Wince? That bit of blood magic was what drew me to her in the first place. Before that, I was like "oh great, an elf."

Personally Merrill reminds me alot of Valeena, without that chip on her shoulder, still like Merrill more though,

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I figure you guys would know if anything does...

Is there a work-around to the big Act 3 glitch, where you get the scene of Merrill crying over what happened in her quest before you can even get the quest?

This is probs spam but merrill was my favourite LI in any game and im pretty determined to bring her to DA3 and i know others want there LI's carried over to so i made this thread http://social.biowar...1/index/6774861
so we may show our support for the LI's in da and da2 to bring them to the next game

also I do think if there is a patch since i believe merrill is the most popular li they will fix her act 3 glith

Go the Rivalry route. That seems to not trigger her scene bug.

I think we can agree on two things here, since we're all Merrill's appreciators:

1. Whether or not you agree with her blood magic, you gotta wince when she cuts herself. Especially the first time on Sundermount when she cries out. Gets me every time; those wrists look too delicate for constant cutting. Why not use big, scarred Warrior Hawke's 20" wide biceps instead?

I never winced.

2. Merrill would love muffins. Especially blackberry muffins. She says she misses blackberries.

Agreed. She should move to Oregon.

Also, blackberries could totally live in the Free Marches. They're a hardy weed. Would probably choke the **** out of native plant life.

Everything? :P

edit: Well, I suppose not everything. She objected when I handed Fenris over to Danarius. It was the first time we disagreed on something. :P

Yes. You're probably one of the few who agree with her on *everything.*

No, I'm alread on the rival path.   I just started Act 3 and when I tried to go visit Merrill for her initial "say hello" quest, I got the cutscene of her crying and destroying the mirror.  The mirror which she then shows me a minute later when she asks for my help with the demon.  :pinched:  She's at 100% rivalry.  Ah, well.

If your talking about her use of blood magic... I actually do agree with her... I gave my reasons for why I friend a couple pages back( mostly for gameplay reasons...especially when playing above the normal difficulty, but also because when I do play as mage(which I'm only doing once)...I plan on being a blood mage myself...which would in turn make me a hyocrite).

I was less than 50% into Rivalry and just boom! Did not get her usual Act 3 scene bug. It was the first time the Eluvian persisted in the background of her bedroom for me since it usually disappears when that bug triggers and I never see it again. So I usually find her staring and talking about the nothing in the corner lol

Oh, I don't just mean blood magic and demons. I also mean her insistence on the value of history: our past determines where we'll go and we forget it at our peril. Without it, we lose ourselves. Everything she says tracks my mindset perfectly. :P

I did agree with her on that...though I'm more of a " My past doesn't define me...it just defines where I came from, what was...and who I want to be from now on" type of person. :D

Well, her wrist's about two inches wide, and she just takes a good chop at it with a butcher's cleaver. I guess I'm just soft Posted Image

I agree with her that blood magic isn't inherently evil.

I'd like to agree that one can simply refuse deals with a demon and then they're okay, but after that little episode in Feynriel's head... nah. We'll have to disagree on that.

But really, I hope we see some more 'smart' blood mages. I like that she only sees it as a humble tool, and not the key to unlocking ultimate powa or whatever all the evil blood mages do.

As someone with two inch wrists I understand entirely. *cringes* Now I've got the mental image, stupid slender arms.

Merrill's fine. Her health bar is about as long as my warrior's and she loses more health during an average fight than I do.

I imagine she's spraying down every cave, house, and sewer passage we visit with a gallon of her blood. My other party member are probably secretly terrified of her.

Word? Either your Merrill is built like a tank, or your warrior is bulit like a piece of one-ply tissue.

The latter would make for an interesting gameplay experience, and by interesting of course I mean infuriating.

Standard optimization practice with Merrill is to respec her with maker's sigh and drop everything into magic and constitution, then load her up with sustained magics. Willpower is mostly worthless to a blood mage, and she has no willpower requirements to wear any gear, so any points that would have gone into that go into constitution instead.

Ah, reading that it makes quite a bit of sense. I appreciate the post.

I'm sticking to my Merrill dexterity build though.

You can do a similar thing with Hawke as a blood mage as the Merril optimisation "trick". The best mage armour requires something like 35 Willpower, but if you ignore that altogether and get his/her Strength up to 20 (both with actual attribute rises and accessories temporarily equipped, just to get the requirement, that you can then remove afterwards) you can wear either the Blood Dragon Armour or various other pretty good armour.

I know it'll drop off later, but right now, with Rock Armour, I have near to an 80% physical damage resistance with a blood mage Hawke, plus a huge amount of HP and the ability to suck health out of nearby enemies and various other damage resiting buffs running. Go into Spirit Healer too and you get a +100 Health Regeneration passive skill. There's also this apparent Blood Mage Exploit that's mentioned on the Wiki.

This was meant to be my "Isabela romance playthrough" but it's just so cool to see a blood mage Hawke and uber-blood-mage-spec Merrill going around together that it's probably going to be another Merrill oriented one...

A little of both? I've pumped up her con and my warrior his more focused on str than con.

My group has little tank but lots of spank.

The most annoying thing is that for every, single battle, Merrill constantly goes "Do you think they're wearing down? Because I am." There ought to be a way to suppress the low mana comments on a BM.
