"Copy-editing" sounds boring usually but in this context it sounds like fun.

You guys are making an awful lot of assumptions about the content of Maria's fiction... not that I think it will be anything short of fascinating, but perhaps for different reasons than anyone who volunteers himself as a "guinea pig"?

You know, I started this thread because I hated what was happening on the Fenris thread at the time and didn't want this to be similar. At the same time, I often worry that my presence is more a hindrance than a benefit.ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...

I'm glad to hear that. Let Merril have the gentler romances that fit her character, Isabela can pick up the slack in the bent nail department (and gladly, I would assume).

I don't think I could have said that any better myself...lol.

No, don't say that!
This thread is really good. I love coming here to discuss the character.
Plus, I do seriously look forward to any fanfic you write involving Merrill.

During the solo Arishok duel, I secretly wished it was Merrill dueling him instead of my Mage Hawke. I probably suck at building a character, though XD
Oddly enough, I have no problems with Anders and always spare him. I actually took Merrill's advice and let him live in order to atone for his mistake. Plus, I think it's practical, given that he adds another mage body in our attempt to save them from being crushed by the Templars. I think Anders means well even if he comes off as a bit hypocritical with his criticism of Merrill.

As far as mage builds go, I do too( and I have he guide...so I know what items n weapons n robes to pick up, or atleast I have an idea)...that's why I frequent the chracters, classes, n builds section alot...alos because they talk about warriors alot there...and that is my favorite class.
The Anders thing, I have to admit is abit of me not liking the retcon they did with his character( please BioWare do NOT retcon any returning characters in DA 3) and the fact that he also ends turning one of my faves(Justice) into something he wasn't in awakening either. I could uderstand where he was coming from...because I tend to believe I would side with the mages for the most part...though that even does make me wanna side with templars in a handful of play throughs as well...but those would be ones where I metagame Bethany dieing in the deep roads( because that is not happening as a mage).

I don't think it's a retcon, given Anders' ideals and what the ideal of justice stands for. Justice isn't always a nice and happy thing and can some times warp into vengeance as a means to achieve its ends.
I feel there is a parallel between Merrill and Anders in that they are willing to sacrifice themselves and sacrifice everything for their 'people', Merrill and the elves...Anders and the mages. Even though they don't see eye to eye, I feel as if their basic goals and idealologies are similar in flavor.

I agree... which is why when the banter between Merrill n Anders after her quest was complete...where Anders was trying to recruit her into his rebellion was kinda funny. It almost seemed to me as if even though he didn't like what she was doing( with the blood magic) he did understand why and saw things from her perspective....though I tend to believe Hawke had alot to do with it as well....probadly why I tended to rival Anders n friend Merrill( though that's because it's more benefical that way from a gameplay standpoint).

i also quite enjoyed her arc...the only thing about her arc, I don't like is how she is treated by some of the companions( particularily Anders....god, this is why I always have and always WILL kill him in act 3...other than the fact that when I don't play a mage(which I'm only doing once as a female), I get Bethany back). I also love the fact that Merrill if built right can be the second strongest character in the game besides Hawke...LOL.
Agreed. After all the hypocritical BS Anders constantly spouts (to everyone, but mostly Merrill) , after he's perfectly OK with selling Fenris back into slavery just cause he doesn't like him, and after the "chantry incident", I simply could not find it in me to leave him alive. I get the feeling that if the real (uncorrupted by Justice) Anders were still somehow there, that's what he would prefer, instead of being a vengeance-twisted husk of himself.
It's absolutely incredible though, how Merrill is about the only one wanting him alive after he constantly bullies her. I wish I could be that forgiving and merciful sometimes, but I think it's still for the best that Anders pay the price for what he did.
