Like Mary Kirby said, its just tough love. It really depends on what you think is right.
No, I mean the only way I can think of that makes it right is to take the stance that Merrill isn't capable of handling herself. That's what I mean by demeaning.
I suppose I could play a Seb-befriending Chantry zealot, but I think that'd make me sick to my stomach.
The Merrill rivalmance is totally worth it to anyone considering it. It seriously might be my favorite Bioware romance ever. You don't have to be mean to her to do it. It's more like Hawke is just worried about her and taking a more active stance. I don't think it's demeaning to her in any way. There are lots of dialogue options where you show support for her.
FEW! The outfit looks great, and it's a nice looking elf, and all, but... Where's my Merrill?
Ah, okay, you meant that patch. I have to play on a 360, so it didn't help me And I've been wondering, can you only use mods with PC? I couldn't imagine playing Dragon Age on anything less than my flatscreen...

I don't think any of the issues fixed in the patch apply to the XBox 360. You don't have a single core processor. You're not being locked out due to the release date check.

Not killing Anders, the abomination who just murdered an innocent mage girl because she's 'one of them!'

And you're not being told you don't have anything in your floppy drive every time you try to log into the servers.
Wow... Guess I'll have to blow another 60$ on DA2 for PC, unless I get it used. Then again, I could trade in Black Ops, I don't really need a game full of loud noises, overpowered weapons and idiotic shouting.
Somebody wrote... Well the keeper wants you to keep it and not give it to her.
Yeah, but Merrill was the one who invoked the Dalish equipment rental whatsit and Marethari agreed to give it to her if we killed the thingamajig. And then she basically went back on her word and gave it to a third party, after the fact. Poor show, I say, poor show.
For all we know, convicing her to get rid of the Eluvian could be a mistake...
Well the keeper wants you to keep it and not give it to her.
Hawke: And what am I going to do with a magical carving knife? Keeper: You can make soup with it, do repair work on your furniture, sew on a button... Merrill: Jam it into your eye-socket repeatedly. Keeper: ...or make a nice pair of shoes.

Pfft. Elves haven't had cobblers since the days of Arlathan.

Or keeping it could be.
I am still undecided on what I will do for my "canon" run.
That's what I like really, there's no clear answer on what the good thing really is. While destroying the mirror might be the safe route, who knows, maybe studying the mirror could've helped in stopping the incoming abomination invasion, or the sixth blight, or Morrigan's angry return after the Warden stabbed her in WH...

P.S.: I didn't stab Morrigan. :innocent:
You probably laughed while doing it.
I always wondered what happened afterwards to Finn and that Dalish elf that traveled with you.
Yeah, it's a bug. If you are her friend, she keeps the mirror and continues with blood magic. If you are her rival, she destroys it and give up blood magic.
I am almost finished with the game where I rivalmanced Isabela and am considering a rivalry with Merrill but... I am weak. Going to her Keeper to get the knife-that-fixes-mirrors and then going 'snatch!' and not letting her have it is kinda mean.
Mean, and I think the she should continue with the mirror/blood magic. Concepting a character who thinks otherwise will be different, because I can't justify it to myself logically without demeaning poor Merrill.
I don't consider it mean, since the Keeper gave it to you, and allowed you a choice. You didn't just give it to her because she demanded it. Nor was it hers, and you stole it from her pocket. You were allowed to do what you thought was best with it.
As for her friendship, I more of have a problem with her still not getting it. She still doesn't realizing that what she did was not going to work out in the end. Instead, she pretends it was and that it didn't because "people don't want my help" and "I don't need them". She needs to realizes what her pride has cause others to do, what may have happened to her if they didn't care.
This is the friendship version. She just thinks "Oh, it's their fault I couldn't save my people. Why didn't they listen to me!". Yet she doesn't get that it was never going to work. The demon just wanted to use it to possess her. It wasn't going to help her, and thus it wasn't going to save anyone. Nor does making a telephone/mirror that doesn't have another telephone/mirror to call is going to "save the dalish".
And after the Keeper sacrificed herself for Merrill, all she does is "Well, maybe I should stop trying to help them if they don't want it. What a waste."
While in the rival version, she realised it's her fault. She realizes that the only reason the Keeper did what she did was because she loved her, and sacrificed for her. And that it wouldn't have happened if she didn't do what she did. She realizes her actions have consequences.

I really didn't... :crying:

I don't recall if it was Sheryl Chee or Mary Kirby who said that she envisions them both adventuring together.
Yes, they happily eloped and traveled around the lands bettering Thedas. Well, either that or they were eaten by darkspawn and other nasty critters. Probably would have been safest to quit while they were ahead.

If they Keeper hadn't interfered, Merrill would have just found she and the gang would have had to shred the demon, and she'd just happily keep on searching for ways to repair the mirror without any needless martyring on her behalf.
