Where'd all that fanart go? Just because we can see Merrill in the game, doesn't mean that fanart is unnecessary.
it's pretty large .png so a link rather than direct paste.

Even so, so much has been lost. I dont think they will ever be able to come close to what they once had.Tigerking wrote...

Here's the thing about Merrill.
The Keepers and such want to preserve / restore the Dales.
Merrill wants to preserve / restore Arlathan and Elvhenan.
THAT is the difference between them.
I wonder: why then wouldn't the Keepers want to restore Arlathan? I mean, the Dales seemed alright in the lore, but why would they not shoot for reclaiming all the lost legacies of the elven empire? It could actually make the Dalish the most powerful force on Thedas with just the Eluvians alone.
Seems like Merrill has the right idea, at least on that front.

Maybe so, but I think they should at least try. I mean, just the tiny fragments of Arlathan that are left have immense power, they don't need the whole city to be found.Somebody wrote...

I'm currently working on a 4-page comic that features the DA2 gang, but mostly my mage Hawke and Merrill. I'm hoping to have the first page or two done by the end of the weekend. I'll link it here when it's done.

Other elven characters have been presented, but Merrill is the only Keeper (Well, in all but officiality, I suppose), and the most devoted to restoring the elves. She flat out tells you that "It's a Keeper's (meaning her) job to remember, even the dangerous things."
Honestly, I don't see her coming back for DA3, but that's mainly because I'm feeling very pessimistic about Electroware. I certainly wouldn't be pleased to not see her back by a DA4 or DA5, though there isn't really precedent for there to be that many. We'll see (And hope, I hope).

Looking forward to this. I'm sure I'll mean this more so than I do now when you post it, but keep up the good work.

From the Motivationals thread:

I really enjoy this one for some reason.

What I find interesting is a quote from Sheryl post-Witch Hunt release, where she said that the Tevinter Statue that gives them the info on how to Scry the Eluvian wouldn't be seeing Finn again. And that Sheryl mentioned that its because he'd be wandering around Thedas with Ariane, ya know, adventuring and such. Maybe it ties into the whole Circle Sundering and that Finn, while out and about, can't go back to the Circle in Ferelden since it rebelled?LobselVith8 wrote...
I wonder how Merrill would react to Ariane telling her about the Eluvian in the Dragonebone Wastes, and that it actually worked. Maybe that played a role in Hawke's disappearance?
That could mean we could see Ariane and Finn again in a Future DA game, and we just might have Ariane and Merrill meet up.

I would also suspect that whomever the DA 3 main character is...if not, Hawke...will probadly have Cassandra as the big LI pull in that game...though she does give off to me atleast a MASSIVE Morrigan vibe.
Hmm after so much Merrill I could totally go for the opposite end of the socially awkward loneliness spectrum. Cassandra as an individual completely dedicated to the Chantry to the extent that she has socially atrophied and pushs everyone away in a Morrigan-esque manner. You can already see it in DAII how she is initially very standoffish with Varric but eventually gets friendlier.
But right, Merrill thread: So I played through with a Dalish Warden import and it seems like the Warden is the only elf Merrill refers to as a friend. She initially says she wants to fix the mirror to help her friends (Warden and I guess Tamlen) and says how the Warden apparently is too busy to be her friend anymore. If there are somekind of loose ties between the Warden and Merrill I want that relationship encountered, fixed, or something. One of the options in the epilogue for a Dalish Warden was to return to their clan. Now clearly with DAII, that didn't happen. I'd love have Merrill and who she so aptly calls "The Lost Warden" meet, hug, rekindle friendship, etc.
Why am I reading so much romance into that? It ceratinly seems like they'd make a cute couple.Esbatty wrote...

Edit: Just found the perfect song for Merrill: Green Eyes by Coldplay. Imagine the verses shift perspective between Merrill and Hawke, 1st verse is Merrill, 2nd is Hawke, and then alternating till the song ends. Thank you Pandora.

Merethari says the Eluvian shouldn't be restored because they were hidden for a reason.

@Blackout: Yeah I didn't notice any kind of "crushing" going on between Finn and Ariane until Sheryl mentioned that about him not returning and running off with Ariane. I gotta find that quote.
IIRC, that was what she imagined them as doing. Whether or not that actually does happen remains to be seen (assuming those characters are touched on again).

Again, my Hawke and Merrill. this one was just a late night side thing (very tired right now)

Also, song wise, I could imagine Falling by Florence and the Machine be fitting to Merrill.

Well, I'm sure they want to--but I mean, their actions show that they really can't see past the way things were in the Dales. For good reason, too--centuries of slavery wiped out what little memories there were of the older times. Merrill wants to make the strides, but the others aren't willing to do what it takes.

Awesome. And all I can manage as a "late night side thing" is weightlifting and smacking my head on the lights. Can I pay you wages for daily fanart?

Here's a Merrill-comic I found funny.
Heh! That made me laugh out loud.
Roughing out all the pages before I work on more detail, so here's a WIP from a panel in page 3.

I've only drawn Merrill once before these comics, so hopefully I get the hang of drawing her decently. So far, so good, though.

Believe me, I've been trying to. Graduated with a BFA in December 2009, and I'm still looking for a full-time job. Had a few small commissions and a seasonal retail job, but that's it. Art's not an easy career to break into, especially now.
On a lighter note, glad you're liking it so far!

Ah yes, yes... I believe your recollective faculties are far superior to mine own! But hey at least its in her mind for future installments that Florian Fineas blahblahblah and Ariane are out and about if even for a quick NPC cameo is thrilling to me. Ariane was such a tiny trouble maker, wanting to spook the Mages and Dog lecturing her all the while. Plus she is a friggin' badass little elven exsanguinatrix, I could see her getting along with Merrill considering she wasn't opposed to Finn's use of blood magic to locate the Lights of Arathlan (sp?).Riona45 wrote...
