The Maker? The petty, jealous godling who cursed humanity with the Taint because he was too useless and remote to worship? The same deity who buried the Old Gods for possessing more of humanity's love and adoration than he ever would?

Hes more powerful then the Old Gods could have ever been.

The Old Gods tricked humanity, and look what happened. Now they just sleep, waiting for the darkspawn to find them.-_-

So...has anyone written a "steamier" fan fiction?

I find it interesting that there are no stories about Merrill having sex so far. There are about a dozen for 'Bela so far and far more for Fenris and Anders, but I can't find one where Merrill gets some.

Replaying DA2 with a mage. How hard is the rival romance going to be? Most of my tendencies usually earn a LOT of approval from Merril right away (helping mages, etc)

Don't give her the knife-that-fixes-things (<-And we wonder why the elven civilization was wiped out) and destroy the evil tomes in Act 2. Merrill is one of the easier companions when it comes to friendship/rivalry manipulation.

I love it when forumites post in-character.

It's because she's so sweet and innocent, even if she does get some in the game. Don't worry, some depraved people will have all kinds kinky Merrill writings soon... Posted Image

Sorry [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sad.png[/smilie] I wasn't just throwing it out there for Ss & Gs, though. I just can't wrap my head around why she acts one way towards  Merrill and completely contradictorily(is that a word?) with the clan. That particular explanation was grasping at straws, though :(

I... don't know what that was before the auto-censor got to it. But I'd probably have enjoyed it?

Am I the only one that's a bit glad about this? Fanfiction has lately left much to be desired for me. 90% of it tends to be poorly written and come across as... literary masturbaton? Perhaps that's too strong a term.

Of course, there is the decent 10% that makes up for the rest, but I always wonder what the devs think when they see their characters being written by someone else and act in ways that may be OOC.

Bah, but that's just my opinion. And an off topic one at that. Let's get back to Merrill.

I'm going to read that fanfic that the other guy posted and I'll see. Also kind of opposed to having steamy fanfic for certain characters, such as Merrill... then again it can seem so appealing at times.

I'm strongly considering writing a character-driven piece describing the action between Acts and showing how Merrill got used to city life. It'll be the opposite of steamy.

@ Danes: No worries, I tend to watch fanfics and wait for updates
@ Iaius: I'd absolutely adore reading that if you ever do write it! Offering different perspectives is always nice.

That's the 10% I'm talking about.

Here's a thought for you all. Going by party banter, Carver seemed to express a slight interest in Merrill when he was still your party. I'm wondering, if he hadn't contracted the blight in the Deep Roads or run off to the Templars, if there would have been some sort of Love Triangle going between him, Hawke, and Merrill if you pursued a romance with her. I think it would been entertaining to watch.

I think it would have been interesting....especially for a Hawke on the rival path with Merrill given there's a time where Merrill is quite displeased with the elder Hawke.  Though, Carver might have the same opinions regarding the elven tool and the mirror as Hawke does.

It's difficult for me to respond as I suspect my definition of literary masturbation isn't the same as yours. To me, literary masturbation is when a writer uses self-consciously elegant and stylistic prose in a way that obscures or supersedes content (or often lack of content).

It's something I see in people working for their MFAs while fanfiction tends to be plain* in style.

In regards to writing pornography, if you're not getting paid, you ought to be getting off.

Of course, there is the decent 10% that makes up for the rest, but I always wonder what the devs think when they see their characters being written by someone else and act in ways that may be OOC.

I'd be interested in Mary's thoughts on the matter.

Is this really all the fanfiction about Merrill? Ander and Fenris have so much. Also, does anyone have a video of Varric's "Friendly Concern" dialogue about Merrill? I know that you can't normally get this conversation because it's bugged, but you can somehow use the console to activate it.

Heehee, she did...though I'm not sure if this necessarily means she's interested in him...she just might be interested in learning some dirty jokes so she can understand people like Isabela and him better.

But I think there are those that ship Carver/Merrill, so if they want to run with it...

I can understand (as in, comprehend and sympathize with that viewpoint) not wanting steamy fanfic or not wanting it for specific categories (pre-pubescent characters) but not for specific characters. Certainly not characters that the PC can have a romantic and sexual relationship with.

Flirt with Merrill in Act 1 and then move her to rival in Act 2. You don't need to get to rivalry by Act 2 but in Act 2.

Also, regular companion quests are tied to the main questline, not rivalry/friendship status.

Haha, you have a point. And I'm not sure why, but your response made me laugh.

I believe I misused the term. I was struggling to describe my feelings on adult themed fanfiction and that was the first thing to pop into my head. I suppose I agree with Gaider on the subject, at least when it comes to steamier fics. They're just not my cup of tea. Ah well, to each their own.

I guess we'll never know for sure now. :(

Isabela and Fenris hook up if Hawke doesn't pursue a romance with either. I think this was a step in the right direction as companions no longer sulk alone if the PC doesn't go after them. I hope in future games to see Love Triangles that the player might even lose if the wrong decision is made. That'd be cool.

You are fine as you don't have to have a certain rival level in Act 1 to trigger the rival romance in Act 2.

I was 75% on the friend bar by the end of Act 1 and early into Act 2...I didn't give her the tool and the rival points just flooded in after that.
