really really hope so :innocent: )

I think that's going too far. If a dev tells me that it's the angle and her costume, I believe them--it's the angle and her costume.

Why would they lie to us? I mean, more people have expressed intense dislike (including myself) over the female human models. They could lie to us about that to shut us up, but they haven't.

I am in the practice of believing in developers when they tell me something.

Merrill didn't have a personality, so I can't imagine why someone would prefer another NPC over her--for all you know, they could essentially have the same personality. Also, Gheyna was a little too quick to trust some random stranger in believing her boyfriend dumped her...and then jump right into his bed.

One issue is the higher fidelity of the other screenshot. I think a trailer screenshot of Merill in DA:O would have smoothed out her features a lot.

Not to mention they got rid of Bethany's insanely huge ahm *assets* in the new dev diary, she appeared for about 2 seconds and she looked a lot better, so if the devs says it's that particular shot and her clothing then I believe them and wouldn't be so quick to judge based on a couple of seconds of content.

It's a little kid's body with Pamela Anderson Bewbs. This may be an anomaly in nature here and there, but come on, every character. This is the outfit the character is going be wearing the entire game, so if the outfit makes the look like that ... well.

And Gehyna - just because I like her Camen slap.

No, I think it's like the Bethany shot. Do a little tweak here and there, put it out to show a change and make up any story they want that it was always there. 25 years in the business world has taught me that little trick many times over.

Gaider said it's a wonky screencap. Her bongos are actually a fair bit smaller.

Given that Merrill, and all companions, have multiple quests, what do you think hers will be? Also, what do you think her rivalry/friendship axis will be?

I imagine she'll want to explore Dalish lore/history (More info on Arlathen?) and help her clan. Perhaps we'll be able to help her establish a permanent Dalish settlement within the Free Marches?

I imagine she'll clash a bit with Aveline as she's probably pro-Templar/Chantry while Merrill has been hunted by the Templars.

Perhaps the friendship path is agreeing that the Dalish need to live separately from humans while the rivalry path is to convince her that the Dalish and humans can live together peacefully.

Why should they prove it? People overreacted when Carver looked odd, they gave a reasonable explanation, turns out he was fine all along. And to take special notice of every perfectionist or paranoid issue some might have is pointless.

I wonder if the people who opposed dwarven romance options because they ares upposedly too short and child-like are the same who dislike Merrill for her youthful appearance?

If you check her shoulder you see that the neck is way too long (half hidden in scarf) - just seems so unnatural. I must repeat myself, but Bioware is teribad at designing female NPC

Russalka, not in my case, loved the dwarf romances. Just seems odd that Merrill, who's face has grown on me, is so disproportoinate, where as the male elf is not? I am not looking at her height but the fact that she is two breasts, a head, and two sticks for arms. But the males are normally proportioned. Maybe it's because I am older, but does this seem normal? Really? Outside of Hollywood and a plastic surgeon's office where do you see this?
